it does make us feel that we are just plain graphic designers than be planners and architects where the feasibility of the project is just ignored. Even when i was in architecture school i could see how fussy people were about the layout of page than the layout of the plan, which is sad. i have seen how some of quite talented architects have been just plained ignored because of that.
+jignesh das False dichotomy. If your school actually did care less about the architecture than the presentation and graphic design, then that's obviously bad. That doesn't mean though that *also* caring about these things, make you "just plain graphic designers". It's a visual (in part) profession and thing you're trying to communicate so obviously it matters. Graphic design is not just some separate profession. It has a purpose; to communicate ideas and stories in a most effective and appealing way. These are things you need in architecture as well, at least when you're doing everything from concept to presentation (outside of school it's just as necessary but you might not be the one responsible for these things if you're working in a larger firm).
thats what you have used through out your explanation "GRAPHIC DESIGNER" and FYI in modern world every section has been subdivided into such categories in oder to provide employment and bettering each work . MNC design companies have graphic designers separate from architect and other such categories. hope i am not offending your profession as GD.
+jignesh das in academy, people communicate via essay/ research papers, and thus your writing skill needs to be good enough so they can understand you. Similarly, architects should have a good visual presentation skill to EXPLAIN their projects fluently. Therefore, I think all architects are required to train their Graphic Design skills for better communication, let alone the actual practices of architecture itself.
@54:20 That’s the best advice that is applicable to not just architects, but to any professional in general. Misspellings and typos are the most embarrassing mistake you can make. I’ve trained my brain to pick up typos in not just portfolios, but just about everything I write as a professional, even emails. Typos are indicative that you produce sloppy and careless work without proofreading it before sending it out or publishing it. It doesn’t take an aficionado in your profession to know that you misspelled something. That’s why it’s so embarrassing.
the guy talking throughout the middle of this presentation drops an "OK?" every 20 seconds I don't know if I can watch this all the way thru it's getting really annoying.
I definitely got left behind with this career path. It seems complex and impractical requiring money for school and to buy all the supplies and software to start. It doesn't reach the people after a point -
"it is a graphic design project".. Im an architect not a graphic designer... I´m not selling how awesome my photoshop skills are. You guys focus way too much on it rather than a good architectural design.
It's a video about architectural portfolio - what do you expect. It's way too idealistic to believe that people can appreciate "good architectural design",without your ability to present it well using graphical design.
You should consider improving the quality of the speech. There is not a clear explanation and the people speaking obviously have no experience in talking in public.

Yup. One of the best portfolio videos I've seen. Very helpful, doesn't shy away from criticism, and covers all the good stuff.

Daniela Sanabria The architectural design should've already been taught by the time everyone's applying for grad school

umm umm umm umm umm ummmm
how someone’s life end up being so boring
Shameful, this video basically gives us to understand that architects only sell images.
or you can show your real projects...
No, this video means that architects seek perfection in every step of their life.
Great Topic but It would be nicer if the woman say less “ehhhh”. Sounds annoying.
