For many years TV crews used DS estate's at all the British horse racing tracks for their cameras to film from. There was no better car because of their ultra smooth level suspension over the undulating ground around the circuits.
Brilliant. When the imagination runs wild and the backyard engineering provides. What a complement from the extrapolation of Citroën design cues. Vive le France!
Love everything about the DS , can't believe so little mentioned about the most famous of this bunch. At 2:17 you see Gene Winfield's Reactor, a fully hand formed kustom built in '65 and riding on a '56 DS suspension. It spent quite a bit of time on tv in the 60's. In Bewitched it was called the Reactor II, in Star Trek the Jupiter 8, Mission Impossible it went unnamed and in Batman it was the Cat mobile.
The Citroen DS was the car of choice to modify because of it's self-levelling suspension. The modified body would ride at the correct height front and rear even if one hadn't got the weight distribution right. If the new body was heavier one could have the spheres pressures increased with additional nitrogen so that the suspension would not bottom out.
@ 1:07, it was a Henri Chapron carboy stylist and maker model, that was actually on the price list. Henri Chapron has made for years the official cars for French Presidents in the 60s and 70s
The vehicle at 2:20 is a custom car designed and fabricated by Gene Winfield here in the US. All the body panels were hand formed, NOT modified parts. The suspension and differential were from a DS. Until seeing this video I never realized that the front of the body does have lines simular to a DS.
I know im randomly asking but does anyone know of a tool to log back into an instagram account? I was dumb lost the account password. I would appreciate any help you can give me.
@Dayton Arjun Thanks for your reply. I got to the site on google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
@@colinfrith The car carriers were built , yes, but not the Vans, mentioned by datathunderstorm in the previous comment to whom I was replying. The ones shown at 054 to 1 05 were photoshopped.
@@brettsalter3300 no, they were built, the Michelin one for Michelin, I already had this discussion on Facebook a couple of years ago, and the popular concensus is that the are real vans, but let's be quite clear, I have not seen them with my own eyes in real life, but I do believe they are real!
@@colinfrith Well,OK . My suspicions were because of a whole series of vans like this made, using a 57 Chevy, a 1950s Buick and the Citroens shown. I actually really hope they are real. All the more beauty in the world.
Why was it so popular? I guess front wheel drive is east to modify and few large cars were front wheel drive at the time. Maybe with the hydropneumatic suspension it was possible to modify a lot and still have a halfway decent comfort. Or the design just inspired the imagination

OH MY WORD that green minivan green citroen looking like a humback whale what a beauty .in many classic cars you see the time and love that were invested in it .these day's it apears that cars are desinged with time and love but it's not every car that come's out since the90.s looks the same as any other car manufacturer .it's saddens me to see that funcionality has taken over to desing.you only see desing more important when they come out with 1 concept car when then produced has absolutely no features except for the well hidden features that nobody will ever see underneath the skin
The1200sportster i guess it depends what you are comparing it to. Its not like owning an old Aston or Ferrari and all the spares are readily available. I've owned a few French cars and had them serviced and repaired in France....fraction of the cost of the UK and there is a huge aftermarket for spares etc.
En France il est impossible ou presque de faire ça. Ce pas pour des raisons techniques mais administratives... Faire accepter des modifs de ce type aux Mines est une gageure !
Rode in a DS in the late '60s; still the most comfortable car I've ever ridden in.
You know life is good when you’re hauling your AC Cobra with your flat bed Citroen.
A Citroen DS van would be the best of both worlds. A great car and a luxurious home in one.

What a great looking car this was.
And the music is pretty good too

I think the two after 0:55 could have been a great success, if they were on the market, no joke, they still have an elegance, and not outdated
No entiendo porque este auto tan versatil y precioso no haya progresado en el mercado .
più versatile di così.... impossibile!
Magnifique 👍 toutes c'est automobiles d'une autre époque.
Mon enfance quoi.
Love the Van's.

The vans absolutely blew my mind! Extremely beautiful....and oh, so out of this world 👽
Unfortunately photo-shopped.
Those vans were NOT photoshopped, they were made by famous French coachbuilders TISSIER

Music theme?
0:55 and 1:00 What model is?.I likes this van.
DS Tissier van, it was made in the factory to look like something out of 'Yellow Submarine'.
Fare un bel viaggio per piste e dune del Sahara cavalcando la DS gialla 4x4 dalle ruote giganti! Figata!!!
Innovative but sacrilege.
La fiera del cattivo gusto!
0:46 wasn't customized, that came from the factory
0:57-1:02 TIBURÓN BALLENA!
tam buejnos autos y con esas transformaciones......
I have made my own drawing for the DS by shortening it in length and removing the rear doors.

Jincheng Zhang - Creep I Love You
Some of them I thought were cool but with most of them I thought "Why would anyone do that?"
2:12 may just be the most bitchin car ever!
Most represent a hideous butchery of an iconic design
Oh dear.... Some owners are utterly clueless.

Ds la légende
So nice.but Wich ones are real and Wich are just Photoshoped?
All real
@@HenriBourjade Merci ✌️🌷
