How to Mix in FL Studio 20
Вставка
- Опубліковано 23 січ 2025
- Mixing is an important part of the production process, it can help your song become clear, deep and professional sounding.
Mixing can take a lifetime to perfect, but the basics can be understood very quickly.
I break the process down into 3 simple steps for beginners -
1)Setting the volumes to get a static mix. This helps you start in a strong position and address any issues in the arrangement and songwriting which might be lacking.
2)Cleaning up the sounds so that they are separated and clear.
In this example, I used high pass filters to remove excess low end from sounds that should be more mid/treble focused.
3)Adding artistic effects - In this case, a lot of reverb was used but this is not necessary on a lot of sources. This is where you can use saturation (try fruity waveshaper), delay (Fruity Delay 3) or other artistic effects to add character, life and vibe to your song.
The most important detail is to keep using your ears - not your eyes- to mix. Look after your ears and trust them :)
It's best to mix with monitors so that you can hear the tonal balance and stereo width correctly. I am using headphones for the sake of the video.

'In the mix' has defenitely the BEST mixing tutorials on youtube, well explained and easy to follow :)
The Producer School Thank you very much, I appreciate all the work you put in to help producers too!
yeeaaaa
@Versaro lmaooo hahaha
yeah and he also have better tutorials than you guys ever did.
ouchhh you aint gotta go at them like that
*"If it sounds right, then it is right"* 😍
Yes...that's the point😇
I first watched this video almost a year ago and I have never forgot this
I love that he said that. It seems so obvious, yet it's so easy to forget while mixing.
I always just put my volume almost all the way up Idk maybe it’s just the way I make music it just sounds perfect
15:10 The lines I was waiting to hear since forever. You're the best mentor one could ever have.
I am not a producer. i make music on my phone but one day when i will get a computer i would surely want to do everything i learned from here. Really love your work :)
Worth every penny
That’s what I started on
I hope you got that computer.
Got that computer yet bro?
@@DeliriumXM yess bro
You are very helpful and you don't use advanced words like all the other channels making tutorials on fl studio :)
Razzer No worries, yeah there is no point in over complicating it!
Your tutorials are incredibly fluid and understandable. You speak things in an incredibly humble way that is respectful to everyone's skill level. You truly have something to teach to everyone, regardless of skill level. You have no idea how much help you have been to me and everyone else watching this!
Here I am 4 years later. Thank you for all you do! You are incredible.
I appreciate the support mate!
Michael Wynne - "If it sounds right then it is right."
Golden words🔥
Hey Michael, I just wanna express my lifelong gratitude and respect for You, Your channel and Your videos. They have been the most helpful at the beginning of my journey. Chapeu bas!
Out of all the tutorials I have been watching , "in the mix" videos are just awesome in every way. Explained to the point on what I actually can understand simply , and perfectly.
Can't forget sound design. If you pick the right sounds from the start, a balanced mix will be much easier to achieve.
Infidel Productionz You're absolutely right, that's something I definitely did NOT understand at the start! T
Indeed bro
so true
3x Osc FTW
Why does your name literally mean that you cheat on people in relationships
Thanks a lot for this great tutorial! The "no eyes" idea is simply brilliant! I guess we all mix a lot based on the visual information but there's that great need to trust ears more than eyes for the mixing process. :)
WoW! This man makes me envy nothing on Cubase, Sonar, or Logic-Pro.
I respect your confidence in your work.
Take home message for me: No software is necessarily better than the other. Thanks!!!
FL team, halla back!!!!
mixcraft
holla holla
its not about software its about what software you prefer most importantly
No one could have explained this better. You are, by far, one of the best tutors I've ever seen in the whole history of UA-cam.
Such a clear tutorial. i like how you dont overcomplicate things, unlike a lot of other youtubers that make it sound like rocket science
Came for the tutorial
Stayed for the ASMR
Aaaahhh😒
The best part of using a studio mic
😅😅😅
I owe you so much, Michael! I've been watching, taking notes, and applying all the way from video 1 on this playlist. You've truly provided me with golden info and I just don't know what to say.
Best advise ever. Ear is the greatest judgement about what it sounds like
This video is full of excellent advice! Mixing has always been one of my biggest weaknesses in music production. I started mixing one of my tracks from scratch as I was watching this, and it's sounding surprisingly good! I'm not intimidated by mixing anymore. Thank you! I will definitely check out your other stuff.
Seriously mate, your videos are very efficient, clear and to the point. No fluff, we really see it's about teaching and not about your ego. And as a university student, might I add that it's a quality that too many teachers lack... to a point where I changed a class almost once every semester because I couldn't stand how all the work we had to do was more about validating the professor's point of view than actually learning things.
tldr; I feel enthusiastic and refreshed because of your teaching style.
dude i am so grateful for your tutorials, I have literally learned so much of how to use fl studio from you and i've gotten to the point where i would consider myself competent in the program. Thanks for all your help and keep up the great work!
In the mix is consistent , concise and fluent in music production , my favorite channel !
Hey Micheal I have been watching Tutorial for years. So far I kinda like Your Teaching Skills the Best because you explain details & How & Why & You answer questions ahead of time. You use proper explanatory words that make sense. Your an excellent Instructor & an amazing Music Producer. Please do not stop
Bruh u the most good guy teaching how to mix❤I'm 20 and producing songs and ur videos motivate me every time I watch it so keep doing ur thing fan from Norway🇳🇴❤💯
I've been watching your tutorials for a while... like, over and over again and it has helped me a lot. Thanks, man, I love you. I owe you a couple beers.
You are the only channel I follow for advice that makes sense! I even did a survey for BBC for a free vst and said you were the one I go to for advice on youtube (it was part of the survey questions for a FREE LABS Orchestra VST)
It's happened to me so many times that I just search for a production tutorial on UA-cam, I start watching some random tutorial and half way through I realise, In The Mix would definitely have a tutorial on this topic and I come back to you.
Thanks for the quality content, Michael
What a great video! Keep up the good work; your tutorials work wonders.
By the way, for all those asking, the song is: “For A Moment” by Miavono
Man, You have the best tuts. in the world, its really helping me! Thanks for what are You doing!
This man really know how to give a tutorial, even a noob like me can understand easily
Tired of watching tutorials that werent organize. This is the best and Mike said about mixing using the ears not the eyes. Thanks Mike!😍
Sir.. A huge thanks from my side... People like you are the ones on whose shoulders, the world is sitting.... Thnk u very much sir.... We will meet soon.
Love this channel 😍❤
Awesome tips as always 🙏
Cant wait your new videos, one of the best education chanel on youtube just continue like this you are the KING !
Thanks man, the way you explain stuff just allows me to really understand how everything goes together. These are the only videos I've been watching to learn FL Studio and they have helped me so much!
i was really pissed my sub was not clicked man ive been looking for your videos! You helped me with my whole process. This is the best channel to learn #1 forsure! Thank You Michael good work!
Bro Ur Actually Technically Best ..!!! there Are only Some People who can Teach Perfectly in very Easy Manner and u Do Exactly Same Thankx
This is by far the most beautiful and real song that I have ever heard.
Hahahahaha
I learnt a lot from your tutorials.
I've stopped learning from others ever since i came in touch with "in the mix" tutorials.
Thanks Friend.
I'm grateful.
I wish to be releasing my own personally mixed & mastered songs,
Dont limit yourself brother learn from everyone and everything
I agree with 'The Producer School's' comment, in that you have the Best tutorials on UA-cam in my opinion. You have made something that was somewhat locked to the new user (myself), very accessible and understandable. Thank you very much indeed.
gonna start practicing rn, genuinely really helpful and thorough, i actually understand unlike other tutorials
Thanks for sharing, really loved the before and after clips so that we can hear the difference first!
DJ Shands Beats No worries :) Yeah I hate it when you only hear the before and after about 15 minutes into a video!
Best teacher hands down ✅🌟
Subscribed to the channel for years and today for the first time i have seen an ad before the video
U are a genius... In capital letter ... I SALUTE YOU... You help my processes in my studio with this tutorial.. God bless you
I totally agree on your point on judging with the ears rather than just trusting on some fancy fx. It so true!
Thank you bro for your version of mixing, I am applying it to my project and I can see the difference, oh yes bdw the song is so awesome!! all the best
Your videos have been always helpful for beginners... always love and support from Nepal 🇳🇵
Goodness your voice is so soothing which makes watching these videos 10x better!
Bro your choice of words is amazing, describing things in an excellent way for us to catch
So beautiful! Man, this is a master level production. Beautiful song too
Hey man, I just wanna say thanks so much for this tutorial.
Your first tip about getting the volumes right before adding effects was actually so useful for me, because I was really screwing up my mixes.
After putting that into practice, my mixes are soooo much cleaner, and my bass and kick feel like they are really punching, and everything has way more balance.
I didn't think such a simple tip would so drastically change the way I mix songs.
I went back to a bunch of old projects and practiced leveling, and even with those it changed the sound so much.
Thanks for your knowledge :)
Is there any difference if I do mixing
Using fl studio 😅
@@RB-yw1tt nah because I use FL Studio 12 and this video was really useful for me as well.
This video is way better than other mixing videos
Wow this one video actually helped me a lot I clearly understand what he was saying and how he was doing it. Keep doing what you’re doing love you’re videos
Thank you for this I’ve been pissed trying to figure this out for a while and the ending is super helpful as well love you
love what you do my friend. excellent teacher. im an experienced user and i learn something new with every video.
One of your best video, thank you for taking your time to do this.
I haven't finished watching the video yet but I had to comment.
Thank you a lot for you videos, they're great!
It really helps me figure things out as a beginner
The tips are excellent here
The mixing with eyes and ears ALWAYS gets me! I gotta train myself to just start closing my eyes and really let my ears do the work. I can screw up a good mix just by letting my eyes tell me what it should and shouldn’t sound like.
you are the best teacher and i see that passion in you... thank you so much for this tutorial
Now i know why all my music i have produced so far sounds like trash after hours of struggling. Thank you so much man !!!!!!! ❤❤
This guy is good at this and he is so humble ✊Respect to you man...keep up the good work man
Your videos have changed the way I play and produce music thank you! I'm very very appreciative of your knowledge makes me very inspired.
Another great tutorial video! Keep em' comin' :)
Seriously fuckin well made tutorials. Thank you so much man, you give exactly the information I need and not a bunch of extra bs. 10/10 channel
wow this was pure gold. Thanks man, this was even relaxing.
this helped me alot! thank you so much!
When i need to check something regarding mixing i always end up here! Great Channel
I try to keep up but this dude's voice always puts me in a trance
You are my teacher! Thank you so much!
Missing the more advanced vids ... it would be great of u if u make tutorials about sound design. I mean like using Serum and Sytrus. Please think about it and thank you.
Yeah me too! I wanted to make the basics series all together if you know what I mean? I have a few really cool (I hope so) video ideas on the way including sound design with saturation, guitar recording and mixing and a new remix contest where we are giving away all the stems not just the vocals :)
In The Mix will be waiting for them ... and again thanks for the brief and to the point tutorials ... you’re a great person ... following u from Egypt ... keep it up !
@@azzazymusic You got what you wanted. Thanks to you I don't have to wait
The best tutorial channel ❤️ love from india🇮🇳
almost 3 years in im just starting to understand mixing and mastering 😅 awesome tutorial thanks as always Michael
Excellent work my man. I knew a few of the topics you touched upon but you've made it very simple to understand and provided great tips. Thanks.
Nice pfp bro
thanks my one and only best teacher
These videos are absolute gold
Saving this one. I finally got passed the point of being scared to make decisions, now I’m making decisions without applying logic to a certain degree. Also, my ears are a little deceptive lol but it may be because I lost sight of my road map applying to much at one time. What I got from this is that thinking things through while understanding where you are in your work flow can enhance the experience of a track.
Love your channel bro!! And your voice is soothing to the ear. ( no homo).
Best teacher on youtube.
I'm having trouble getting my tracks sounding loud. When I master it it's still not as loud as my reference tracks
same
This is kinda late but try gainstaging. Mix it at low levels then when you master it just use maximus to kinda get it sound louder
Chiino love u thanks bro
use maximus with clear master preset. it boosts your music and doesn't change the character of your song at all.
first time watching this video i didn't understand shit but going through fl studio for myself and having some struggles and coming back to this it helps a whole lot
You're the best. Thank you, for the free knowledge.🙌
Really the best mix video i found in youtube
Broo thank you. you are saving producers now :D
Brilliant tutorial, very clear and concise, really helped me !
Thank you for the video tutorial. These are always tremendously helpful:)
Abraham Garza Thank you very much, I'm happy to help :)
4:20 sounds like "too many eThots"

The best, definitely the best fl tutorial channel.
Your videos really help man, thank you!
your videos are awesome, helped me a lot to get started. SUBSCRIBED
Your projects always look neat and tidy! :)
"Let your ears guide you" is 100% the best rule of music creation.
