  • The best FREE things to do in Los Angeles' beach cities. Welcome back to my ‘What to do in L.A. for free’ series. In today’s vacation travel guide, we tackle the Los Angeles coast and its Beach Cities.
The coastline in LA county has a lot to offer and it won’t cost you a thing (except parking in some areas!).
    1. Drive the Pacific Coast Highway
This scenic route is considered to be one of the best road trips in America. While in L.A. you can drive a portion of it, or go for the entire 655 miles!
    2. Los Leones Canyon Hike
Arguably one of the most picturesque trails in LA. you will walk through lush vegetation and see spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean.
    3. Getty Villa
The museum was modeled on a Roman villa and its architecture is gorgeous. Inside you will find Greek and Roman art on display, but best of all, marvelous gardens and a view of the ocean.
    4. Will Rogers State beach.
This beach isn't as busy as neighboring beaches in Malibu and Santa Monica, but has all the same sand and ocean you need for a beach day! It’s also where “The Strand” bike path begins -- a 22 miles long scenic bikeway extending all the way to Torrance.
    5. Palisades Park.
Full of greenery and coastal views, the linear park is just over a mile and a half long and the perfect place to walk down towards Santa Monica beach.
    6. Santa Monica Pier
The Ferris wheel is a city icon, plus the pier boasts a full service amusement park, an arcade, plenty of restaurants, bars, and souvenir shops.
    7. Third Street promenade
Santa Monica’s pedestrian mall for those who love to shop.
    8. Bike ride from Santa Monica to Venice Beach (or vice versa).
This is a quintessential LA experience. If you have to rent a bike it will cost you about $10 an hour.
    9. Venice Beach Boardwalk - lined with your typical beach-town surf shops and restaurants and is great for people watching.
    10. Venice Beach Skatepark
    Watch skateboarders do tricks
    11. Muscle beach Venice
This is where Arnold Schwarzenegger used to train. Watch buff people bodybuild their way to glory.
    12. Venice Canals
The man-made canals were created in 1905 and recreate the appearance of Venice, Italy. Perfect for an afternoon stroll.
For more local beach vibes you should hit up Manhattan or Hermosa Beach.
    13. Manhattan Beach
Walk the boardwalk that runs parallel to the ocean where you can scope out extremely nice homes.
    14. Hermosa Beach
Has a great beach-town feel with bars and restaurants on the boardwalk and nearby streets.
    15. Redondo Beach
Although I didn't specifically go over Redondo in the video, it makes up the 3rd of what are considered to be the '3 LA beach cities' and it also has a very local feel!
