I know im asking the wrong place but does anyone know of a tool to get back into an instagram account?? I stupidly forgot the login password. I would appreciate any assistance you can offer me
Great book for a beginner . ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ this book really starts from the beginning, as in it explains what basic tools are and how to use them. But when it gets to the art of creating joints and how and when to use them this book really starts to teach you something. At least that was my experience.
I am very thankful for the ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO that has been a tremendous help to me in building a perfect outdoor shed. I have been facing many challenges and difficulties for a long time, but this plan has guided me to correct the mistakes during the process. I am impressed by the projects and I express my gratitude to the creator of this collection of plans.
Boxes are all I make and want to make. I had made a really nice hinged box with what I believe to be a new way of incorporating legs or feet (hope to figure out how to make a YT video on it). It is one of my best boxes to date. I had a woman offer me $25.00 for it. I told her I wouldn't take a penny less than $250.00 for it. She was shocked. I don't think the average person appreciates fine craftsmanship and the uniqueness of something you can't find in a retail store...and when you do, they're cheaply made. I watched this video a couple of years ago when I started out and never tire of seeing it. Nice work, JKM.
Jonathan, Jonathan, Jonathan! You never cease to amaze me… dude, your workmanship is over-the-top incredible! That box is absolutely gorgeous! I’m just starting to make six memory boxes for my children and my two best friends. They include a voice box and mini urn, (I have a terminal illness), so they can keep photos, letters, a share of my ashes, and I am recording messages for each one of them so they can hear my voice whenever they want to. I always try to do my best work, but you just inspired me to take it up to a whole new level. I’ve followed you for quite some time now, and always appreciate your teachings. The only thing I’m not sure about is how to wrap the thread so it never unravels, but Google is my friend, and I shall look it up, (I just love the handles). Thank you as always! - signed Tim, (a fellow woodworker, and friend you’ve never met). ☮️❤️
Thanks for throwing in that part about pricing, I've been making boxes for a little while now and I keep getting told that if I want to sell them they need to be under $100, but they also still need to be made from walnut with nice brass hardware...
I have made a fair amount of custom humidors over the years. It's hard to compete with china but in the end people who can afford custom appreciate the quality. Fortunately most of my humidors have been gifts or for charity events so making a profit wasn't the goal.
I routinely make boxes for a specific purpose and sell them between 65-115$/box dependent on wood choice. If you can target an audience you can make good money on small boxes. Boxes that are built to be cute without an intended purpose are where it becomes a harder sell.
@@terristroh3965 A guy I did work for on his house told me once if people want such a huge discount that they aren't your friends or family. At the end of the day we all want to get paid our fair worth.
The beauty of building boxes is that u work thru the entire process from wood selection to finish on a relative shorter period of time (compared to a dresser) and perfecting each of those steps.
I recently started a crafts furniture making course. My very first project was a jewelry box inspired by this video. I made it out of elm and walnut. Except for the milling of the wood, it is completely made with handtools. Not a single electrically powered appliance was used. I am inordinately proud of the result, even if it does still contain some mistakes and you can definitely see it was made by a novice. I want to thank you for this video and design, that inspired me for my very first project. I'd love to share a picture with you, but that isn't possible here :)
When I saw your Instagram post about this box, I couldn't wait to watch the video. Now that I have, I'm inspired to try (key word) and make something that (hopefully) resembles it. This has got to be one of the coolest boxes around.
Intended as a compliment: I love the mix of woodworking knowledge and montage that makes it feel kind of like a training montage from one of the Rocky movies. You just need to add a voice-over of Devito grumbling perplexing one-liners many to inspire you to cut cleaner in the style of a fight trainer.
Just went out and bought a two sided Japanese pull saw a coping saw a marking guage finally gonna try my hand on cutting joints to increase my woodworking skills this is my first attempt but I'm gonna try to make some small boxes for trinkets. You have inspired me to try this. I am striving to do this with hand tools and no power tools like the old timers did
You should be proud! That is a beautiful box. I am going to shamelessly steal an idea or 3 for a few boxes I get to make in the immediate near future. Keep your fingers crossed; they will be my first efforts at box making.
Thanks for the great video. I aspire to be even close to how good you are. As a beginner with about a year of making many different things, watching your videos make me realize how much I need to step up my game. 😅
I have to say, I enjoy watching your content more than any other woodworking on UA-cam (with the exception of Paul Sellers- sorry he’s a legend). You are the awesome. I learn something new every video. And your filming is so professional. Your on screen personality is the best. You are humble and instructional. Thanks man
That's a beautiful box, Jonathan~!! Don't if you've used this technique with Wenge, but I built Mike Pekovich's tea box (FWW) using it and he used a wire brush on the Wenge to give it texture. I did it the same way and it came out fantastic. Such a difference from the "dead" flat feeling of the wood (as he describes it) to the texture that the brushing creates. Great job~!
WOW!!! That came out gorgeous Jonathan. Thanks for sharing this build and I also appreciate the way how to fix something that just wasn't right. Those are the tips that really help someone like myself learning how to master the skill. Thanks again! Felix
That is awesome.. I love how it looks so easy when you take things to ANOTHER level.. You always manage to demonstrate true and creative craftsmanship ! Respect!!
Let me tell you something when daddy put those boxes in and they slowly slid in slightly pushing air out I became fully torqued instantly. Great job on the box and b-roll
Great looking box, J! I’m setting up to make some jewelry boxes for my daughters for Christmas, and I got some good ideas from this video. The continuous-grain wrap by using book-matched wood looks really, really cool... I was planning on dovetail joinery, but these splined meters look so good I am going to try it for at least one box. BTW, the “trick” of closing a miter gap with your burnishing tool is awesome! Thanks for the great content, again.
Is there anything you don’t turn from a block of wood into the most amazing piece of art? I have yet to see anything less than. Appreciate all your teachings and I try to follow you as best I can to learn so I can create some one of kinds of my own.
It was so cool Jonathan. The oak and wenge is a great contrast. You just inspired me to build a box! Plus your videos are fantastic- lighting, edits, music. Well done again
Great box! You also don't have to worry about grain movement because of the way you built it. The inserted boxes are made from the same wood with grain running in the same direction as the outer box.... that thing will last for generations! No worries!
Jonathan - Outstanding workmanship. Very educational and I loved how the box looks. I plan on using many of your tips! Thank you for sharing your talents!

Beautiful little box here. Love how you did the end to end grain matching. I love white oak, even though a lot of people seem to prefer maple. And the contrast with the wenge is just perfect. I definitely need to start making some boxes. Thanks for the inspiration!
I learned that tape trick with grain match mitres a long time ago making crown molding, trim and fill pieces for cabinets in a production shop. I prefer to use clear packing tape so I can see the joint and the squeeze out. If you do it right there is no glue cleanup at all and very little sanding. It’s a great way to achieve a perfect corner.
I like the trick that you used masking tape on the INSIDE of the mitres during glue up , makes squeeze out easy to clean rather than having to wipe all the glue or worse scrape it when it dries ... Great work as always
