@@miamidolphinsfan Ozzie Nelson and His Orchestra....NICE!!! I never knew he was a bandleader!! Just like Jackie Gleason...never knew till some yrs ago that he was, too. And his voice!! ❤ Beautiful! Thank you! 💯❤
We can all agree that "Mama" Cass Elliot was a woman of great talent with a voice of an Angel. We are lucky that she entered the music scene when she did because if she tried now where people are judged by physical appearance and NOT talent - she never would have made through the door and the world would have been deprived of a truly great singer.
She did Solo Work, and appeared on alot of Variety Shows working with everyone from Tom Jones, Johnny Cash and John Denver. She attended The Wedding of her Former Bandmate John Phillips at A Chinese Food Restaurant in Downtown LA. She was also in an Episode of Scooby Do as "Cass" and performed at The Palladium a popular UK Theater. Sadly she died of a Heart Attack in 1974. Her Daughter Owen Vanessa Elliott almost became part of Wilson Phillips. Her real name is Naomi Cohen.
Cass had the voice and talent which blew most others of the era out of the water! But allowed others opinions to dictate her attitude and choices. Later in her carreer began to realize just how magical her voice and talent truly was.
These are nice, but my all-time favorite is "California Dreamin". I always loved watching Cass (rhymes with class) dance during their TV performances of that song, and so did my mom. Cass would just get into the music and you could tell. I was very young even during the first reruns of them on some shows, but I fell in love with that song.
Remember hearing these songs and others like these on AM radio. It took talent back then. Such simpler times when I was young in the late 60s and early 70s. Miss those days. Thank you
Mama Cass did release some solo music after The Mama's & Papa's broke up. Mama Cass was enamored with Denny and Michelle & John were together (married, I believe), but infidelities broke them up. John & Michelle's daughter, Mackenzie Phillips, starred in the 70's sitcom One Day At A Time. It's always good to watch your reviews, Miss India.
Welcome to the 60s.... the mamas & papas, the righteous bros,, the supremes, the temptations, the beach boys, the beatles, simon and garfunkel, ray charles, neil diamond... the list is almost endless
I saw an interview with Denny Doherty years after the group was no more. One of the things he said was that the record company didn't give them all the royalties they were due. When company was bought an audit by the purchasing company found this. This was after the group was no more. When it was found they were given the royalties. Denny said it was actually fortunate because they would have wasted it on drugs.
I guess Im randomly asking but does any of you know of a method to log back into an instagram account? I somehow lost my account password. I would appreciate any tricks you can give me
Hi India! Love your name. I happily came upon your videos by chance and they are so enjoyable to watch. I always feel so good seeing them. They are upbeat and positive like u! Please keep them coming.
I noticed that someone had already commented on the Wilson Phillips connection but actually Michelle and John (the blonde and the dude with the hat) were the parents of one of the group, Chynna Phillips, and Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, was father to the other two, Carnie and Wendy. Always loved Mama Cass... not only could she sing, but man she had some MOVES... I love watching the video for "California Dreaming"... and watching the differences in the way Michelle and Cass moved.
Cass was such a fantastic singer and performer, it's sad to think that in this day and age she wouldn't even get a look in with a record company... Talent was the real winner back in the day, not plastic...
This band was sooo perfect. Each individual's talent and drive, coupled with John's perfectionism made history. What we heard here was not live. It was the studio track. They may have sang along for the video, then over-dubbed the studio version for a slick tv-show production. Check out "I Saw Her Again Last Night." Denny and Michelle were having an affair. John wrote a song about it and made the band sing it to stardom. And all the while, Cass was in unrequited love with Denny! Mind you, Michelle was just 15 when she stole John from his then-wife. It was not long before John was "California Dreamin'" singing "If I didn't tell her/ I could leave today." Wow. I know all bands have drama. But this band had an absolute soap opera! Even so - I love the music! Thank you, India, for doing this reaction vid!
the TIMES were turbulent, with the war, social upheaval, minority awareness, etc. Changes going on in the 60's/70's were a huge societal movement. The group had their issues, and it was sometimes affected by all of the important issues of the day. What a time it was!! 🎵🎶🎶🎸🎸🥁🥁📻📻
I like the song I'll Be Your Mirror by the Velvet Underground. The first time I heard it I couldn't stop crying. Nico had such a beautiful voice. I like singing this song when I feel like I'm worthless and it gives me comfort.
Cass did not live too long, after that; she died of a heart attack in the mid-1970s. She did not choke to death, eating a blah blah blah [ I won't say what it was erroneously alleged].

Glad you like the "Mamas & Papas" they were such unique group that "Ed Sullivan" loved them above all the other groups of that period from publications made about Ed Sullivan, he felt he their music he could relate to them.
The Shirelles, in 1959, made this song a hit, #83 on the charts. Their re-released version in 1961 hit #3 on the charts. The Mamas and Papas released their version in 1967. Being a child of the 60s, I LOVE both groups. When you get a chance, do your self a huge favor and listen to The Shirelles version.
I didn't know who the mama's and the papa's were until after seeing Michelle Phillips on the tv show Knots Landing I had no idea she could sing at all I had only ever known her as Paige Mathieson's mother on the show. It would be years after that I would hear California dreaming on a movie and looked up the song that I discovered that she was the same woman from knots landing.
It was 1974 and Cass was ecstatic that she was going to London to play The Palladium. Though it has been widely speculated that Elliot retired for the evening following a telephone conversation with Michelle Phillips, Debbie Reynolds claimed in her 2013 book Unsinkable: A Memoir that she and her children, Carrie Fisher and Todd Fisher, saw Elliot at a party that night at the London home of Mick Jagger. Reynolds noted that Elliot was alone when she left. That night, Elliot, age 32, died in her sleep at the London flat where she was staying. According to forensic pathologist Keith Simpson, who conducted her autopsy, her death was due to heart failure. A drug screen that was part of the forensic autopsy revealed there were no drugs in her system.
Cass (rhymes with pass BTW) Elliott had a magnificent voice! She could belt out anything! You should check out the studio versions of both songs . . . you'll see why we all fell in love with both The Mamss & The Papas and Cass Elliott, in particular! Love ya, India! Keep doin' what you're doin'!
Hi India. Yup, after the Mamas & Papas broke up (because the very pretty singer in the group Michelle Philips who was married to the very tall John Phillips who started the group, was having an affair with Denny the other male singers in the group, and Cass was in love with Denny ouch!), Cass Elliot (pronounced like sass) went on to have a very successful solo career.
I heard they broke up because John Phillips (great song writer and song arranger, but kind of an asshole) insulted Cass about her weight one to many times, and she finally got pissed and left. Without Cass, they just weren't the same, and they broke up.
That's not why they broke up, though I'm sure it didn't help the group dynamic. After the affair, the band fired Michelle and replaced her, but the fans were not happy and demanded that Michelle return. She did, and the new singer was let go with a lump sum payment. The group released 2 more successful studio albums. Before their fourth (and not so successful) album was released 3 years later, the situation had deteriorated even more. Cass had left the group because of John Phillips, but she came back to record her parts on the album. The group officially broke up soon after.
Cass was such a tragic loss. One of Americas greats.
