    I have owned an Atto 3 in Perth, Australia for over a year and zero complaints. We got two speeding tickets early on due to outrageous acceleration, but now have got used to it. First 3-month service cost was ZERO and annual service $189 Aussie dollars (US$113). Software is especially strong, voice recognition is outstanding. Very useful boot space. Cost was $30,000 Aussie dollars (US$18,000) after trade-ins. We sold two petrol cars for $18,000, so original price in late 2022 was $48,000. We now use just the one car and make it work. Savings per year $1,600 (petrol and servicing). Insurance is CHEAPER than the old cars. I don't know what some insurance shills are smoking? Range is the other bonus, real world 420km on a full charge (263 miles). Last and biggest advantage is the cost of charging. This is ZERO because we have solar panels and never needed a fast charge. It is a thumbs up from me and my wife, so if you want good value for money, just get one.

    BYD strategy will be a winner. They push PHEVs and EVs equally hard. PHEVs are easier for many people to jump into than EVs due to charging and range anxiety. But they will buy into the BYD ecosystem. Most of those people will buy a BYD EV next.

      A listen to what Michael Dunne of Dunne Insights should be in order for you, Google can help, try to find everything he says about the Chinese Auto industry. Also please just go to your Home Depot or Best Buy store, check where the products sold there are sourced from and where it is made, chances are the sticker will say "Made in China".I don't like the Chinese for what they are doing in the SCSeas and their Autocratic government, but they are a powerhouse in manufacturing. And tariffs and such is not going to save those who don't adapt to changing times.

    The move from ICE cars to EVs is similar to the transition from Hard Disk Drives to Solid State Drives in computers. It starts out very expensive, then gets cheaper year after year, and then suddenly becomes so inexpensive that you can hardly find regular Hard Disk Drives anymore, except for high-capacity ones used for backing up your data. Toyota has been slow to react, just like Kodak was slow to adapt.

      Were SSD's mandated by government? Subsidised by taxpayers? *No.* Were digital cameras? Were smartphones? *No.* These products succeeded because they are better. However, EV's seem to require compulsion through regulations and subsidies to force people to buy them. Why do EV's need this if they are a better product?

      China basically shuts down for Chinese New Year. Every year for almost every company. I 2023, it fell in January, so sales dipped the most in Jan. In 2024, it fell in early February, so sales dipped more there. People who do not understand the Chinese economy look at the data in 1Q compared to 4Q and claim that Chinese companies and the overall Chinese economy are collapsing. Then 2Q happens and sales recover. Every year.

    for most people the gasoline part of the PHEV is an insurance and hedge for unexpected rough situations! i recall Li auto CEO saying from their stats that owners of PHEV 70-80% of them use the cars as BEVs and only resort to using gasoline in needed situations.

In their strategy, the European head office - located in Schiedam, the Netherlands - plays a crucial role. We recently rented a BYD Atto 3 for a week. We hit the road with an open mind but it didn’t take long to notice a big discrepancy in the projected range (on the screen) and what the car was actually achieving. The charging app that we downloaded at the agency didn’t work so after 45 minutes of phone calls and texts, we finally were able to charge the car. Three coffees, 2 crappy hamburgers and a cryptic crossword later we finally got away having wasted essentially half a day. The car itself felt vague in the steering and the handling on a twisty road was mushy. Definitely a cheap poorly built throw away car. My wife was furious, nicknamed it our POS rental car (piece of sh-t)…😂

    • @GDM22
      @GDM22 3 місяці тому

      @@ivannavi8154EVs are not a good idea as a rental. Firstly they are great city cars, where they achieve their highest range the opposite of ICE and are also most advantageous for people with off street parking where they can charge at home. Sounds like you were looking at doing a long trip and were going to be reliant on public charging. Like anything new there is a bit of a learning curve for new drivers undertaking a long trip, and you neither had the time to learn or the patience. The Atto 3 is an SUV setup with a bias towards comfort, if you want something that handles better on a twisty road choose a vehicle designed for that purpose, but that will have compromises for the city. With regards to quality, my experience with them is that they feel comfortable, quiet and solid, they will also comfortably achieve and even exceed their WLTP range in the city where the bulk of most people's driving occurs. If I was going on a long trip and wanted an EV a Model 3 or Y would be the better choice as the maintain their efficiency better on the open road at highway speeds. Also, did you check the tyres and put a bit more air in them for the higher speeds and twisty roads, sounds like you didn't.
