    I’ve done several at this point. Your page has been invaluable to me several times. I found a local place that rebuilds oem start/generators for 125$. Bearings brushes and truing commutators etc. Fun fact, ‘95 Yamaha start generators are integrally mounted with the front motor mount. Not a whole lot of fun in the heat while solo. Again thanks for your content. Helped me out in my golf cart community.

    I'm getting a 92 Club Car DS next week and prepping thanks to your videos. It does run and the owner says it's a coil he may have installed that was the wrong model. Only Coil i see is the ignition coil so hopefully he can point at what he did. Thanks for your videos. Immensely helpful as I have no mechanic background and would be diving into this blind.

    Thanks Kevin great video, even though I've done these jobs before at the club I always pick up a new technique from you, like using the fork to tension the belt, that's a great idea! Thanks again!

      I use the pickle fork because its conveniently placed and it fits, lol. You could use a small flat pry bar or large flat blade screw driver.

  • @kellyx57

    I like the pickle fork idea! It's always hard to find a good angle to pry up if you go in above the exhaust.

    I had a similar problem. First press the pedal and make sure you have 12 VDC on the stud with the white wire. this will check for a bad connection due to copper corrosion in the cable brad

    Kevin i have a 2006 club car precedent gas. It won’t run unless choke it. I can choke it and it takes off and runs ok. Then i can release the choke. But if i stop i have to choke it every time. I’ve cleaned the fuel tank, added new filter, new spark plug, and new fuel pump. The tank was dirty. It is overall running better.

    Hey Kevin, what would cause the fuse to keep popping. If I put a wire from the battery ground to the generator motor the cart works fine but don't have a fuse. The battery doesn't go dead either with a wire hooked with out the fuse. It is a yamaha g16 gas

      I thought about doing an engine swap video, but I really don't have much interest in doing so right now. With the cost of everything at the moment, it's not really feasible for me to invest in something for myself. Maybe in the future though.

      I won't install parts provided by customers. It has to be my parts or I won't work on it. I've had too many problems in the past so I no longer will make exceptions. This gives me control over the source and warranty.

      @@Kevinsgolfcarts I’ve had the pleasure of fixing a formerly reputable repair shops stuff. They were charging people oem like prices for Amazon parts. They failed, naturally. Word got around that I wrench. It’s kept me a bit busy. It’s sometimes hard to explain to folks that I won’t put cheap parts on their cart. Folks just look at Amazon and don’t understand that you get what you pay for. I also don’t do this for money, it’s just something to do when I get done with the day job.

      Seems I'm getting more and more new customers for Clubcars 95- 2008. Oil leaks at crank case near dip stick. Blown head gaskets. Screwed up wiring. Electric carts all day.

    Hey Kevin, what was the voltage prior to thinking it was the voltage regulator? I could not make out what you said over the noise of the motor. I suspect it was over 15v.

    Hey Kevin, how tight do you recommend the starter generator belt be?

    • @Kevinsgolfcarts
      @Kevinsgolfcarts  Рік тому +1

      Typically tight enough to have about a 1/2 inch of deflection.

    Hey Kevin. Love the videos. I have a 2002 ergo txt. Do you know what the voltage output should be for the stater / generator at the battery?

    • @Kevinsgolfcarts
      @Kevinsgolfcarts  Рік тому

      It should be around 14-14.5 volts. Anything over 15 volts or under 13 means the voltage regulator and/or starter/generator is bad. To test the starter/generator, connect the DF terminal from the starter/generator to the Negative side of the battery, the voltage should rise rapidly. You must monitor the voltage at the battery when you do this and not longer than 30 seconds.

    Hey Kevin, can you elaborate what Yamaha has done to "cheapen" their carts? I know you prefer the CC but honestly, I can't buy a cart with a Kohler. I've just had too many bad experiences with Kohler motors in the last 10 years. Now, if they still had the Kawasaki motors, ok. But we know that will never happen again and, hopefully, they don't go back to Subaru motors. Our course has a few of those and what a pain mostly to get parts. We want to stay with gas carts.

    • @Kevinsgolfcarts
      @Kevinsgolfcarts  Рік тому +1

      This could be a video all on its own. Starting with the G29/Drive, they started making the floor pan out of plastic. Its even weaker on the new Drive2. Its hard to strap them down on the trailer because they flex so much. These newer ones with the QuieTech crap are overengineered plastic junk. They have a nice transaxle with independent suspension. I think that's a bit much for a 800lb golf cart. They've added so much plastic junk to cover up and dampen sound, it makes it so much harder and longer to do regular service. I agree with the Club Car and the Kohler engines. Kohler needs to stick to making toilets.

    • @jws3925
      @jws3925 Рік тому

      @@Kevinsgolfcarts LOL!! "Kohler needs to stick to making toilets". That's a classic, Kevin.
      Thanks for the reply. I've had other Yamaha products and they have all performed well but, of course, I am commenting primarily about their motors. I think they make good motors. I definitely want another gas cart so I am in a bit of a pickle. I like the CC frame but cannot purchase a Kohler. I have never been an EZGO fan and pretty much thought of them as a "second tier" cart. That kind of narrows it down to Yamaha...........and, I guess Cushman. There again, Cushman has never been on my radar and I don't know much about them. Dealer network seems small and wonder about part availability.
      Maybe I should just keep my old CC DS with the Kawasaki FE290. Have always done my own maintenance and repairs on this old gal. It has been a great cart. I just kind of wanted a newer unit with higher gears.

    • @Kevinsgolfcarts
      @Kevinsgolfcarts  Рік тому

      From what I've seen, Cushmans are rebadged EZGOs. I don't know if that's the case, but all of the parts are interchangeable. The older Yamahas are decent carts. Everything from the G22 and down are very easy to work on. The G29/Drive is the same, but the plastic floor pan and frame kills it for me. The G22 and lower use steel floor pans and frames.
