Dearest Hannah, you are so far from basic that if you were a science experiment, you would be an ACID!!!! Bright, lively, stunningly beautiful, and DEEP. You don’t need makeup, and you’re secure enough to buck social norms! You have CHOSEN your life! You didn’t fall into it. You were pursuing your own life, and saw something else you recognized as your path, and went for it. You are an excellent example to any one about what real true freedom looks like. Thanks for sharing your beautiful life with everyone.

I love your videos! I am a Christian married to a non religious Jewish man. He was a widower when we met I was a divorcee. We love how we have accepted and live totally harmoniously with each others religions. We used to have a house in Israel in the Jordan valley and I am so grateful to have spent many incredible holidays there. My husband took me to so many important places like the Kottel where I always pray. Mount of Olives to his father's grave, Dead Sea, Sea of Galilee, and so many more. He took to so many Old Testament sites that were so special. I love and respect all the special customs like Shabbat, Yom Kipar. We have a mezzuzah at our front door and I decorate for Christmas. It works!

Heya! I haven't watched for ages and just heard you've had a baby firefly since I was last here. Mazel Tov! I had a really dark period of my life a while ago and I'm not sure why but your videos gave me so much hope and joy during that time. I wanted to say thank you! Maybe because I see how much your spirituality fulfills your daily life,it gives me confidence that if I keep my eyes on God , He too will get me through the dark times (even though I'm not Orthodox Jew). Keep shinning beautiful!

Thank you for sharing this. I found Chana's videos during a very bad time in my life. Even though I have a church and faith, it was watching these videos that helped me.

To the mom with the baby and toddler who is at burnout…I feel ya! My husband and I both work full time outside the house with a 2 year old and 4 year old. I have leaned and accepted that in this point in our lives, things will be left undone and I have to take time for myself. Tonight, for example, I have prob 4-5 baskets of clothes to fold and put away. But I had a super long day at work and folding laundry was the last thing I wanted to do. So I sat and watched this video and then a couple of episodes of Will and Grace. Totally worth it! Clothes are clean and we can live out of laundry baskets for a few days. Now, this didn’t come easy for me. Two years ago I wouldn’t have been able to go to bed until I got all the laundry folded and put away. But I gradually listened to my husband who kept telling me “it will always be there tomorrow.” I hope you can get some time to yourself to help with the burnout!

I have been to the Dead Sea and it was wonderful.
There were pools of the salt water at the hotel. Warmed up. Healing for skin and spirit.
This is where I learned about elevator protocol on Shabbat!

We went to Israel last september and it remains as one of my most favorite trips. We spent 3 weeks seeing it all and meeting amazing people from Akre, tel aviv, jerusalem, the western wall, masada, bethlehem( we were with 1 person who was not jewish and this was somewhere she really needed to see, it was quite amazing) i could go on and on. We did go to the Dead Sea, it was not first on my list and yes very touristy but just the experience of getting into that very warm salty blue water and feeling that mud and floating....its amazing...you need to do it once. Make your trip eventuallly and make sure you take enough time to really enjoy all the areas. ! We were invited to a shabbat dinner in a very very orthodox neighborhoood and it was so very amazing. We did travel around and saw Haifa, and many other areas too...plus we took an excursion out to Jordon to see Petra.

I retired as a Sexual Assault Counselor and one thing pounded into us was Self Care. It’s very important to stay “sane” in order to be of help to family, friends or in my case strangers. Mom’s suffer from guilt when having alone time but your “20 minutes” is a perfect example of self care.

Hey, Chana! I would love to see how you set up your reading journal. I have a Kindle and download books to read before lights out. I get stuck in one genre & can't seem to move around. This journal idea might work for me. We survived Hurricane Hilary with just tons of rain and no other issues like mud slides, etc. We are lucky to live in a pretty safe area where that is concerned. We did, however, have an earthquake yesterday at the same time as the downpour! LOL That was fun. Mother Nature was pretty grumpy for some reason. Fun Q&A. Looking forward to next time! Hugs! 💚

Chana, I went on the birthright trip to Israel over 10 years ago and all the places you mentioned were wonderful! I’m with you on the Dead Sea though.. it was super touristy and not necessary. I did enjoy my day there though as my trip was a lot of hiking and active days so the Dead Sea was kinda relaxing. It is cool how you float in it and healing for the body so if you are nearby and it fits in to your schedule take an hour or 2 there.

We spent a week in Jerusalem last June, it was truly an amazing experience. We did visit the Dead Sea and I would recommend going there, the mud is cleansing and it's such a unique experience. There are spots that are not as "touristy" and it also depends on the time of the year. We spent a weekend in the desert at Succah in the Desert, it's close to the Ramon Crater and Mitzpe Ramon. We also spent a couple of days in Tel Aviv and loved Jaffa Port, the bazaars, beaches, food etc. Would love to visit the north of Israel, next time.

I'm doing the 5x5 challenge this year after you talked about it. One of the sections I picked was fantasy & I'm struggling as most fantasy I just don't really enjoy I can't seem to get pulled into the story. I've done well with biographies. I would like a book journal flip through.
To the person with a baby & a toddler - that is way WAY more exhausting than having older kids who go to the bathroom on their own or will go off and play and ignore you. It gets easier but it was the hardest stage of motherhood for me.

My husband and I just did a 2 week trip to Isreal to visit my friend who moved to Ashkelon. We so enjoyed our trip. It was very busy!! It was at the tail end of Ramadan and into the Passover. We visited Jeusalem, the Temple, Western Wall, Dead Sea(you NEED to go and float in the sea) Engedi, Masada, and lots more places. Its was truly a trip of a lifetime. I hope you get to go soon. What town was your husband from?

    Dear Hannah,
First of all I want to say that it feels so good to see a wonderful woman like you who chose to become Jewish when so much people hate us.
I am the daughter of holocaust survivors and my parents told me all about their journey during the war. They were just children, then, and my grand parents were taken by the French police, not the German. Lots of French to that day are still very anti-Semitic, the reason we emigrated to the United States, not perfect but better, so far...
As for the teaching of the Holocaust, I took my daughters to Yadvashem in Jerusalem. One was 13 and one only 12. It was very difficult but after that, anything else to talk about this tragic era, look easier.
As for the Dead sea, I would say that there is no life in and around the Dead sea. It is atrociously scorching hot, and everything is covered with white salt. This is just a curiosity and people really want to try sitting on the water; definitely no swimming possible.
Just another question: I am going to the Chabad ( not that i am really like them: just enjoying their shul and kindness; they really make you feel part of the family!) Anyway, very religious group, part of the orthodox, but all the women there wear wigs, even the Rabbit's wife! Why the scarf choice vs the wig? Would you wear a wig on certain occasions and why or why not?

    • @jaroffireflies
      @jaroffireflies  10 місяців тому +1

Hello! Thank you for your kind words and sharing your experience. For your question about the wig. I do have one but rarely wear it. I much prefer scarves for comfort and because personally I think it’s better to cover my hair that way (this is personal and I would never tell anyone how to cover their hair, it’s very multifaceted).

When I went to Israel way back in 2000
I had friends who lived there and got to see even “non-touristy “ places. The Dead Sea is interesting and fun to float in because you can’t sink because of all the salt but it’s what’s near the Dead Sea that I loved like Masada, En gedi and Kumran and the Dead Sea Scrolls.

I'm a day late, but I've been to Israel! I did a birthright trip after highschool. I went for 10 days and it was AMAZING. I've been itching to go back.
We went to the Dead Sea, and it was a pretty cool experience, but definitely can be skipped. I had a better time at the beaches of Haifa. I also strongly suggest climbing Mount Masada. It's also semi touristy, but AMAZING. Do it at sunrise and it will 100% change your life. The Shuks are really great as well. Not a spot, but drink the orange juice. LOL!

I visited Israel a couple of times and what i really loved was the view from Masada to the dead sea. I've been in the water and didn't enjoy it, the water is not refreshing at all and bites. And there are dangerous sinkholes around. Creepy region. However the Negev is fascinating.

Seems to be some interest so I will try to put together a book journal video this year :) As for the meat and dairy, we don't eat them together and after eating meat we wait 6 hours. Some wait less, but 6 is pretty standard. Its just our tradition. It comes down from the Oral Torah and the Written Torah.

FWIW, in my experience with a "Conservaform" synagogue (somewhere between Reform and Conservative), we definitely know and respect the halacha but interpret some of the guidelines differently (e.g., mixing meat and dairy, or how work is defined on Shabbat)--I feel fortunate because my rabbi grew up devoutly Orthodox and is also a professor of Jewish studies, so he definitely understands the halacha and gives us various interpretations of them from scholars, so we can make an informed decision about how to observe them.

If you go to Masada it’s extremely nice just going and maybe relaxing by the Dead Sea afterwards especially if you use the snake Path and not pay for the cable cars. Ein Gedi which is also in tge area is nice to visit if you up to any type of hiking/water hiking and maybe having to deal with other groups
