I am anxious even when my brand stops producing one generation of shoes I am using and I have to try the newest one:-). So I almost admire the bravery when UA-camrs are doing these reviews of lots of shoes throughout the year! It would kill my feet and legs! So kudos, and thank you! It really helps. Actually fun fact: You and Ben Parkes already helped me choose shoes for trails (you) and road (Ben) respectively ;-).

Nice run! Great to see the campus and downtown Lafayette. I have a lot of great memories from my time there!

I typically will take the Rebel V2s up to 10 miles and they feel fine, but as fun as they are, they do need a very clean and controlled footstrike and, if possible, an even surface to run on. When the legs get tired or the terrain gets uneven for a bit (cobblestones etc.) they can cause issues, I'm not sure I'd want to run them for the HM distance or longer. Still an awesome shoe for sure.
Thx for putting the Naked band back on my radar, it does seem nice.

Good reviews, Ryan. Hope the PF has diminished by now. FWIW, I got fed up (no pun intended) with gel costs and found and then tweaked my own recepie for gel, made with bulk dextrose and sucrose and flavoring...very cheap and you can dial in the consistency/viscosity and flavor to match your own preferences. Happy to share if you are interested. Also have half a container in the fridge right now! Good to see all the familiar turf on your run!

Thanks Joe!! Still working it out, had it before and it lasted a long time. I’m doing what I can do to help with it, but it’s a hard one to get rid of!! Would love to hear your gel recipe, I’ve tinkered in the past but never found one I wanted make on a regular basis. Great to hear from someone that runs the same areas!

@@RyanClaytonFilms Here's the recipe...I concocted this years ago from info others did, trying to reproduce what's in a typical gel pack.
1/2 Cup Bulk Dextrose or Maltodextrin
      2 T Fructose
      1/4 t Salt
      1/4C water
1/2t vodka, gin or clear alcohol
1/4 t Lemon Juice (or any flavor you like)
Mix the three dry ingredients in a bowl. Bring the water to a simmer...hot but not boiling...just putting off a bit of steam. Add alcohol and flavor to water (alcohol is just to make the dry stuff dissolve better). Add the dry ingredients to the water in about 3 equal quantities, stiring constantly. Once it's all dissolved, pour into a bottle to use.
This makes about 4oz of gel, roughly 3 gel packs. Easily doubled or tripled if you want more.
The only thing going on here is to make a super-saturated suspension of the dextrose, fructose and salt that gets thick when cool. You can adjust the quantities to make it thicker or thinner, as you wish. A double recipe will fill an 8 oz bottle which will carry for a long time.
Dextrose or matlidextrin is available on line bulk. Same stuff as used in many home beer concoctions. Fructose is an alternate sugar that is sold in stores and on line. You can make this for maybe the equivalent of about a dime per gel pak.
      Hope this helps.

I felt a similar way to the Rebel v2, very comfy but so damn squishy; can’t tell if I like it for longer then 6 miles honestly.

I've switched my fueling to Scratch superfuel drink mix. Easy on the stomach, minimal taste and loads of carbs.

If Naked actually made a waist pack that was naked with no branding, I’d buy it in a heartbeat.

My V2's lost a little pep after 200 miles, looking forward to your impressions. Max distance I took them out on was 17 miles and felt good (but that was closer to fresh out of box)

I’m about at 200 on the V2. My current training plan has 2 hour runs which I’ve used these shoes. I find that they feel great for tempo and ~1 hour runs. Pushing beyond that I would agree with your sentiment. Kind of frustrated because I like the shoe and I’ve owned multiple pairs of the original rebels which were my tempo shoe. I feel like the V2 have an identity crisis and if anything should return to being a plated shoe aimed towards the uptempo run rather then a daily.

Nice change of pace from the trails Ryan...interesting to hear how you get on with Spring Energy's hydration fuel...I had serious issues with Tailwind in the past for similar reasons to the ones you mentioned.

I’ve had my naked band for almost 2 years and longer have had it more I use it and more I like it! You do have to be careful that you actually are putting an item in a pocket and not between the belt and your body and off to the ground it goes.

    • @RyanClaytonFilms
      @RyanClaytonFilms  3 роки тому +1

Yeah, that's the thing. If your calories are in your fluid, but you don't need to drink, you are in trouble. Hoping to find a good balance though

@@RyanClaytonFilms you should try the SpringEnergy Wolf Pack. Higher liquid content than most gels. Only thing I do not like I'd the large package

I completely eliminated the GI issues from gels by avoiding any and all fruit flavored ones. The coffee, chocolate, etc all work perfect for me. Possibly may work for you. Unfortunately the working flavors is brutal on hot days. Because let’s face it, who wants what feels like a tube of chocolate pudding in the summer 😭

Have you tried real foods in the beginning and then switch to gels? I can't drink my calories (stomach doesn't fair well) so I was told to eat as much "real foods" the first half of an ultra and switch to gels later to ease digestion. I make my own energy balls and eat peanut butter/honey wraps.
    Nice run Ryan!

I know this question isn’t relevant to this post, but for your marchway aid station bags, what size (in liters) are yours? I see size options for 10L - 40L on Amazon. Thank you man, I’m hooked on all your vids

I really like the feel of this Rival watch. It's a solid feeling watch but I just used it for a triathlon this weekend and it didn't seem to record everything perfectly 😬. Take care of the plantar buddy!

Interesting! That's a big feature that they've implemented, when they explained it I was pretty surprised to hear that it could breakdown each section. Also wondered about the 1 file upload to training peaks, that one didn't sound like it would be what you wanted.

@@killianwrn4257 - I mix and match brands frequently without much issue. If it were me, I'd look at the new Garmin 255 for $350. The Rival and the Bolt V2 does have a handoff feature that you might enjoy but if it were me, I'd still go with the 255. Best of luck with the tri season Killian!
