  • 🎸ABOUT THIS LESSON
Try this simple triad exercise on guitar to finally understand how to memorize, use, and understand major and minor triads.
Triads are some of the most powerful musical tools that we can use to understand chords, create chord progressions, and create interesting and exciting technique exercises.
The only downside of practicing and learning triads is that we end up with a lot of different shapes.
Let me show you a simple approach that can help you figure out how to build tridas in different positions of the neck and how to use them melodically.
In this guitar lesson, you will learn how to play triads in root position, 1st, and 2nd inversion over a simple chord progression.
I warn you! You'll play many chords!
    Enjoy the lesson.

    🎸FAQs:
    Are you a full-time UA-camr?
Yes, I am on UA-cam as Marco Cirillo, and I promote my videos on BlitzGuitar.com. All the courses I post online are available on my Patreon page bit.ly/2rMAPYG.
How long have you been playing guitar?
I started playing guitar when I was 10 years old, so it has been more than 20 years. I have always loved fingerpicking guitar, so this is why all my tutorials focus on this topic.
    Why are you on Patreon?
Patreon is great! It allows creators to make money doing what they love. On Patreon, I can share my guitar lessons with my Patrons and get paid for them. As a creator, I feel like Patreon really made a massive difference in the way I share my content :)
    Do you do concerts?
I used to do a lot of gigs in the past. London is a great place to play music almost every day. When my UA-cam channel started to grow, I decided to go all-in and try to help as many people as possible learning guitar. This goal takes all the time I have available, so I am not doing any gig or concert.

What a great video - and what a lot of stuff to take in for a triad-novice. The overview explained in a very clear way some of the issues that have baffled me in my over fifty years of strumming. I have a strong feeling that these exercises are going to bring my playing to a level it should have reached years ago. So thanks to UA-cam for making lessons like these accessible and not the least to you Marco for being such a good teacher.

Marco, a superb video! I and I think others would like to see a follow-up or Part 2 video covering the best finger selections/actions for the right hand. So, what fingers for ADG, DGB and GBE string-formed Triads as a starting point? It'd help reduce chord playing down to their basic and isolated 1-3-5 strings.

In soloing, it helps you to end your solos on the third or root. In chord building, it helps you play rythm guitar with snippets of chords that are easy on the hands as opposed to full blown barred chords and once you combine this knowledge with the cage system plaing the same melody or chord all over the fretboard and finding the patterns with ease is the ultimate reward.

  • @karstux

So. Many. Shapes! Unfortunately this difficulty is an artifact of standard tuning, with this vexing major third interval between the G and B strings. In an all-fourths tuning, triads become dead simple all over the fretboard, because the shapes never change across string sets. Unfortunately I have too much time (and muscle memory) invested in learning the standard tuning fretboard and scales, and I'm not sure I could switch (as a casual player).
