AF performance is better in Sony. It is obvious already. BUT the current lines of Lumix S cameras focuses much better than even Fujifilm's flagship non-medium lines, and Lumix's firmware update ACTUALLY improves AF performance unlike Fujifilm. Also with that S9 pricing, it can be Panasonic's most important camera to date, as it can lead more people into the full-frame territory, at a price of a top-line APS-C cameras out there.
The S9 feature with LUT system is interesting because both videos and photos can look similar. Love it, but gotta say, I wish Panasonic had provided a full featured camera in that form factor and charged a higher price.
I own both I love the 24mp pics and 6k video better. Plus the Panasonic LCD is better than the Sony. I did apply the firmware update version 1.2 for the S9 which removed the video record time limits but I get an extra minutes. I also have the Smallrig Grip and Panasonic Wrist Strap for the S9. ZV-E1 has extra ports and features is why it is more expensive. Cheers!
I have a Panasonic S5IIX. I borrowed the Panasonic S9 to test. It's annoying to see the compromises you have to accept. But I have to say the fun factor is high. The size and weight are good and this new app works fantastically and easily with my iPhone. This LUT department is not to be underestimated and speeds up the work process a lot. I bet you'll upload a lot more pictures to social media because it's so quick. Take a picture with the right LUT, quickly on the iPhone via Bluetooth, color grade, social media = 1 minute 😀
Dollar for Dollar that 12mp sensor in the Sony ZV-E1, Sony A7Siii and Sony FX3 STILL REIGNS SUPREME for video. I don't think Sony can even compete with themselves to come up with a movie camera sensor that is better. Those three cameras are so good I see no need to even consider the FX6 or FX9. And believe it or not, some of these dudes are saying they'd rather have a couple FX3s than an ARRI! The entire film THE CREATOR was all shot on the Sony FX3 and it was incredible enough to be shown in IMAX. In very low light (like moon light) the full frame quality of that sensor is absolutely beautiful - especially if you set your iso right. No one can convince me otherwise - The deal you are getting for full frame video with the Sony ZV-E1 is the best (especially if you add that Tilta fan cage). I couldn't possibly fathom choosing that S9 over the ZV-E1. The ZV-E1 is well worth it, the only obstacle is adding the tilta fan cage and keeping it cool for the extended run times.
Ja 12 mp... This means i would never buy such a camera. I want a hybrid camera , sony is to expensive for a video camera only. I want great pictures as well. Lumix is better for me
As an owner of the S9 and I like it, the ZVE1 is not comparable because it is way better than the S9. I only got the S9 because the price was $1400. You cannot beat that. If you pay $2200, you get a very highly specc’d camera you can really swing around.
1.5 x crop on 4/60 and low max recording times kill the S9. ZVE1 is actually a ‘bargain’ for what you get. If shooting in 4/60 the ZVE1 has less crop on it in dynamic than the S9 does with its stabilisation due to ridiculous friken 1.5 crop on that S9 60FPS. That clear image zoom as you say is underrated.
1. IBIS on the ZV E1 is substantially inferior to that on the S9. It sucks. 2. The S9 shoots 6K open gate and 4K supersampled from 6K. Much more detail than the 4K of the ZV ZE1. These are very important differences. But, ZV E1 high speed video is better - 4K, no crop. Less rolling shutter.

Just like its disadvantages - lousy stabilization and less than 4K resolution. Almost no creators shoot clips longer than 15 minutes; that includes the most famous film directors. If you need to shoot with a camera for long takes, you need a tripod anyway, so there is no point getting a compact camera of any brand. These comments seem to come from spec inspectors not videographers. Btw, I shot a lot of videos with the zv e1. I gave up because of its inferior stabilization. And, the best advantage of open gate is in using anamorphic lenses. 422!
There isn't a Panasonic camera on the planet that doesn't do time lapse. They old Lumix G7 from nearly 10 years ago does time lapse and stitches them together
Also, for cameras without EVFs, the display has to be good. The Sony's display is dull, washed out and low resolution vs the sharp, vibrant and bright screen on the S9. The Sony screens are damn near unusable outdoors.
@@neilrocks25it doesn't matter how good if you can't see what your recording. I shot an outdoor event for the first time this weekend on a A7R5. It was a nightmare as the rear screen and EVF are poor in my opinion. Indoors fine, it made me reappraise the A7R5 completely
So, if I wanted that 6k 30 Open Gate, and wanted to spend less than a ZV-E1...what camera would give me that with no record limits, mechanical shutter, EVF, hot shoe, audio monitoring, etc?
Yea, the LUT feature and workflow is a game changer. AN often over used term, but LUMIX Lab is well above the Sony's Creator app and Fuji's apps. The camera is so much fun to use and I have the A6700 for photos (sports), but I'm using the S9 more often for street and occasional vids.

10 bit 420 is NOT a gimmick, you're comparing 8 bit baseline, 420 would give 90% improvement, 422 100%, you will have a hard time seeing the difference if you can at all. 422 is better for green screen, but eyes will have a hard time picking the difference.

Great comparison video! Panny missed the mark for me because I was hoping for a smaller B-cam to my S5ii that could use the same lenses. That record limit kills that for me. That's just for MY use though.
It's unlimited with an atomos ninja. I'm not saying to go out and buy one, but many people who do lots of video already have monitors that record in their kit. I'm just saying

@wheelsupbardown What's the point of compactness for use in a studio taking 30-minute clips? S9 is a high-powered compact camera for going out and shooting nimbly. That does not require clips of multiple minutes. Most creative films/videos consist of very short clips. 15-minute limits are shortcomings for only very specialized video. If that's you, fine.

If you are talking about vlogging - holding a camera, walking and talking - no one does that for 30 straight minutes. The S9 is a compact S5 ii. So it's whole advantage is being smaller and lighter.
Sony is still the King for video. Higher resolution is overrated and extra "sharpness" isn't cinematic. The thing is, is that Sony is still the better choice simply because the ecosystem has way more pros than any other camera manufacturer. I have shot multiple Catholic Ceremonies at 4K 24 FPS and the ZVE1 never overheated nor shown signs of overheating and the record limit was an hour and a half. That to me is so wild. I use Dynamic Active Stabilization if I want to get a handleheld shot at 85mm making it around 100mm. If you're going to walk in a straight line and expect to get some crazy good stabilization handheld, that's literally what a gimbal is for. I personally don't have a need for Open Gate.

It has a 12mp sensor.. i cant use such a low resolution camera for my Pictures. The sony is a overpriced Video only camera and it does not even have open gate and 6k i would never buy such an outdated camera.
The S9 is more for Instagram and TikTok users. After testing the S9 I understand the Concept, and they made it well, cause the new app with the LUT etc

This is the one main reason I want it. Put it on a desk mount with cables coming out the side opposite the screen. See the screen completely unobstructed (even the mic jack is above the screen). Output the HDMI to the Elgato camlink. Plug in power. Boom, no time limits, no obstructions and have a much better setup for streaming, meetings, etc.
You act like the S9 is designed to make short films. At what point are you and others going to realize the target market and stop criticizing it for not being like a cinema camera or a high-end photography camera when that's not what it's intended to be.

Full-frame sensors need larger lenses most of the time.
Sigma has a few.
I got a couple of Sigma i series, they’re pretty compact.
I use Sigma Contemporary Lenses, Cheap, light, good build quality, F2

I don't understand why the S9 has any ports on the same side as the hand grip. That makes zero sense...
That's not a handgrip 😅
They got a lot of flack on the older portable models because the ports would obstruct the articulating screen. That's really my only guess why though
