Breath taking words, for a breath taking experience. Spitfire pilot, John Gillespie Magee Jr., High Flight. With this sim and a little editing it can be expressed visually. Thank you for your post. Nice landing.

Mmmmmmmm butter. Well there’s every pilots wet dream right there, goddess she’s gorgeous. You can be forgiven a few in flight wobbles She’s a spitfire and that landing made up for it! I have a family connection to the spitfire. My grandad was a pilot in the RAF and flew Hurricanes throughout the war (therefore never acknowledged the spitfire at all!), my gran was a ferry pilot in the WAAF and used to fly aircraft out to the front (mostly the med and North Africa) were the men would fly them in combat. Now she’s flown many types but the one she always talked about was the spitfire. She would wax lyrical about it, said you didn’t fly a spitfire, you strapped it on and flew. She said it really was that good, that close to feeling like you’re flying unaided, but she’d caution new pilots who didn’t respect the spitfire and pushed to hard - well she’d try to kill you. Treat her right, get to know her and she will do anything. My gran was seriously in love with that bird. So you can imagine the arguments about Sputfire vs Hurricane in their house! She also flew a personal fave of mine the Mosquito.
Gran taught me to fly (that was an experience I can tell you - tip don’t ask a damn Spitfire junkie to teach you to fly!!) and arranged for a volunteer position at Duxford as a ferry pilot. I flew a lot of cool stuff but unfortunately became disabled and stuck in a chair a month before going to spitfire school, oh well. Anyway that planes is a true hero of the skies (hurricane too grandad! I said it) and gran was and is my hero
    Great video Rachael

Taught to fly by a spitfire junkie...that’s something you won’t hear much anymore. Sounds like a wonderful pair of grand parents you had! I would love a mosquito to be made for the same . My all time favourite plane as well.

@@stephenbull2026 yeah they were special very special people. Grandad lived to 97 gran 99. Learning to fly from gran was a special treat though at times terrifying lol.

Hands down the best landing of a sim Spitfire I've ever seen! Incredible flying. Love the videos!

Hi Av, great stuff as usual, and a beautiful landing!
A few notes on the startup procedure, firstly, when you put the battery on the way that's done is actually by advancing the throttle, there is a switch underneath the throttle handle which is flicked by the throttle when it's advanced past a certain point. You spotted the fuel control lever that needs to be open, that fuel pressure knob actually doesn't need to be open. This control pressurises the fuel tanks for high altitude flight. If you leave this off the engine will start up and run with no problem at all, but when you climb above..... I think it's about 10-12 thousand feet the engine will experience fuel starvation and cut out. When using the manual wobble pump you'll notice a little light tucked to the right of the fuel quantity gauge and below the radiator tempreture, this light illuminates to show low fuel pressure, you'd operate that wobble pump until that light extinguishes (10 times in this model I believe)
The Primer is actually simulated, it's just tricksy, looks like it doesn't do anything, but if you use your scroll wheel on it you will unscrew the primer cap which unlocks the primer, and then you can prime to your hearts content. You would typically leave this unscrewed during the start so you could pump it a little if required to get the engine to catch, then lock it up again as part of the post start actions. Right before the start attempt you want to go full rich, prop full forward, and crack the throttle (I guess much like any aircraft)
Normally to start you would use two fingers to press and hold the start and boost button simultaneously, but since we only have one mouse cursor they let you get away with a quick press on the start button and holding the boost coil.
Anyways.... I'll put my inner spitfire geek away again :P
I do really like this, and think FlyingIron have done a great job, particularly graphically, though I also get the impression they've made some concessions in the flight model. I may be mistaken, as I've never flown the real aircraft (I WIIIIIIIIIIISH I had!!) but it feels like they've tried to make the flight model easier. Just comparing to spitfires in other sims, I found it not to require anywhere near as much work to keep it in trim, I mean, I can fly it for a full sortie quite happily without touching the rudder trim once, whereas the DCS spitfire tries to kill me if I take my hand off the rudder trim at all! Maybe it's just me, or maybe it's the most accurate flight model we've had yet, it just didn't quite fit with what I was expecting.
I will say though that even if I'm right about the FM, it's still a tonne of fun to fly, and tbh, looking out over that elliptical wing I just can't stop smiling like a giddy school child!

I was caught out with how much you need to pull back on the stick for stable takeoffs & especially landings so that the tail wheel has firm contact to the runway. Otherwise it wanders very easily & gets wing strikes.

Its technically inoperable in game, though turning the fuel ON helps :P Which I forgot, only second time flying it.

I’ve bought the Spitfire on Xbox and love flying it but I just can’t land the dam thing without ending up on the nose or side when stopping. I’m using a controller though. I’m finding all of the tail wheeled planes difficult to stop so I usually fly other stuff. The spitfire does sound fantastic especially when inside view and the propeller slowed down 👌

    Achtung Spitfeur! Dakadakadaka!
The Mk.IX is my favourite mark. It was the first Mark capable of taking on the FW.190, without being at a disadvantage. It was developed as a stop-gap, pending availability of the Mark VIII. It was basically the Mark VC with the more powerful Merlin intended for the Mark VIII. However, I believe that it turned out that the Mark IX was easier and quicker to build than the VIII. So, it became the main production version, while the VIII was generally concentrated overseas in the Mediterranean, SEAC and Far East.
IIRC, the clipped wing versions was designed LF.Mk.9. The L being for low-level.

Prop toruqe will do that, very powerful engine, give it some rudder trip or a bit of pedal to counteract.
