Looked at a couple comments about part 2 thinking, “Nobody’s mentioning Lauren Hill!!” Then I thought, “OMG I’m so old.” Still, Lauren Hill is great in Pt2.

Yes, Sister Act 2 is solid, I watched both part 1 and part 2 on packed theaters.
Sister Mary Patrick is portrayed by the great Kathy Najimy, voice of Peggy Hill from King of the Hill. She was also one of the witches from Hocus Pocus.
Whoopi was an amazing actress in the late 80’s early 90’s. You should check out her Oscar winning role for Best Supporting Actress in Ghost, which is considered one of the top romantic and top Supernatural films of all-time. She was also nominated for Best Actress for the film The Color Purple. She is phenomenal in that film and Oprah was also in that film and was nominated for Best Supporting Actress.
I was going to mention her Oscar for Ghost too. Good to see the comment is already here. The first time I saw here in a movie when I was a kid was "Jumpin' Jack Flash" and she did great in that too. The years following to its release they used to show it on TV and I used to watch it every opportunity I had.
Maggie Smith is great in this. She has some incredibly cutting insults on the sly and I love how she softens by the end. Whoopi has always been a class act. For more of Whoopi doing some great acting - Fatal Beauty, with Sam Elliot.
The second one is just as wonderful as the first one. A few interesting things, some of the nuns in the choir have actually been on Broadway and also that is actually Whoopi singing, I look forward to you seeing the second one:)
The sequel's a bit better - less gunplay, lots of new, interesting characters added, and more singing. Sister Mary Clarence gets roped back into her habit to help the sisters rehabilitate a failing high school - Deloris's old Catholic school. This one's actually based on a true story - they just wrapped it into the Sister Act universe.
Sequel is also pretty good. Heck, it might be even better. Definitely give it a watch! And if you enjoy Whoopi, you just gotta see Jumpin Jack Flash. Her best comedy movie IMO. EDIT: After just rewatching some of Sister Act 2, yes, I think it is even better! I mean, for gods sake, it' got Lauren Hill in it.
Back in the day, Whoopi was a great actress. She won an Oscar for The Color Purple, but the movie she did before (Eddie) was an acting tour de force. She was just awesome in that film. The sequel to Sister Act is just as good as the original, if not better. Lauren Hill was so great, both singing and acting.
Fun fact about "the pope loves it!" My mom is from Poland, and knew him when he was a bishop (he was the young-ish hip Bishop in her area, and would always be singing with a guitar at any and every church camp). She said he loved music, and he would totally legitimately jam out to that if this was a true story!
As a former choir geek, you have no IDEA how incredible this movie is if you've spent any time in a church or a choir group... I'm so happy you enjoyed it!
Shocked that you reacted to this as not many have, please do the sequel _”Sister Act 2: Back In The Habit”_ , musically on a whole notha level especially the singing 👍🏾👍🏾.
When auditioning for a role and asked if they can sing, *every* actor says yes, even if they can't. Sadly, she was the only one in the cast that couldn't actually sing.
One of my favorite character actresses from the Golden Age of Hollywood musicals is here-Sister Mary Lazarus, the original choir leader, is played by Mary Wickes. Whenever she pops up in a movie, I am happy to see her.
You HAVE to watch the second film. The sequel is awesome as well. It may not have gangsters after the character, but it is still a solid film. And some amazing music as well. Don't worry, won't spoil the movie any more than that for you. Though I do have to add, my favorite line from both films comes from the second, "Go with God, Crispy."
The actress who played Sister Mary Lazarus was the late, great Mary Wickes. She had a career that lasted from the 1930s to the 1990s. She was in classic films such as Abbot and Costello’s “Who Done It” and the holiday classic “White Christmas.” She was the live-action model for the artists when originally drawing Cruella De Vil in “101 Dalmatians.” She would play the grandmother in “Postcards from the Edge” in 1990. Her final onscreen role was Aunt March in the 1994 version of “Little Women,” and her final performance was the gargoyle Laverne in Disney’s “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.”
That is her real voice. Jennifer Lewis who plays one of the background singers in the movie taught her how to sing. Jennifer Lewis is also a great actress and singer.
My mum is a huge Whoopi fan and I grew up watching a lot of her movies in the 80s and 90s. This is my go to film for when I want my spirits to be lifted up, it brings so much joy and the soundtrack is killer! Sister Act 2 is definitely worth your time, it’s the same yet very different.
The stage musical for Sister Act is really good. Highly recommend listening to the cast album. It's from Alan Menken, the songwriter for Aladdin, Little Mermaid, and Beauty and the Beast.
While Sister Act 2 isn't quite the film this one is, my general philosophy is if you have the opportunity to see Lauryn Hill perform, you should take it.
"Gangsters are always Catholic but they're ok with killing". We had to read Brighton Rock by Graham Green at school. The underlying theme is "nobody knows how to sin better than a Catholic".
Whoopi is a top tier actress! She's done some phenomenal screen work, from The Color Purple, to Jumpin' Jack Flash, and of course Ghost. I think this is her most fondly remembered film, and for good reason, but she really doesn't get enough credit for her acting overall.
The soundtrack for this movie is great, we sung it in my high school choir; we liked it so much, we did the soundtrack for sister act 2 in a later quarter.
Loved this movie as a child, happy to see it still holds up. Though reception at the time didn’t reflect it, I think most of us who were younger think that Sister Act 2 is even better. At the very least, I think the music is better. (And it stars a young Lauryn Hill as well) Hope you’re able to watch that one too
If you want to see Whoopi's acting skills at her best I recommend watching The Color Purple from 1985. It was her acting debut that won her a Golden Globe award for Best Actress as well as a Oscar nomination for Best Actress.
Yes! Do the sequel! It is also very enjoyable to watch. And I'm sure you'll recognize some familiar faces in that movie as well. My family and I watch both movies back-to-back. It's alot of fun to get together and sing along to the songs.
If this is the first time you’ve seen Whoopi act you need to see Sister Act 2 (the best sequel ever), Ghost (hilarious/sad), and The Color Purple (will make u cry)
Just have to add some love for the incomparable Mary Wickes as Sister Mary Lazarus. Truly one of the great character actresses of the Golden Age of cinema.
Definitely a classic and one you can watch so many times, I've certainly lost count! One of the few movies where the sequel is equally as good so you have to watch Sister Act 2!!
This made me SO HAPPY 😭 I've never seen a Sister Act 2 reaction, so if you're still interested two years later, you should definitely do it. I like it just as much as the first.
Whoopi Goldberg is an Oscar Winning Actress. She was nominated for Ghost in which she won, and she was nominated for The Color Purple in 1986. So she is one of the best actresses in Hollywood.
36:49 - well, you saw movies about Italian mob and Italian people are very religious, so it bleeds into the business dealings. But on the other hand, Mafia people are living under constant threat of death. And as they say "there are no atheists in a foxhole". Make sense them having something to pray to for luck and protection.
Actually this movie got high praise from Catholics at the time of its release for its accuracy and positive portrayal of its followers. That said, we are talking about nuns here so I imagine they have a stricter set of rules than your average Catholic on the street.
Not sure if anyone else has said this but Wendy Makkena (the actress playing Sister Mary Robert) was also in Camp Nowhere which is another amazing, hilarious comedy from the 90's! ☮️🎸💕
Oh if this is the first time you've seen her act, you definitely want to see her performance in "The Colour Purple". Highly recommend checking this one out. It's a classic by Spielberg. Also, I really REALLY loved her in "Jumpin' Jack Flash". It's in general a movie which is dear to me. But it's very underrated and rather forgotten tbh, so I can see why barely anyone covers it. :'3
If you like Sister Act 1 you'll love Sister Act 2 and if you want a little romance murder mystery you should check out the movie GHOST with Whoopi and the movie BOGUS that also has Whoopi bogus is a good family movie trust me they're both good movies
As I recall, the casino is supposed to be in Reno, Nevada, and the convent is in Oakland, California. They're about 4 hours apart by car, depending on traffic. And obviously less if you can arrange a private plane, as the nuns did.
So glad you’re enjoying the movie Mary, this is one of my favorites from when I was a little kid. I would curl up with my nan and watch this and the sequel with her, good memories
My mom loved this movie so much that she got other women from her church choir to dress up as nuns (they were Lutheran) and perform the songs from the movie.

First time you've seen her act? Haven't you watched GHOST???? She won an oscar for that role. You have to watch GHOST.
Mary if you want to watch a good movie with Whoopi Goldberg watch the movie called Ghost ❤️✌️😚
@@the_last_centurion she was one of the hyenas in The Lion King ✌️❤️
@@jeremystevens6640 I knew she was a voice actor but didn't know which character. I wouldn't have guessed one of the hyenas.
I'll add my recommendation for GHOST to this one. Whoopie does a great acting job and the movie itself is wonderful!
Part 2 is quite different but a solid sequel. It’s still got that feel good tone throughout. And who wouldn’t want more Dolores?
Looked at a couple comments about part 2 thinking, “Nobody’s mentioning Lauren Hill!!” Then I thought, “OMG I’m so old.” Still, Lauren Hill is great in Pt2.
Yes, Sister Act 2 is solid, I watched both part 1 and part 2 on packed theaters.
Sister Act 2 is just as good if not better, imo. I love the competition at the end.
I just read that Sister Act 3 is in the works...with Whoopi.
@@melthinks I didn’t know anyone was talking about a part 3 😱
It you haven't seen it, I'd recommend you watch "Ghost" with Whoopi Goldberg and Patrick Swayze. She won an Oscar for that role. Phenomenal job.
Whoopi, Swayze, and Demi...killer combo!
Yes
Oh absoultely, Ghost is incredible!
Really she did that's cool but I'd have given it to swayze for his performance or Demi Moore.
Yes
Sister Mary Patrick is portrayed by the great Kathy Najimy, voice of Peggy Hill from King of the Hill. She was also one of the witches from Hocus Pocus.
Whoa! I knew her for her comedy, but I didn't know she was Peggy Hill! Boy, it figures, though!
loved her in hocus pocus!
Oh yeah I thought she seemed familiar. Hocus Pocus would be a great one for the channel.
She and her family were also contestants on Family Feud!
She also played the Evil Queen in Disney's Descendants 😂 a hilarious version of that character 👏
Yes!!! No one reacts to Sister Act, this makes me so happy! I hope you'll watch the sequel.
Whoopi was an amazing actress in the late 80’s early 90’s. The Color Purple is a hell of a movie. Oprah, Whoopie, Danny Glover, Spielberg directing and Quincy Jones with the music. Not an easy watch though...
I second that motion.
Ghosts of Mississippi is another fantastic Whoopie film.
I was going to mention her Oscar for Ghost too. Good to see the comment is already here.
The first time I saw here in a movie when I was a kid was "Jumpin' Jack Flash" and she did great in that too. The years following to its release they used to show it on TV and I used to watch it every opportunity I had.
@@granadosvm I looooooove Jumpin' Jack Flash. Such an underrated gem.
The COLOR PURPLE is the greatest Whoopi Goldberg movie and one of the best Steven Spielberg movies.
FACTS!
100% It is a MUST watch!!! Such a fantastic movie.
I knew someone would bring this up! Watch it!
She got a best actress nom for her role in The Color Purple.
Uff color purple is one of the best acted movies ever. Definitely need a box of Kleenex when you watch.
Mary Cherry, you definitely need to do 'Sister Act 2' as good as 'Sister Act' was I kinda liked 'Sister Act 2' even more!
Definitely 2 is a great sequel. The music may even be better than the 1st.
It hits that sweet spot where the premise is similar, but different enough that it's not just a rehash.
Yeah. Would be great if Sister Mary Cherry would revisit for a sequel
Great cast of youngsters in the 2nd Lauren Hill and Jennifer Love Hewitt
Maggie Smith is great in this. She has some incredibly cutting insults on the sly and I love how she softens by the end.
Whoopi has always been a class act. For more of Whoopi doing some great acting - Fatal Beauty, with Sam Elliot.
that movie is hilarious
That was a good movie. She even had a catchphrase. 😏
After the Color Purple and Sister Act (s), I love her in Jumping Jack Flaah
The second one is just as wonderful as the first one. A few interesting things, some of the nuns in the choir have actually been on Broadway and also that is actually Whoopi singing, I look forward to you seeing the second one:)

Sister Mary Clarence gets roped back into her habit to help the sisters rehabilitate a failing high school - Deloris's old Catholic school.
This one's actually based on a true story - they just wrapped it into the Sister Act universe.
"Sister Act" is the clear winner of the two films. Disney Plus is working on "Sister Act 3" as well., so might be a good idea to do a trilogy.😀
A group of nuns is called a convent. A Covenant is an agreement.
According to the Oxford Dictionary a group of nuns is known as a "superfluity"
Whoopi is a great actor! Her cinema debut in The Color Purple shows a side we really don't see from her. I hugely recommend it!
Was just about to write this, if you want to see Whoopie act-act watch The Color Purple.
That movie breaks me every single time I watch it!
Fan of Sister Act 2 with a young Lauryn Hill and Jennifer Love Hewitt.
I thought the sequel was better than the first one.
That’s one of my all-time favorite movies! I always forget J-Love Hewitt is in it & she’s fantastic in it as well!
Jumpin Jack Flash is great!
The sequel was brilliant. It also featured a very young Jennifer Love Hewitt as one of the backup singers.
She didn't win the Oscar for The Color Purple. She won 5 years later for Ghost.
Nominated for the colour purple
I love Eddie! One of my favorite movies!
The Associate is really good too!
It's a well known fact that TCP, the cast or crew never won any awards when it came out. Nominations yes, but no wins.
Fun fact about "the pope loves it!" Hearing Maggie Smith say "boogey woogey on the piano" never gets old 🤣
"Men in Black" parts 1 through 3 should be your next series of films.
lida Johnson I second and third that !
No one should ever watch Men in Black 2.
As a former choir geek, you have no IDEA how incredible this movie is if you've spent any time in a church or a choir group... I'm so happy you enjoyed it!
The sequel to this, Sister Act: Back in the Habit is also really great. I highly recommend it. Much of the same cast plus new characters
Another good if not great Whoopie Goldberg film is "Jumping Jack Flash."
Your right! It's such an underrated fun movie
I was scanning the comments to see if anyone recommend this.
Shocked that you reacted to this as not many have, please do the sequel _”Sister Act 2: Back In The Habit”_ , musically on a whole notha level especially the singing 👍🏾👍🏾.
I was so gutted when I learned that it's not Mary Robert (ginger) signing.
Her singing voice is done by Andrea Robinson !
When auditioning for a role and asked if they can sing, *every* actor says yes, even if they can't.
Sadly, she was the only one in the cast that couldn't actually sing.
"Damn, I need the soundtrack to this movie." Oh yes girl, you do! :-)
If you loved Whoopi's acting in this you should totally watch The Color Purple
and Start Trek: The Next Generation too!
So yea that is Whoopi’s real voice. She’s actually one of few EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony) winners.
One of my favorite character actresses from the Golden Age of Hollywood musicals is here-Sister Mary Lazarus, the original choir leader, is played by Mary Wickes. Whenever she pops up in a movie, I am happy to see her.
Ironically, the actor playing Lieutenant Souther is named Bill Nunn.
Rest in Peace to this Brother!
The word you're looking for is "coincidentally"
You HAVE to watch the second film. The sequel is awesome as well. It may not have gangsters after the character, but it is still a solid film. And some amazing music as well. Don't worry, won't spoil the movie any more than that for you.

Mary Cherry Fun fact for you, Bette Midler was the original choice for the lead, I'm glad they chose Whoopi instead.
The sequel holds up! It's different than this one. It's definitely worth the viewing!!
The stage musical for Sister Act is really good. Highly recommend listening to the cast album. It's from Alan Menken, the songwriter for Aladdin, Little Mermaid, and Beauty and the Beast.
And Little Shop of Horrors!
While Sister Act 2 isn't quite the film this one is, my general philosophy is if you have the opportunity to see Lauryn Hill perform, you should take it.
In my opinion this is one of last few real wholesome movies ever made. Pure fun, and joy.
I'm so glad to have found someone who loves this movie as much as I do.
"Gangsters are always Catholic but they're ok with killing". We had to read Brighton Rock by Graham Green at school. The underlying theme is "nobody knows how to sin better than a Catholic".
Sister Act 2 was my favorite movie as a kid, it’s also the reason I learned to sing.
"Hell yeah...I mean...Heaven yeah!"
There's a fitting quote of the day.
Love Whoopi as Guinan in Star Trek: The Next Generation.
If you haven’t seen Whoopi’s acting, you gotta watch Ghost!
Agreed!
I loved her in that one lol
It was Patrick swazye that helped get whoopi that part, said he would quit the movie if she wasn’t cast
An excellent choice. I love this movie. It's one of my favorite childhood movies. The soundtrack is iconic.
Whoopi is a top tier actress! She's done some phenomenal screen work, from The Color Purple, to Jumpin' Jack Flash, and of course Ghost. I think this is her most fondly remembered film, and for good reason, but she really doesn't get enough credit for her acting overall.
She has, alas, not done a damn thing in the past 20 years. Her best showing was teenage Ninja mutant turtles.
Might I also recommend Corrina Corrina. Must watch along with The Color Purple. Not enough people remember these and they are fantastic!
The guy who plays Ernie (guy who gets shot at the start), is also in the Rocketeer
Personal connection fun fact: I'm a San Francisco native and I was baptized in that church
The soundtrack for this movie is great, we sung it in my high school choir; we liked it so much, we did the soundtrack for sister act 2 in a later quarter.
Oh honey, get yourself so Whoopi in your life! She’s actually incredible. Color Purple with Oprah was her first. It’s a tough movie but beautiful.
The Color Purple and Ghost are her other two classic movies. The Color Purple is a tear jerker.
Also Jumpin Jack Flash
Loved this movie as a child, happy to see it still holds up. Though reception at the time didn’t reflect it, I think most of us who were younger think that Sister Act 2 is even better. At the very least, I think the music is better. (And it stars a young Lauryn Hill as well)
Hope you’re able to watch that one too
Yes. While I very much enjoyed the first Sister Act, the sequel was MY JAM! Watched it sooo many times growing up.
This is such a comfort movie to me, and one that helped me learn english when I was little! The songs are all bops, glad to see you enjoying it too ^^
She was also in Ghost and Jumping Jack Flash.
If you want to see Whoopi's acting skills at her best I recommend watching The Color Purple from 1985. It was her acting debut that won her a Golden Globe award for Best Actress as well as a Oscar nomination for Best Actress.
By all means, watch the second one. Not the same mobster story but still uplifting and a lot of fun.
Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia ) was also a writer and a screenwriter during the 80s and the 90s. For that film, she did a pass to punch up the dialogs.
Whoppi is a well respected stand-up comedian.
Girl, Whoopi is a PHENOMENAL actress. Start with The Color Purple and work your way through her filmography.
Yes! Do the sequel! It is also very enjoyable to watch. And I'm sure you'll recognize some familiar faces in that movie as well. My family and I watch both movies back-to-back. It's alot of fun to get together and sing along to the songs.
The 2nd film is just as good if not better. I would recommend for sure!
If this is the first time you’ve seen Whoopi act you need to see Sister Act 2 (the best sequel ever), Ghost (hilarious/sad), and The Color Purple (will make u cry)
The nuns in my city actually went out to see this when it came out. They loved it!
"You don't earn other people's wife's fur coats," will always be my favorite quote from this movie.
one of my favorite movies of ALL TIME. i could watch this movie over and over again and never tire of it
Just have to add some love for the incomparable Mary Wickes as Sister Mary Lazarus. Truly one of the great character actresses of the Golden Age of cinema.
Omg she was huge in the 80's and 90's, you've got to check out more of her films! She was even in Star Trek!
Mary Wicks, Sister Mary Lazarus, was a wonderful comedienne whose career spanned several decades. She was known for her sarcastic wit.
Definitely a classic and one you can watch so many times, I've certainly lost count! One of the few movies where the sequel is equally as good so you have to watch Sister Act 2!!
You should watch her debut The Colour Purple also starring Danny glover and opera .it's a great movie but heads up I cry all the way through
First of all, your laugh! Love it! I feel your glee every time you giggle. 😊 It’s made a hard day better. next, You HAVE to watch the sequel.
This made me SO HAPPY 😭 I've never seen a Sister Act 2 reaction, so if you're still interested two years later, you should definitely do it. I like it just as much as the first.
U will LOVE Ghost. Whoopi (won an Oscar for Ghost!) Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore. It’s 100% your kinda movie, mama. It’s beyond up your alley.
Another vote for Sister Act 2
Sister act is actually one of the most accurate representations of the Catholic Church in cinema. It's beloved by all of us for sure!
Mafia guys are always Catholic because they are Italian. They are "ethnically" Catholic, not "religiously" Catholic, so to speak.
The music in Sister Act 2 was even better.
for a dramatic part the color purple. ghost is another drama/comedy part.
Watch the movie “Ghost” - Whoppie Goldberg’s best performance, she won an Oscar for it.
Yes... DEFINITELY watch part 2!! It's fantastic... better even. And Lauryn Hill is amazing!
Whoopi Goldberg is an Oscar Winning Actress. She was nominated for Ghost in which she won, and she was nominated for The Color Purple in 1986. So she is one of the best actresses in Hollywood.

Euphemism lol but yeah, I was thinking the same thing! 😂😂😂
Sister Act: A 1992 movie in which a church choir drags the Catholic church, kicking and screaming, into the early '60s.
You've got to watch the sequel. Good music too.
