I love this guy, just found him a couple days ago and have been watching his stuff obsessively in my free time (and even playing his stuff on the Bluetooth at jobsites for subliminal learning). The mft sealing is a good idea but I would’ve applied it with a roller in two different directions so that you can get it more even before it dries and then sanded with 600 grit by hand very lightly to eliminate any micro bubbles. Also maybe seal the dog holes with a stain brush after creating the chamfer. Don’t mean to be critical but his level of precision is the reason I’ve been so dialed into his work. I like that he is excited to share techniques but also doesn’t pander to all people that are doing their first project at home thinking they can “figure it out on UA-cam”…..I usually tell clients that I will charge half as much if they DONT try to fix things themselves first.
I love the power locks, I have a small metalworking vice screwed to a piece of plywood with 20mm holes, so I can drop it anywhere on the bench and secure it with power locks.
I had a buddy that did that with a 5 in 1 scraper and I was cleaning out the can to use for cut in and didnt realize he did that. I ended up nearly cutting off the tip of my finger. Blood everywhere, customer was cool about it but concerned.
Hey , shoot I need to go into my shop ......... whew Sedge I thought you raided my shop . I own all of those items and each one is indispensable !! I love every item they work wonderfully on my home built MFT via the UJK parf guide . Love the videos. I love festool live on Fridays as well . Have a wonderful day and thank you for the infectious energy you bring ..
I do 50/50 mix of wipe on poly and mineral spirits. It dries so fast that you can do an application every hour. I apply the first 3 coats and sand up through the grits to 220. Then I apply 4-8 more coats. I let that cure for 24 hours. I then apply a coat of paste wax and buff off. I use the UJK bit to clear everything out afterwards. It tends to last 2 years and I've seen zero droop in the top because that finish is so hard that it keeps it from flexing. Reapplication is easy. I sand it back to 100 grit and start over when it finally wears out.
Hey @Sedge wicked video as usual. Where is the link for those non-marring low profile dogs? Maybe is just my inability, but couldn't find it on the description. Thank you for all you do,
Sedge- "Somebody" did the #1 NO NO and didn't check the depth on the TS55 cordless track saw and went through the MDF-only about a few inches then realized my mistake. Can I put painters tape underneath and fill the hole with epoxy halfway? Is there any trick/video to just flipping the table and starting fresh from the other side? If I only walked on water :-) Really enjoy your tips- They DO help. From Inferno Texas
thank you so much sedge for your work, I'm from Brazil and a big fan of yours, always connected to your festool lives, I really admire your knowledge! health!!! as for the ujk hole reamer it is excellent it was developed by peter parfitt a joiner from the united kingdom passionate about joinery just like us.
Sedge, I was thinking (Run for the hills🤣) about gluing Formica to my MFT's top. I have some leftover from a desk I made for a friend's daughters during the pandemic as an "Ikea" clone as none where available and she was dead set on a specific design/look. I use a small piece of it on my MFT from time to time to protect it as I work, and then I thought it might be better if it was just permanently laminated/glued to the top. I realize it would be a bit of work re-drilling all the holes, and I would be using UJK's tools like you demonstrated, as I have already bought into their system. I was also wondering how the chamfer tool would work on formica, I would have to do a test on some scrap first to make sure. What are your thoughts Sedge? All the Best, Chuck.
@@sedgetool Yeah, it would be hard to clamp down to being it is rather slick too. But it would look nice and clean, until I cut it all up. 🤪 I'll try your seal coat method, thanks. All the Best, Chuck.
@sedgetool I'd love you to review the UJK HDF Valchromat replacement top for the MFT sold by Axminster. I've heard real good things, but you have the most MFT experience.

wicked cool
4:03 awesome! I noticed the nail holes in rim of quart….I was taught that trick 30 years ago from an older shop foreman….
Right on !!!!! My Dad taught me that when I was a kid !!! too cool

Great tip on the top sealer. Thanks, Sedge!
You bet!

I picked up a 2x2 from Home Cheapo for my straight edge
😬😬😬
UJK and TSO have a lot of bench dog items for the MFT. BenchDog from the UK has some really cool fences as well.
Cool !! Thanks

I know several folks that did exactly that and poured epoxy in the cut to fill the void ... make sure you use a tape that sticks really well....

Thanks...I have always enjoyed Peter's knowledge and videos..one of my favorite channels...
@@sedgetoolMine too ❤ thank you dear !!!!
Do you think it would be beneficial to seal both sides? I’m thinking maybe it would be less prone to cupping?
it could be..I never have and have never had a cupping issue due to not sealing the bottom...... when I flip it over to a fresh top I seal it then...
Hi Sedge, is it important to check the awareness of the MFT saw system? Thanks.
you just don't want a lot of bow if it is critical for your work for the workbench to be perfectly flat .....

Chuck...I personally would not go through all that effort...I cut into my MFT/3 occasionally as I cross cut...

Hmmmmmmmm
Sege, blink twice if Festool is currently working on an updated version of the mft3. Cheers from Chicago.
I do not know ....seriously
The top will cup over time even if you have never cut into it. Just the way it goes.
OK
Anyone know who makes that straight edge? : ) Thank you in Advance. Merry Christmas everyone.
