How many other knitters are out there like Kim and me? It seems like everyone I’ve met after starting to work at our LYS 2 years ago has been a part of a knitting group and watched UA-cam videos all these years. Adding the community aspect of knitting to my life has been this incredible gift. I so appreciate all your time and work you put into this community

My LYS is Apricot Yarn and Supply in San Diego California. Friday night at social knitting I sat with a couple from Seattle. She recommended your vlog to me! I was a solitary knitter before retiring 4 years ago.

Kim, my Scottish Granny said to tell you that wool floats and was used in fisherman’s knits with specific family cables and knots, so if the fisherman was lost at sea, the wool sweater could ID the lost soul. The fisherman’s cables sweater that would float to shore had a family cable and knotty pattern that was created for each fisherman family. Interesting so thought I would share as you mentioned your sweater floating in the lake.

Oh my goodness!!! I love this! Thank you so much for sharing. I just copied and pasted it in my E11 notes so I can remember to mention this in our next video. Is The Maker San Jose a yarn shop? Are you the owner? :) Kim

The “grammar lesson” made me laugh. I always find it jarring when people say “knitted” - and I realized this is probably an English/Canadian usage versus American English. I would never say “knitted” for the past tense whereas I think most Americans (including my husband) would prefer “knitted” as the past tense.

This episode is one of my favorite things. The length of the video is organic and great...it didn't feel long, almost sad when you were done. LOVE your relaxed banter. I appreciate the discussion about the purl stitches. I learned to knit from my grandmother and my mom, and when I started watching knitting videos I realized I was twisting my knit stitches because I was knitting through the back loop...since I was a kid. It was challenging learning to knit right. I have no idea what kind of cast on I do either...I've never seen anyone cast on the way I do. lol

Thanks, ladies, for all the work that goes into your podcasts. Whenever I see a long one, I am just ecstatic! I love your sweater, Kim; and, Jonna, you are the best with your sewing interests added in. I have also loved seeing your Ranunculus sweaters; you've really both inspired me, and I am on my first one now. So glad to see you back, and I LOVE the new logo! Stay well!

I’ve been subscribed and loving watching you two since your first episode. I could watch you chat about knitting all day long! It’s like a great knitting session with my besties. Thanks for having me along! This episode was awesome, as usual and I now have a number of new additions to my Ravelry queue. I love the new logo. It captures you both wonderfully and I can’t wait to order some merch once it’s available.

Thanks got the episode! It’s a Saturday evening and I relaxing in bed knitting and watched this over two hour video! It made for a fun knit night! And I prefer your spontaneity and ease of sharing stories with us. So many lovely projects. I want to knit them all. I had to laugh about the Eastern Purl stitch, Jonna. I have never worried about correcting my purl stitch knitting that I was doing it incorrectly. But I guess more it’s time to make the change because you helped me understand what issues it causes. Darn! Continued success in your knitting adventures.

We do it all the time! Especially when we haven’t seen each other in a while and have a lot to catch up on, so I can totally relate. I really enjoy seeing all your FO’s, WIP’s and purchases too. 1:41:25 - what Kim was saying is so true! I learned knitting with an eastern purl/KTBL combination. At the time, I didn't know this wasn't the standard way of knitting until I started reading patterns that called for KTBL.... I was so confused haha! It's too much work to configure the pattern to my way of knitting, so I eventually just learned to do it the "right" way

I enjoy your videos immensely! I love the “off script” banter. I love that you’ve both read The Tale of Despereaux. I read it to my fourth grade class every year. My all time favorite Kate D’Camillo book is the Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. I recommend it to everyone. One of my other favorite stories is Winter Solstice by Rosamunde Pilcher. It is for adults only because it would bore a poor child to death. I totally agree with Jonna about summer. Thank you for a lovely video.

I woke up thinking about the V-neck on the DD. Some knitters have really deep Vs and others not so much. I wonder if it has to do with row gauge? (Which I haven't checked myself, but will do so now out of curiosity.) Also, pattern size and yarn content (drape). Just things to think about so that you get the garment you want!

The increases on the Anker Summer Shirt by Petiteknit has yarn over increases and you knit them through the back loop on the next round so there are no holes. I think maybe do a tiny swatch to see what yarn overs look like x I’d be interested to see which stitch you knit the yarn overs with. And yes, UA-cam is a great resource for queries such as these. Every podcast gets better! Honestly, so happy to have found you. Kim - LOVE your hair in this one. It really suites you along with your beautiful tan and lovely blue sweater. Jonna, what a stunning dress - you are just beautiful. I love your choices in knits - some I have done, some I will do. Jonna, never say never about wheel spinning. I did and two wheels now sit in my knitting room. My first class was only in July! Lol. I can’t believe that you have John Arbon - That is the exact color I ordered in Fiber from the UK. Can’t wait to get it spun up. My sister and I are flying in from Colorado to Rhinebeck. So excited to meet you in person. 🙌🏻🧶

Thank you so much! We would love to meet you!!! Just look for Kim's purple hair! I think we're going to figure out a time to be in a specific place at Rhinebeck if you don't run into us.
Thank you for your sweet comment. I've heard that the Spinning Guild is a good place to look for a used spinning wheel? Am I getting ahead of myself? I can't wait to give it a try.

24:17 About Kim's knitting 3 pieces at once on one needle.. I am a lazy knitter aswell, and I am not just kniting them at once on one needle, I also knit them as one big piece (remove 2 edges stitshes where seams should be), that way I don't have to sew them together later 😄 and sleeves I always knit in rounds. I'd rather change pattern a bit and re-count my stitches that have to sew them together later 😅😂
35:44 Arne and Carlos used their lake to finish their scarfs this summer (2023) 😄
1:40:08 Eastern Purl is called Grandma's Purl in Eastern Europe (especially is ex-ussr countries) 😄 because back in 80's we were taught to knit by our grandmas and they all purled that way. I use this purl when I know that in next row at that place I have to make ssk, so those 2 stitches are already will be in right position, and I don't need to slip them but just knit together t make this decrease.

Wow! I (Kim) am too lazy to rework a pattern, unless it's stranded color work knitted flat... then I'll definitely steek to KITR. And I love your explanation of Grandma's Purl. So brilliant of you to do it when it will make the knitting easier. ❤️ Kim

I love the books by Amor Towles. I read A Gentleman In Moscow and thoroughly enjoyed it. Then I listened to the audio of Rules of Civility and loved that as well. I am now listening to The Lincoln Highway . I listen to audiobooks while I am knitting.

I was so excited to actually catch a video in time to use a coupon code 😊love my knitting bag which by now holds mohair yarn for my first ranunculus - now I’m only searching for the 2nd yarn to go with it - 🧶I’m a newbie at ranunculus ( I know - late to the game lol) and feel a bit lost - so I’m watching 👀and rewatching any videos where folks share their experience - so enjoy your ramblings- keep it up and happy knitting 🧶

@@KnitTogetherwithKimJonna will do - went to my local yarn shop to pick up the yarn to go with my mohair for the ranunculus- asked the owner if she had made one yet - she said no but has her stash ready - then we both said: I’m just late to the party lol
Now because the Ranunculus is more involved- I also wanted a more mindless piece - so I bought yarn for the ‘weekender light’ but now want some mohair to go with it as I was recommended yarn that was much thinner and my gauges are way off - also watching and rewatching several different tutorials on the tubular cast on - I’m determined to learn it and I’ve started it several times but always lost on the second row - 😳but I’m stubborn and it will work eventually 🤷‍♀️happy knitting 🧶

Another fun podcast! Jonna, It was so interesting to hear about the different ways to purl. I remember reading in Carson Demers’ “Knitting Comfortably” that the eastern purl is a good method for reducing forceful exertion in the hands. I’m definitely going to give it a go after hearing about your success!

Jonna, you inspired me to knit the Salty Air Tee with the Linen Quill yarn and I too am pulling out the scratchy pieces. Do you find that the tee is scratchy or irritable on your skin? And too warm to wear on warm days? I love your podcasts! The longer, the better!

    • @KnitTogetherwithKimJonna
      @KnitTogetherwithKimJonna  2 роки тому +1

Thank you! No, I haven't found the tee to be scratchy except on hot, humid days when I probably shouldn't wear it! Are you sensitive at all to alpaca? Have you blocked/washed it? If so, do it again and use a little hair conditioner. Hope this helps. J

My mom taught me to sew and I made clothes for my stuffed animals. I must've been pretty young, because my mom passed away when I was 7. But I still have those memories! I no longer know how to sew, but I have 2 of her beautiful quilts as keepsakes. Your granddaughters will appreciate these memories with grandma!
