Really like my Rival - not too many features - just does what I want which is a core fitness tracker for activities I do and nothing else (have a Whoop for sleep and daily HR) One thing I wish it did do which I think Garmin does is backward sync of Zwift activities to it so when I look at my Swim, Bike, Run totals they are my actual ones and not just those recorded on the Roam/Rival (although I have been using the Kickr Passive to get some sort of number but a few km out)
Really wanted to go for the rival, as i am starting cycling and noticed i first need to work on my basic fitness. i seem to cramp up rather fast and need to pay attention on staying low on heart rate and be patient. I'm a bit dissapointed in missing features that could help me keep track of my fitness level. Vo2 max. Recovery time etc. On the other hand i have the kickr v5, roam, tickr, sensors and plan for a headwind fan so the rival makes sense. It now costs about 200euro and i wonder what disadvantages i would have going for example for a garmin forerunner 45 or 245.
Thanks for the vid. Just got my Rival today. Any idea on how to receive the updates? Watch is connected with the app but Elmnt Version stands at 1.1.41 lacking all the latest updates (music, alarm clock etc.).
Tried this in duathlon multi sport mode with my wahoo ELEMNT bolt, and the results were not good. The transmission between the watch and the bolt cut out continuously, so I couldn’t see any data for minutes at a time. The worst part of all, it failed completely to auto detect the transition from the bike to run. Not at all. The run never recorded, and simply just gave me a ridiculously long T1 time. While this feature sounds cool, it just can’t be trusted. I’m going to continue to use the watch in run mode only.
What on earth is a year’s supply of sunglasses? Am I supposed to wear them and then eat them or something? My normal rate is a new pair of sunglasses about every 5 years so would I get one fifth of a pair?
A year's supply eh? OK...I usually sit on at least one pair in a year....they generally survive but never sit properly thereafter. I have parked the occasional pair on my forehead and dropped them in the workshop or swiped them off the bench - kept working at what I was doing with the intent of....ahhh there they are ! ...under my workboot. And the classic...finished a ride....sunglasses on the roof...the reverse turn out skidded them off the back and the opposite turn out to depart ...against all odds and what I would have thought was against the laws of physics...a rear wheel tracked directly over them and totally destroyed them. The workshop glasses were el cheapos...the on the roof glasses were $800 multi everything Adidas Sports Glasses. My response was not pretty. If you heard a primal scream at 3:16pm on a Wednesday in July last year.....
2 or 250, who is saying so can’t get through 249 pairs of sunglasses in a year - who the heck wears sunglasses more than once when riding - they are disposable right!?
Hi Shane, do you have any new information about pairing the rival watch with power2max powermeter. Did recent firmware updates solve the issue you mentioned in your review. Thanks Andreas
Just purchased this watch and so far I like it. I would like it a little more if I could set up reminders/alerts to fuel during a triathlon. Do you know if this is a feature already?
I finished the challenge today and then clicked on redeem which led me to a webpage where I put my email address, but I didn't get the survey link, would you please post it?
The rival is "getting better". Some of the things they are doing are pretty smart. Overall...still on the fence since I don't want to pay the adopter tax so Garmin has a competitor.
Shane do you think the Rival is worth it right now? Im torn between the forerunner 745 and the rival. I do want to love the rival, but I'm concerned that this thing is a massive disappointment....
It really depends what features you value/use. Like the bike computers from both companies, they both do the core functionally well. If you want simplicity in setup/config, Wahoo. If you want more in-depth features and use Garmin Connect, Garmin.
Shane, wondering if you can suggest a bike computer? Tried the Karoo 2 however it kept dropping my Varia radar on nearly 50% of rides so it is gorn! Do not need anything too fancy - just a reliable unit. The screen & touch of the Karoo 2 were nice however (My first ever computer as new to cycling) thanks.
@@miksterr That leaves Wahoo and Garmin in the option pool then. If you like touch screens then that rules out Wahoo. Now it's down to budget. The flagship Edge unit is the 1030 Plus. The alternate is the smaller 830 (also touchscreen).
I have a lot of road wheelsets here already. What I am interested in is a set of 650b wheels for my gravel bike to bounce around on and see how it performs with those. The 650B Wheel G25 / XDR would be the ones.
Pro-tip :: Always dab your HR strap with a bit of water before putting it on. Good HR reading from meter-0.
And my chances of winning just plummeted..
Thanks, Lama!
I was super excited when i hear about the 250 watches - but didn't realize i already joined that challenge X-D

Loved the Oakley stab 😂

Same for me, update 1.40.57 is installed, i looked everywhere, impossible to find how to get the other updates, thats really not well done from Wahoo

Hi Shane is this watch compatible with zwift run?

The Rival still does things differently with pairing. I haven’t seen any changes since launch in how it does sensor pairing.
Where can i Update the Watch? Can‘t find the point in the App or in the Watch .

I don't believe so. That's one for Wahoo Support for an official response (and to let them know it's a feature you want)

(Enter the Strava competition and if you win, you're paying no adopter tax! 🤣)
How do I update my wahoo rival? I really want my alarm clock function but don’t know how
It should update automatically when paired with the Elemnt mobile app.
Has the winners for MyRival challenge been announced?
Apparently we didn't win if they have. 🤷🏻♂️
I just got my rival today and I can’t get it into the latest firmware. No option to update on watch or companion app. Anyone any ideas??
It’ll occur automatically when connected to wifi and/or the Elemnt app.

@@gplama Thank you for your reply. I just ordered a Rival. I want to stay within the Wahoo ecosystem and hope for future updates.
How do I hide a new watch from my wife?
"Oh, this? It was on special at Aldi..... next to the chainsaws"
When the hell is the new Bolt coming out?
Which country? If you're a raging Aussie, it's Monday I'm told.
@@gplama lol yes. Thanks Shane

hello, would you like try to test our carbon wheels ?please tell me if you need carbon wheels to equip your bike
I will test some for you. Mike
Sure. I love carbon.

Something tells me ICAN are going to be busy shipping lots of wheels if their offer is open to everyone! :)
Do you need my details?
Are you being paid by Wahoo for this?
No. I get paid by UA-cam for the ads they show on this video.
Another great video Shane, it would be an honour to have you and Von follow me on 'Strava' please :)
'Strava' ?
@@RustyRacer Strava is a route planning website/phone app
I see I am still the 1 “st” ;)
1nd is still up for grabs! 🤣
