Most of the reviewers fault the S9 for not having mid and flagship specs. They forgot it was an entry-level full-frame camera. For me, they removed the necessary features. If they removed IBIS, open gate, moved to 8-bit then I would be furious because there are no workaround for those. EVF, grip, hotshoe, recording limit... those are all useless in talking head video which most youtubers do. They mount it somewhere facing them (you dont need EVF and grip then), then they use studio lights (you dont need a hotshoe then), they use external hdmi to record (you can bypass the recording limit then).
Yes I feel this is the point I was getting at. Previously owning a ZV-E10 taught me that alot of the hybrid features of the Lumix S5ii are really nice to have, but I could get almost the same results with a different body as long as I had the same senor and output.
Studiolight, HDMI Recording,… this does not sound like entrylevel and why not the S5ii or something similar than? Where‘s the benefit in this UA-camr usecase provided by the S9?
I’m with you…finally some one who gets this camera … it’s almost as if none of the other reviewers can think outside the box they’ve pit themselves in. My take is it’s a cool, minimalist camera focussed on the future … I’m getting one
You're gonna be a great YT creator, for sure. Well put together, well spoken, video is crispy, presented well. Good luck on all your projects. On a sidenote, S5ii owner and user also, been in the Lumix game since GH4 -> GH5 -> GH6 -> and now the S5ii. For me, having that S9...light / small / compact, is my goal. The little brother to its big brother. Casual. Quick.
I just ordered the Lumix S9 with the 18-40mm kit lens after being disappointed with the video recording capabilities from the Sony Alpha 7C II which I just owned for a few months and barely used. The Sony Alpha 7C II has some terrible image stabilisation when compared to its competition. I am even surprised that Sony can't even closely with what Lumix has to offer. I also needed an everyday travel camera and the Lumix S9 with the 18-40mm fits the bill perfectly. It's less than 700g whilst compared to the Alpha 7C II (with a lens) which can go up to 1Kg. My back and shoulders would be taking me at the end of the day. Great video! I love the colours and the 3:2 aspect ratio!
Sub'd! Great video! I completely agree... and how do you only have 282 subscribers lol. We need more short and to-the-point content like this. I've mostly stayed in the APS-C and MFT space, because I want my setup as small and light as possible for traveling, but the S9 has seriously got me thinking... maybe... MAYBE, I could stuff the S9 and a small prime lens into my 1.6L Alpaca sling (which I did with my GX85 and took it around South America recently)
I see nothing wrong with MFT or s35. Some of the best cameras available are on those systems. As a working professional, FF gives me more flexibility, but it's nothing I couldn't already achieve on my smaller cameras. Sounds like you need the zve10ii or maybe the g9ii!
The thing that's missing is it's $300 less without a lens and the same price as s5ii with kit lens. Pricing makes no sense and this analysis of it being a gateway into the ecosystem would make sense if it was $1000. Shit even $1200. It was meant to compete with fuji x100v that's all it is. It was their attempt at trying to combat fujis inability to keep cameras in stock and enticing consumers with a full frame. For content creators this might be a cool camera but for everyone else it's not.
I hear what you're saying, but that is exactly who they made this camera for: Content Creators. The kit lens (20-60mm f/3.5) is a wonderful option that's around $250 on the used market. And then you have the i-Series primes from sigma which are compact and affordable at around $400 used. I agree it isn't the most affordable full frame camera, but the x100 is super35 not full frame and you can't switch the lenses.
Thanks so much man! Yeah I will be talking lots about the S5ii, and maybe if I can rent the S5 mark i, The Blackmagic Full Frame, and the Sigma FP I will compare them.
This is a great entry level camera for entry and casual shooters. It comes packed with interesting features LUT and 6k Open gate. It is also suitable for short form video creations. If you want t shoot high resolution for longer form videos, then this is not for you. So it is perfect for people making high quality shorts or videos less than 15mins long. Couple this with Panasonic's latest 28-200mm lens, then you have yourself a well rounded camera.
The genius move would have been to keep the EVF and make it more like the Canon R8. That is the best budget full frame camera on the market right now and it's cheaper with better specs...
@CartyMadeThis It's touted as an entry level short form creators camera and a compact full frame travel camera. Having an EVF would make it ideal for the latter. If it had an EVF, and pop up flash, I'd buy it with a 35mm and 50mm prime and take it everywhere.
YAY i like these kinda simple vlogs. Just say what you want and mean, and come from a good place. Thanks for sharing friend! Help... i'm really thinking of pre ordering this sucker. But our local dealers don't get the same pancake lense freebie!! 😢 hahahahaha
I appreciate that! Thanks for watching, I just know alot of people are hating on a camera that could help alot of people create wonderful images. Honestly you;re better off converting an old vintage lens instead of using that f8 Pancake lens from Lumix. The canon FD or Minolta Rokkor series are great options.
i look forward to watching your content. this was a breath of fresh air from the typical reviewer. I am sure with time and experience you might start to sound the same, but i doubt it because you clearly understand market target
Great informative video, congrats. I have a question: how would you compare in a nutshell with the Sony A7C II ? are these comparable in any aspect ? I think the S9 shines more on the video side? Let me know your thoughts...or maybe can do a comparison review.
I tested it out because I already have an S5IIX, just out of interest. I was surprised because it was smaller than expected and the S9 was really fun and the app is very good. I bought it straight away with a Sigma 20mm F2.
I want one just for the FUN factor. My two S5ii's are always rigged up for work, so it's not as fun to just lug them around all heavy throughout my day. (I still do it anyway)
Yeah it's made for people who are in between the spaces that UA-camrs and Professionals occupy. As someone coming from TikTok, the S9 is going to do great on that platform.
The s9 is great for video, not really meant for hybrid shooters. I do video and photo and dealing with the 12bit raw files vs the regular 14bit... Its a big difference. Additionally, I never met anyone who wants to move away from the iphone be willing to spend anything higher than what their iphone costs just for video. The lumix s5ii is around 1900 euros. That's 200 more, so we might as well go for that.
Thank you. Saw/read too much elitist BS on this camera. So happy to see someone look at this camera from the perspective of the market that it seeks to serve.
I think when you take a step back and look at who this camera is for (aka not professionals) then you have alot more fun seeing what it could be for other people. I could use this as my walk around camera, while my S5ii remains my professional use case.
That would be mostly the bigger channels whom think they know it all. They don't and they need to be brought back down to Earth. Those spiting out their elitist BS on this camera, need not apply, but for some reason they are taking this Camera and Panasonic as their Personal Hate Agenda. They are truly exposing themselves for what they truly are. By the way, professionals not that long ago, were using Far Less. Plus some still are.
I feel like the S9 has many features (full frame, VLOG, 10 bit, stabilization, etc.) that a creator would want. The G7 is a great pocket camera, but I personally can't buy anything with 8 bit video anymore
The "dream" camera is the one that you use to create the most with. That makes anything a dream camera. worry less about camera stats and more about creating :)
@@CartyMadeThis yeah, praise brands for camera for 5000 dollars with 3-min 4k, 5-min fhd and 1-min 8k because "it's content creator camera!!!". overheats after 150 min of recording? And priced 400 bucks lower than a ZV-E1 that doesn't have overheats, quickly? pricier, no mechanical shutter, no evf... and then its 12mp, with worse IBIS

@tomCGNpics The one thing the S5II cannot do is become small.
How is it for use as a webcam for streaming? No one has mentioned that...
but a used ZV-E10 and a rokinon 12mm f/2 for streaming. No point in spending more.

Tik tok replies brought me here , subbed 🙏🏾great video
Your tiktoks are changing the game! Can't wait to see what you make this year. especially wiuth the new BM Pixie
Really enjoyed your take on this from the perspective of who this camera was intended for. So refreshing! Great job!
Thank you so much!
what about adding a Finder on the S9
The EVF situation? It's a real shame. I can manage without a viewfinder, but I know many people who can't.

I want a S9 just for the stabilisation - I have a A7R5 but need a second camera. I also would like something a bit less intimidating.
Definitely! One prime with the S9 would be a great video counterpart to your A7r5

they released a software update that lets you record more than 15 mins now.
I will get one to replace my heavy Lumix S1 ( awesome camera )
Yeah I feel like the S9 is great for travel!
I totally think the s9 is the right shape for vlogging. I hate the fact that all we can get are big rigs to vlog.
That is the market it is made for! 1080p vlogging with a super small clean setup
The genius move would have been to keep the EVF and make it more like the Canon R8. That is the best budget full frame camera on the market right now and it's cheaper with better specs...
I mean for that kind of camera, just buy the original lumix s5. This camera is meant to appeal to users who don't need an EVF.

Thank you! I have a few color tutorials uploaded as well if you want to take a look.

YES! They designed it with someone in mind, and I think alot of people are just confused because the S5ii is already so good.

Sigma FP for cinema 12bit stays the best. But for photography it’s a bit lacking for his time outdated.
