    everything is so clear when you get a real demonstration! I had looked at pictures and text explanations for a while but coudn't really imagine how it really worked... Now I understand why they say a CVT has essentially "infinite gears". Thanks!

    Very well explained! Even the smallest things in transmission can make a difference in performance. I've bought my second scooter - 2013 Aprilia SR50R (carb ) and I''m rebuilding it to 70cc ,i did rebuild my 1st scooter Yamaha Aerox to 70cc too ,but only changed the pipe, cylinder kit and air filter. It ran good for the small amount of tuning i did. But the SR50R i'm tuning a lot more -sport transmission ,Yasuni pipe , streetrace 70cc ,bigger carb ,intake etc. ,thanks to this video I learned a bit more about transmission tuning.
    I'm surprised that in USA the scooter tuning is also popular. I'm from Europe (eastern europe - Latvia) and here it's a very popular thing amongst teenagers and even adults. You can pass the moped exam if you're 14. ( I'm 16 btw.) We even have a scooter forum ,official scooter meetings twice a year (10 or 11 years since the 1st one) with cast-iron and aluminium class drag races , and a lot of scooter riders upgrade their rides a lot to win those drags..even porting cylinders and engine blocks.
    In the past I thought that in USA people only put 150cc big bore kits on their 4 stroke chinese scooters and that's all with tuning :D but I'm surprised that there are 2 stroke powerful builds with all the known brands - Malossi ,Polini , Stage 6 etc.
    A subscribe and like from me.

      I was having trouble with it bogging on take off, after pulling it all to bits like a million times, I eventually found the variator had a destroyed roller that was jamming it in top gear, I removed the dead roller and now no more bogging,

    @JeffBassir-lo6zj Місяць тому

    I'm new to all this. My new 150cc scooter seems to engage a bit slower than I would like it to (manufacturer says it engages at 1700 rpm). There seems to be a bit of a slack in the throttle. How can I make it so the clutch engages quicker? By adjusting the throttle cable? Or by getting 1000 rpm clutch springs? If I change the clutch springs to 1000 rpm, do I need to also change the contra spring to 1000 rpm? How about the variator rollers weights? Do I need to change them to lighter weights as well?

    may i ask how are the rules for you in the u.s. because i love to work on my scooter its fun and "relaxing some times" but if my scooter makes it to 80 kmh/ 50 mph they will take away my license and if you really unlucky the also conficated your scooter here in the netherlands. and what i always show the cops is he orignal manual from my piaggio typhoon. it says at 50mph atleast keep about 10m/33ft from the car in front of you. and they just say that its not true.

      Us and Canada if you have a motorcycle lisence (even a beginner's) there are no limitations on which motorcycle or how fast it is. There is limitations on when and where you can ride and writhed or not you can have a passenger. Until you're fully lisenced.

    I don't own a scooter yet, but I plan to. I'm an old motorcycle rider who has to ride a trike due to my wife's many health iseeus. But I am now looking at scooters for the amooth ride.
    I think the engineering that went into a scooter's cvt is amazing. It is so simple and yet works so well. Your video does a great job explianing how they work.
    I will probably change the clutch springs on whatever scooter I buy. I will install weaker springs becsuse I want the clutch to engage sooner than stock. Then I will look into the rollers to make sure the front pulley is giving me the max it can give. I don't know if I will change the spring on the rear pulley because it seems to me if I have the right weight rollers in the front pulley it shoud over come the spring in the rear and give me the maximun performance. Well, good enough for me anyway.
    Thanks for such a good video on a scooter CVT and thank you for removeing the cover and showing exactly how they work. I already knew how they work, but it was nice to watch one while it was in action.

However, at WOT on a sharpie trick i doesn't seem to ride high on top of the vario and left about 10-15mm mark. SHould i go for heavier sliders? Like 6g? but it's still the same belt doesn't go all the way up on the variator, I squeezed the belt in the clutch as much as I could And I THINK THAT MY CLUTCH DOESN'T LET THE BELT GO ALL THE WAY UP 😫😫

    I've got an uncle that lost his license for 10 years, but does work for me. Sometimes he rides his scooter in to work, because that is the only thing he can legally drive, but other times he has to get a ride. This slows him down quite a bit, as scooters aren't as fast as vehicles and he is a carpenter, but doesn't have room for his tools. I'm fascinated by these modifications, and wonder how fast and powerful you could make a 50cc scooter before it would be super obvious to law enforcement and get people driving with a suspended license busted. Also driving them in the winter is very very cold. I'll bet the 3 wheel trike scooters could have some sort of "cab" attached to help with that.

    • @Scooterswapshop
      @Scooterswapshop  2 роки тому

      if it has 3 wheels its not a scooter. and its all dependant on your laws. never heard of not being able to drive anything but a scooter legally

      @@Scooterswapshop I live in Indiana. Per the law here, scooters are considered class B motor driven cycles and "Designed to have 3 wheels or fewer on the ground." I did go back over the law requirements though and they can only go 35 mph max. So I suppose if you did too much modification to them, they would break the law in another way. And it is just for people with a suspended license in Indiana. Scooters are legal to drive with only an ID card. You don't need a drivers license.

      @@Scooterswapshop right. but what i was thinking was, do i need to do the marker trick till the belt is riding all the way up, then goto then clutch afterwards? or is the belt riding all the way up not the most optimal?

    Doesn’t the belt create friction against the side walls leading to some power loss

    • @Scooterswapshop
      @Scooterswapshop  5 років тому +2

      Somewhat yea. But it also allows the motor to be in the powerband at all times. A 35hp cvt bike will be faster than a 35hp geared bike most the time

    Thanks for this. Do you have any idea, why is it that: on my scooter when i start mmoving with the bike at the beginning its shaking the whole bike for a few seconds and then its smooth again at a higher speed. So its shaking at the beginning of the speed up process, is the clutch spring not ok, or the whole clutch worn and not cathing the clutch house properly? Do i need to replace all parts or just spring or other parts?

    I have a 2003 yamaha bws, did a brake stand and it started to wheel hop. I developed a vibration and eventually lost drive. IS it usually a belt that snaps or the cvt went to shit. I still have to take it apart to have a look.

    So if my bike is only hitting about 8400 rpm’s and holding when I pin the throttle, what can I do to make it hit a higher rpm and have more speed? I have 1500 rpm springs, and I’m running 5.5 gram rollers or 5 gram one of the two, the bike is a 139qmb with a 50mm bbk on it , just a free barn find I built to wheelie but it’s really got me into scooters and I really wanna understand how to easily tune; bike will only do 41 mph @ 8400 rpms

    So I went to the mechanic today with squeeky noise coming out of the cvt box. He openned it and tried to unscrew the variator nut and the kick starter ratched shattered into small pieces. What could have caused that? Perhaps the kickstart spindle was making contact witb it while I was driving? He did not say much since he was the who serviced it last time Thanks
