Yes Kevin was a boxer trained by the legendary Cus D’Amato. Cus “discovered” Tyson & died at age 77, 9 months into Tyson’s pro career. Rooney trained Tyson, loved him & protected him. Don King resented that relationship & destroyed it because neither Rooney nor Tyson were sophisticated enough to prevent it. Dumbest decision Tyson made (on top of screwing things up with Teddy Atlas). I freaking hate Don King so much. One of the most terrible human-beings to ever walk.
Tyson definitely behaved like a traitor to the D'Amato team. He couldn't confront people who had right principles starting with Teddy Atlas, and then Rooney and Claiton. He chosed ex-criminal Don King.
@ Tyson could reconcile with Rooney and Bill before he died. He even asked Teddy Atlas for forgiveness occasionally when he met him on a boxing event. Tyson was young and etc but he did what he did to Rooney, Bill and other guys who were his family. And Tyson understands that that's why he couldn't confront meet to Rooney, Bill. You may lesson to Steve Lott's opinion in his interviews who was in D'Amato team.
Tyson never had the discipline to handle to Women, Money & the likes of Don King. He was just kid, with the majority of society wanting to see his demise
I can only imagine what Tyson would say to 90% of these comments, which seem to suggest that Kevin Rooney contributed to some of Mike's success. Kevin could've been replaced by anyone who goes on early morning runs. And they all fought the peep a boo style and Mike knew it better than them all and didn't need Rooney teaching him, Tyson actually connected better with Teddy Atlas than Kevin Rooney. Kevin was in the right place at the right time and became part of team Tyson because his own career sucked. Now Rooney carries the same air of entitlement that has our whole country going up in flames, Mike wasn't his boy and Tyson''s career would've been the same with or without him.
WRONG! His skills started to erode in the first Bruno fight. Compared to when they were starting to peak in the Tubbs fight. The Spinks fight should of never happened! There was a sincere bond within the original team. Tyson Read The Fire and the Fear by Jose Torres. The country is in flames because criminals who don't give a fuck about George Floyd ,you , me , or anyone else hijacked the protest.
So your trying to say tyson splitting with rooney and signing for king had no effect on his career. Catch yourself on you idiot. The sad thing is, the only one who wouldve followed in Cus footsteps was Rooney. He learned Cus style of Peekaboo and was enhancing mike as a pro as Cus would have wanted. These Leaches dragged mike away. King pure brainwashed Mike into not needing Rooney anymore and that he will make more money under Cus and Tyson was an emotional young man who was easy to manipulate... its sad because as soon as Mike went with King’s trainers he was no longer Mike. He stopped slipping his head, he would only occasionly do an inside slip which he oponents started to read.. he completely stopped bobbing n weaving.. Cus used to tell him always “move your head Mike” and most importantly Mike stopped using both hands. He tried looking for that KO punch all the time which was the opposite style of the Young mike who threw ferocious combination on the inside punches in bunches and shifting using footwork for angles... he stopped all of that and just tried landing a leaping left hook in all his fights.. its sad because we look at a “prime” tyson now as the one who beat Berbick n spinks but Mike shouldve evovled from that and turned into a different breed of boxer from mastering the Peekaboo and gaining knowledge from previous fights. I honestly beleive if he stayed with Rooney and rooney was motivated and they continued to work hard together, Mike couldve been the best boxer of all time or at least levelling the best of all time... but life had other plans for Mike.... either way im just happy for Mike that he sorted himself out now and left that toxic enerrgy behind.. mike is a beautiful man now and i think Cus would be proud of where Mike is now in life.. he has found his peace and just wants to grow his soul.
I agree Rooney would have been the only one to keep Mike on track . Although Teddy Atlas knew the style , just as well as Rooney . And could have done the same . But his relationship was damaged with more than Rooney .

Who is there that can say they were still hanging with the same group from when they were 14 ?
EVERYONE gets bored and goes in different directions growing up. Just saying
bigdaddy4069
Good point. And also worth mentioning is the huge fame/spotlight put on Tyson at a very tender age. Hard for a lot of people to deal with, especially an angry kid from the streets who had a crap upbringing like Tyson.
Maybe Kevin shouldn't have filled lawsuit
Don stole his fighter, Mike left either way
Well Rooney won and was awarded $4.4 million
Mike Tyson ou l'homme qui avait détruit sa carrière.
They were all like a family till the money came...
Everyone knows tyson went downhill big time as soon as he split with rooney. Tyson broke his contract with rooney , so he should have a sense of entitlement for the work he put in.
@@derryboyo must be white boy
@@perkinsvalentine is that your comeback?
@@perkinsvalentine Yeah his career worked out real good when he turned to "black boys"... You must be black xD
This was a very big mistake from Mike.
Tyson cut his own throat sacking Rooney … enter the road to destruction Tokyo Feb 11 90
Don king manipulated Tyson's young mind at that time and destroyed his career
Rooney was worth more money if he could keep mike winning
It's true that Tyson Is a great boxer...but he said Clearly that he was a bad person...all of us surfers abusement...in the third Worlds that Is not a good reason to participante in bad behaviour...he was in the Fisrt World at that point, so what was the problem???
Great boxer...Bad person???
So sad to see both there potential waste cause of don king and a little bit of robin givens
this arrangement to get rid of Rooney was the beginning of the downfall of Mike Tyson!!! Shame.
Tyson screwed Rooney
Tyson still not man enough or smart enough to publicly apologize to Rooney and Cayton for what he did. Maybe bc that one decision screwed up his life badly.
Ummm Bill Cayton passed away in 2003 and Rooney has dementia.
@@elitecasting5391 Is that true about Rooney having dementia now?
i saw it on wikipedia. But that's not a reliable source.
@@elitecasting5391
Funny you mention that. I just watched a 2012 interview with Rooney and he was clearly struggling with speech. Are you sure it's dementia or the effects of boxing?
2 million. Joke
what you mean?"
@@jaypaige7550 Rooney was getting $2 million a fight. Then successfully sued Tyson for $4 million.
@@owencampbell8799 Oh i see , he would had made a lot more if Tyson didn't breech the contract . Damn i didn't know the trainers was getting paid that much.
@@jaypaige7550 The only sport that doesn’t have a union. (Maybe UFC as well) The Boxer is the last one to get paid. Not nice.
Most of what you say is right. However there is still Tom Patti; Billy White and George Young continuing the legacy of Cus's system aka Peek A Boo !
💯 agree
Couldn't have said it better, well said
Well said and accurate.
I agree Rooney would have been the only one to keep Mike on track . Although Teddy Atlas knew the style , just as well as Rooney . And could have done the same . But his relationship was damaged with more than Rooney .
Rooney was the last to try protect Tyson from girls, drugs, alcohol and the evil don King.. it's so sad how It turned out. Mike never spoke about Kevin in 32 years, sign of guiltiness and remorse.
Yes that right, mike never again talk about kevin . Im just curious if someone asq to him
@@Xavi-TenisHe knows he fucked up those situations so I doubt it. To be young and rich and than old and a little bit wiser, you live with a little resentment towards yourself for pass decisions.
Kevin Rooney is not just an amazing trainer but a truely honourable man.
I guess......isnt that just normal, to want to try to do the right thing and be a decent human being?
@@SA77888yeah...no one said otherwise
It΄s really disappointing the fact that these two men gone die having this great story, and this sad conclusion.
I agree w you 1000%... what could have been. Best they can do now is make amends
Jay Bright was worthless. He didnt have an Enswell for the fight with Buster Douglas. So they put cold water in a rubber glove that looked like a condom. Tyson was a real tough boxer to corral in his younger days. I bet if Iron Mike got real, he would admit Cayton and Rooney had a higher regard for him as a human being than Don King.....
100% agree , Bright may have been around Cus , but he was not the trainer Rooney or Atlas was . Worthless to even have him .
He is right if he had of stayed with cayton he would of made 300 million more.cayton was already independently rich and always got the best deals for mike.they actually set up a retirement fund for Tyson.not sure if that is still around
Tyson's career dived after King got rid of Rooney.
Funny how Mike and Kevin have the same voice. 😂😂. Both legends. Thanks for the memories gentlemen. What a ride it was.
Only 1 man with a high pitched lisp is permitted in the Tyson camp
Tyson looked shit since he left Rooney
i feel that cus and rooney felt so confident with the superiority of tyson that it must have resembled like the manhattan project in ww2. they knew that what they had in theyere hands was so powerfull and overwhelming that it could change the whole game totaly. It must have been a special feeling and a rare event that you have the answer in a game where everybody is just guessing. Man only to wish for such power. Many think they have it but only few realy do.
He talks like Mike lol
Hey folks ! Good book to read is Fire and Fear by Jose Torres. Talks about the fraternity of Cus Damato acolytes. Cayton and Jimmy Jacobs were part of the inner group. Tyson was destined for greatness if he stayed with the original group!
How did the thing between Tyson and Rooney go? Was it that Don King got in between?
I have a contract. I have a contract...
Kevin Rooney is right! End of story
Say Mike Honor"s The 3yrs Left In The Contract...He Was 38 - 0 !!!! Pretty Sure Mike Would Of Broke Marciano"s Record, Been Undefeated & Would Have Been Up To Him If Continued On !!!! His Fight"s $$$$ Wise Would Have Been Astronomical & Would Have Beaten Holyfield, Lennox, Bowe, Would Of Had All His Money !!!! , No Rape Charge, A Serious Shame All Around That Jacob"s At Such Young Age Had To Pass !!!!....
The best trainer ever !!
The best trainer IRON Mike Tyson ever had!
Better than Teddy Atlas? He and Mike would have made a great duo for years to come, if that wasn't messed up before Tyson's career officially began.
Kevin rooney looks similar like UFC DANA white.
Lol
damn shame tyson let rooney go. even bigger shame associating with the wrong ppl ie givens & king. but tbh he had achieved everything in boxing by this stage. and at only the age of 22 ie become the champ, then undisputed, then beat the longstanding champ of the 80s Holmes, then beating the lineal champ spinks. nothing else to achieve & no one left to beat.
