I just love it when you say “never heard of him, never heard this song before in my life” and it turns out to be one of the most iconic songs and artists in ‘merica. It just blesses my southern heart. 😆

Jimmy sang songs that soothe my soul. You need to listen to more. “Son of a Son of a Sailor”, “A Pirate Looks At 40”, “One Particular Harbor”, “Changes in Latitudes Changes in Attitudes”, “Cheeseburger in Paradise”, or “Fins” are all classics. I love his lesser known gems like “The Great Filling Station Holdup” or “Peanut Butter Conspiracy” too. If you want the best way to experience his music find live concerts. They were like a beach party and were so much fun. I saw him live one time and it was only a couple of years before he passed away. It’s one of my favorite memories of all time and I’ll never forget it.

Jimmy Buffett is a singer-songwriter, musician & actor. His songs have such a laid back island feel to them. I had a couple of his albums. He had a lot of hits especially in the 70's-80's such as “Son Of Son Of A Sailor”, “Fins”, “He Went To Paris”, “Cheeseburger In Paradise”, “A Pirate Looks At Forty”, “One Particular Harbor”, "Come Monday", “Changes In Latitudes, Changes In Attitudes”, “Volcano”, “Boat Drinks”, “Pencil Thin Mustache” etc.

Who can ever forget Jimmy's incredible performance in the movie Jurassic World as Margarita 🍹 Man. It's a crime that he wasn't given an Oscar for that role.

When he wrote it, Margaritaville was more a metaphor for any of the Florida beach communities. Now he has a chain of restaurants bearing the same name. While it's true much of his commercial success was in the 70s and 80s, don't overlook the very solid album "Fruitcakes" from the 90s - "Six String Music" and his cover of "Uncle John's Band" are outstanding.

Oh My !! Wanting to check out more Buffett... The Aussie is on the way to becoming a Parrot-Head !!!!! Welcome Brother to the Multitude! "was that a real place?" geographically, no - its a metaphor for his drinking, BUT, after this song hit it big, he made it his brand and there are tropical themed restaurants and a casino named Margaritaville in various parts of the US.. he owns it all. If something has "Margaritville" on it, he owns it. He's the king and original creator of the "Island music" genre.
    RIP Jimmy (Sept. 1, 2023)

Margaritaville is now a restaurant/bar chain he owns throughout the US and Caribbean. Some are part of hotels in NYC and Vegas, and in some airports. Others are in on islands It's all about a tropical lifestyle where the drinks are cold and the food is hot.
When I was living in northern New York State at college in the 1990s, my friend got me into Jimmy's music. One Winter day, right before Christmas with the Winter temperatures well below zero and many feet of fresh snow outside, my friend set up a plastic child pool in his dorm room. He sat in the water drinking alcohol all day dreaming about being on some island somewhere. He had Jimmy's greatest hits blaring while enjoying life.
Jimmy's fans are called Parrotheads and they travel around following his tours in buses and trucks like the Deadheads used to do when the Grateful Dead was on tour.
Another poster listed some of his greatest hits. And you have to listen to the song Jamaica Mistaica. The song is about the time Jimmy was flying his seaplane to Jamaica with the singer Bono of the band U2 and their families. Well, the Jamaican police got a tip that a drug kingpin was about to land in Jamaican waters. The police thought Jimmy's plane was the drug kingpin, and the police opened fire as soon as the plane touched the water. No one on the plane was hit by bullets, but the plane was badly damaged. The plane is now at one of the Margaritaville restaurants in Orlando, Florida, USA. Jamaica Mistaica talks about the incident.

1st off Lyle his fans are called Parrotheads. And he lived in the Florida Keys for a number of years, and the laid-back lifestyle of the Keys is just amazing. It's why I love it here in South Fla...Key Largo is 50 miles south of my front door. This influenced Jimmy's music greatly. One of his last songs to chart was "Fruitcakes" it's done to a keys/Caribbean reggae beat...it's wild !! Check that and Come Monday out...react to it on a Monday...you'll love it

Great reaction. I lived in key West for 10 years and you can't walk down Dual Street without hearing Buffett in one of the bars. There's an annual parrot head convention called meeting of the minds right after fantasy fest, and Jimmy shows up every 3 or 4 years and performs at the free concert I've seen him several times.

Not everyone knows what a ''pop top'' is. It's the pull tab from the old beer cans that many people would just throw on ground because that's what people did back in the day. Of course, the edge of the tab was sharp so that's why it ''cut my heel had to cruise on back home.''

margaritaville is a state of mind when you use booze to make yourself deal with your life and the things you have done to put you in this place in your life and as he drinks more he becomes more honest with himself that is he was to blame for his troubles

With its musical success, it merchandising success (Still successful today) to a very popular chain of restaurants with the same name that brings in between 1.5 and 2 billion dollars per year and still going. Patrol Nation: enjoyed your reaction, I quess Jimmy Buffett was a little before 'your time'.
Apparently Jimmy Buffett was a very astute business man, he parlayed his earnings from Margaritaville into a restaurant and hotel conglomerate worth one billion $. Well good for him. His reputation was of a 'good guy'! Hope he's tipping a tasty one with the angels.
