2020 has sure been a pretty awful year. Hopefully this will brighten some folks day. Happy holidays everyone.
Here's a previously unheard practice tape of Ted Ed Fred (pre-Nirvana) with Dale Crover on drums. They were preparing for their first proper studio recording with Jack Endino, which took place a few weeks later on January 23rd, 1988.

Everyone complaining about 2020, but my life has always sucked, so this amount of Nirvana is a net positive on the year.

Yeah man his fingertips were all calloused smashed and stretched and appeared like working man's fingers. Spatulas. I've been practicing hard using hard rock from my 13 years old self had a wide range off available popular music. From not so hard Ccream dire straits, Steelie Dan, Kansas inspired The Prodigy was cool with Sepultura Slayer, Dream Theater and Helmet on the same bill blew my mind. BLACK F I N G SABBATH acdc Seattle NIRVANA I was 10 in 88. Guns n Rose's beastie boys. Rushs 2112 was one record I had my hands on bye 1988 I had a copy of bleach after Nevermind and Bleach after That because of the 1000 copy issue Nirvana was the Stuff the first mainstream punk Skater Rock head sounds. Very contemporary Artsy style brought the Punk and Thrash music bye late 1991 while in jr high. I'd seen Metallica and the Greateful dead and job that year hol crap. Tickets for 4 shows I mentioned bye 1992. I along with the universe was waiting for announcement of 1994 or 1995 Nirvana Tour. Man the deaths of Kurt and Jerry them years changed the progressive mind of music. Both were part of large music scenes. Keep the rock alive

Dale Crover on drums!
You can hear a big difference just right at the start compared to their 1987 session with Aaron.
Like Endino said, Aaron had a more simple playstyle compared to Dale. It's quite interesting to see how powerful Love Buzz just sounds compared to the 1987 session.

Yeah Dale is a very intense drummer. But I think Aaron was good. They didn’t need a super intricate drummer I think at least.

At 32:25 just before Floyd he says, 'this is off our first album', that's an odd thing to say at this time
Yeah I picked that up, as bleach wasn’t released till June ‘89 and the recording started later in ‘88 I think.
@@soupcat5728 Kurt did say odd things at times and had a real dedication to his music. He did want Floyd the barber to be the opening track on the album and it was part of their set from the beginning but it's still an odd thing to say. Especially given how he introduced the MTV unplugged concert
@@anytimecowboy I assume he already knew by this point (early 1988) that Floyd would end up on what was gonna be known as “Bleach”. Sometimes when you’re jamming with friends and fuckin’ around, you pretend you’re already a rock star playing to an audience. My guess is he was acting out what he would say in front of a real crowd before playing that song. Remember Nirvana wasn’t even Nirvana yet, they were “Ted Ed Fred” and they had only played parties and small dive gigs at this point. Kurt’s clairvoyance is interesting however as Floyd is arguably one of the best tracks on Bleach. It’s like he already knew how much people would like that simple, but raw and catchy beast of a song.
They may have referred to that KAOS recording as an album, as that's all they'd really done up to that point but it would have been a milestone for them at that time.
Most bands of the 80's just let their casette-recorders run and called the results 'Albums'. Several of my classmates were in bands and they had the tape recorders running whenever they went out on a stage. And as far as I know none om my classmates ever made a real 'album' they sold copies of their tapes, though.

sounds like two sources mixed
@@koty4968 if both of those sources were recorded on tape, there's no way they'd match up due to the fluctuation of time/ tempo between sources.
@@AnotherWorldYT it could be corrected while mixing.
@@koty4968 there is no such vst to do that automatically, it would have to analyse one track and then apply those pitch/ tempo modulation curves to the other track, effectively lowering the quality of one of the tracks with pitch manipulation artefacts. doing that by hand for 40 mins of audio would also be hell. It is more highly likely that whatever they were recording on was stereo IMO it was only 1988, the high of mass produced cassette technology and stereo input decks were in abundance.
the oddness you may be hearing in the stereo track is likely phase issues (common with in-built stereo mics, or just using two little microphones which were also common for decks at the time).
interesting thought though.
@@AnotherWorldYT Notice that left and right channels are not playing at the exact same time. Right channel has significantly more drums and bass sounds and much less vocal. Also, why Love Buzz is mono?

I think he overcomplicated the drums on this version though. Think Chads parts for love buzz were more fitting.

I think it’s one of those songs that’s a lot better live. Dave grohls drums when they played the paradiso Amsterdam really was amazing
As much as I love Chad's drumming, you can see why Kurt became frustrated with him after having played with a drummer like Dale who was super tight and powerful. This is an amazing upload.
Yeah, Chad was a huge downgrade in terms of drumming. I love the dude though.

Chad is a really nice guy, but Dale is also a nice guy and one of America's best rock drummers.
