34:12 He said he gave something beautiful back, so I don't think he was going to lock up Caroline. He wanted to keep her pure and innocent. When he found the tiger photo in Patrick's locker and thought it was Caroline, he killed him for presumably spoiling her. BTW, Caroline said at some point she always felt somebody was watching over her.
There were a few films that came out during the 2020 covid madness that just completely went under movie goers radar - THE KID DETECTIVE, LOVE AND MONSTERS, and SPONTANEOUS.
The grape soda was Gracie's favorite. If you go back and watch, she was always drinking it, even as Abe's secretary. Also, the Principal's words were that "She lost her spirit.". He never said she died, just that he broke her spirit.
I saw this 3 times when it came out. There was 1 guy in the theater with me at 1 of the screenings, and the other 2 ended up being just me. Theaters had just opened back up, and nobody had any clue what to expect. This flick was worth going out to see every time for me. The dark twist I can see turning people off, but I still really like it.
One thought I had after one of my other screenings was how accurate was his memory as a child? We all have memories that have probably gotten more inaccurate over time, and there were several references to his memory not being the most accurate thing of his peak detective years.
I’m so glad you’re watching this movie 😊 it’s such an under-seen gem. I hope it finds its audience Special thanks to you, the spin wheel, and the person who chose this movie 👍
I love this film. I like to the think that the final scene with Abe indicates that he is beginning to grieve and process all the pain and trauma he’s been avoiding. Great reaction!
Abe was probably thinking why didn’t he figure it out sooner, why couldn’t he have saved her sooner to keep her from going through all this trauma and what’s going to be come of her and now this girl finds out the missing girl was her mother and the school principal is a monster and is also her father… No wonder this guy was crying at the end of the movie!! He solved the case but there’s no happy ending..
Can’t believe you guys are watching this wonderful, barely-known movie. I just watched it a couple months ago after hearing Mike and Jay at RLM recommend it. Kudos to your Patreon for his choice!
Loved this flick. I saw it after reading some article recommending it and practically had to force my friends to see it. I was happy to see that there is still room for small, well-done films in this blockbuster, sequel-ridden, existing-IP climate.
So glad you guys did a reaction to this film. I’ve always loved Brody so I just bought the bluray when I heard about it. It’s such a great little film that I wish more people would discover.
I missed seeing it in the theaters (it only had a 1 to 2 weeks run in my area, 2020 lockdown era). I did purchase it on Blu-ray when it was released, and it lived up to my expectations. There are too many "good movies" that do not get talked about.
I only heard of this movie when randomly listening to the mark hoppus podcast. Where Adam Brody was the guest. I’ve liked him since the o.c days and I think he truly is an underrated actor. I hope he gets some more good roles in the future.
So glad you reacted to this. I knew this was coming out and wanted to see it and it was still hard to find a way to see it. 2020 bring what it was. So not a big surprise it didn’t get on a lot of people’s radar. Sophie Nélisse who played Caroline was in a really good movie as a kid called Monsieur Lazhar from 2011. It’s in French and from Canada so maybe not something for the channel but it’s about a teacher coming to a class dealing with a tragedy. She’s so good in it.
When 'If...' won the Schmitt Wheel I went out and watched it and it's two sequels in preparation, now I know why it never appeared, but like yourselves I never heard of this one and really liked it. One of many low key under appreciated gems out there. I guess the winner got me to first time watch 4 movies, good job that man lol. Schmitt Wheel is more or less an ass kicking success.
I heard about The Kid Detective first time from the Red Letter Media video. From time to time they dug up some great recent overlooked movies, another great one I discovered that way is Dinner in America, also from 2020...
So weird that you reviewed this movie. I never heard of it and then my cable company added several obscure movie channels featuring non mainstream movies one of which was this. I thought I was the only one that saw it because I couldn't discuss it with anyone in my circle. Cool that you two did too now.
Thanks to the patron for recommending this. Really liked it and it's great to see Adam Brody playing a character that's not a version of Seth Cohen like he did in Mr. And Mrs Smith.
Oh wow, not only have I not watched anyone else react to this, i've never even met anyone else that's _seen_ it :). Great little indie mystery IMO, knows its strengths and wisely plays to them. (good movies don't always find an audience for all kinds of reasons of course but I have to assume this would've done at least _somewhat_ better if it hadn't been released during the pandemic)
Thank you so much, @iliketostayhome!! Thank you, guys, too!! I paused your video right at the beginning and watched "The Kid Detective" before coming back to watch the rest. I loved the movie, and I loved your movie reaction as usual!! 😉👍
I would have really appreciated a reaction to “if…” as I think Malcolm McDowell is a very special, underutilized talent. But I’m excited for this movie reaction too!
If Samantha is into the detective/mystery/investigation genre, I'd suggest two TV series Monk and Elementary. They are probably not worthwhile doing on the channel, but definitely recommend watching in your own time. Another good, recent, largely unknown movie from this genre is "To Catch a Killer" (aka Misanthrope) from 2023.
You have so much misinterpretation of this movie. There were lots of soda pops in the freeze cause that's what Gracie used to get paid with when she was working for Ape and she loved that drink and seeing so many bottles stocked in the freezer, Ape realized the principal may still be keeping Gracie somewhere. And I believe the principal wasn't eyeying for his own daughter, he thought Caroline's innocence was being disturbed by Patrick so to keep her "innocence" intact, he killed Patrick. But I also don't know what the purpose was for keeping that photograph. Also, I didn't think the town people wanted to show any expectation for solving the cases cause he wasn't doing anything free except the last one. It's more like the burden good people carry when normal people even his parents couldn't understand why he was still a little mopey, unlike us who saw that so many lives have been lost and wouldn't be the same even after the killer was dead.
I choked up on my food when I saw Caroline's actress on screen.
Went to school with her when we were young lol. Forgot she was an actress

That's how I feel about it.
Correct.

I saw this when it came out. Recommended it to a bunch of people. None of them listened.
Same, this movie was awesome

I absolutely love the odd nature of this film. Adam Brody is amazing in it.
Prett sure this movie had a wide release here in Canada since it's canadian but I'm glad it's getting recognition. Underappreciated gem.
Ayyyyeeee hey tbr schmitt and Samantha...never heard of this one. I liked it, awesome reaction y'all.
Great choice! A modern classic in my books.
Loved this flick. I saw it after reading some article recommending it and practically had to force my friends to see it. I was happy to see that there is still room for small, well-done films in this blockbuster, sequel-ridden, existing-IP climate.
The ending had me in stitches when the goofy music came up 😂

It was great watching your guys reaction to this movie 👏🏻👏🏻
I used to live in a small Mormon town in the Idaho desert, you'd be surprised what type of secrets folks have that end up being revealed decades later
Love Adam Brody and his dry deliveries and this flick utilized him well.
I only heard of this movie when randomly listening to the mark hoppus podcast. Where Adam Brody was the guest. I’ve liked him since the o.c days and I think he truly is an underrated actor. I hope he gets some more good roles in the future.
whoa! what a surprise! This is a great movie and Adam Brody is phenomenal in it.

This and Vengeance are by far the most underrated movies in the last few years.
I watched this about a year ago out of boredom and discovered a gem. ❤

I remember watching this when it came out. I'm a fan of Brody so tend to give his stuff a try. I've been trying to get mates to watch it since.
Thank you for reminding me of this movie! I streamed it back in 2020 and was pleasantly surprised. Adam Brody needs to be in more things.
Thank you guys, that was a good movie to add to my watchlist. Great reaction as always.
Glad you both love it
I heard about The Kid Detective first time from the Red Letter Media video. From time to time they dug up some great recent overlooked movies, another great one I discovered that way is Dinner in America, also from 2020...
Same saw it on RLM. Turned out to be a great surprise

I thought I was the only one that saw it because I couldn't discuss it with anyone in my circle. Cool that you two did too now.
Great mystery films in the same vein: Reversal of Fortune, Under the Silver Lake and Dead Again, You’ll be glad you did.
I love Under the Silver Lake. I think it has terrible pacing, though.
Never heard of this movie, watched like 2 minutes of your UA-cam edit and decided I needed to see the full thing myself.
I haven't seen Adam Brody since the movie Grind. I liked him then. Glad to see him in a smart role.
Thanks to the patron for recommending this. Really liked it and it's great to see Adam Brody playing a character that's not a version of Seth Cohen like he did in Mr. And Mrs Smith.
Yesssss! I love this movie. Shame it never really got any momentum because of when it came out, but what an ending!
Oh wow, not only have I not watched anyone else react to this, i've never even met anyone else that's _seen_ it :). Great little indie mystery IMO, knows its strengths and wisely plays to them.

I’m glad this film got on People’s Radar. I heard about it from Red Letter Media. Good stuff
Never heard of this one. Gonna have to go away and watch it first before I check out your reaction. Hope it's a good one.
Please do.
I doubt it
We loved it! Hope you enjoy!
I haven't really enjoyed too many movies released recently. This one was really good! You guys should definitely do The OC watch through.
Thank you so much, @iliketostayhome!! Thank you, guys, too!!
I paused your video right at the beginning and watched "The Kid Detective" before coming back to watch the rest.
I loved the movie, and I loved your movie reaction as usual!!
😉👍
So glad you liked it.
@@iliketostayhome ❤
@@PillowHero-jd6ie hey! 😊
i love this movie. its almost like less absurd melodramatic "Mystery Team" but its great. Gotta love a mystery comedy.
Oh no!! Watch out!! Sam’s crush is in this one!!!!!!
Can’t wait to see what he looks like!!
Adam Brody was trending just the other day on X because of a scene in his current show which had all the ladies melting. So yeah he's still acting.
I would have really appreciated a reaction to “if…” as I think Malcolm McDowell is a very special, underutilized talent. But I’m excited for this movie reaction too!
Hugely underrated film. I don’t know anyone who’s seen it.
Looking forward to your "Hellraiser" reaction when it makes YT, that's a scary movie (haha).
This movie was so good
I saw this film when it came out. Such a gem!
One of my favorite movies. Love it.
If you like this watch Brick with Joseph Gordon Lovett
Came here to say the same! River’s Edge could be interesting for them too.
The film was release in the U.S. on October 16, 2020, right as the second wave of the COVID-19 hit. It never had a chance to make any money.
Wow!! Lucky!! Two nights in a row!!!
A fantastic movie!

Never heard of this movie.
Must be one of those cult classics that was released a few years ago.
If u like mystery type movies u should watch Searching and/or Missing. I think ud love it
I loved this movie! Adam Brody is excellent!
Don't disrespect the game Pong, it's a classic. 🙂
This is a fun film
React to the film: REC (2007), a tense, brutal and disturbing Spanish horror. It's worth checking out.
The sneeze in the closet...
I'm dead.
Two of my favorite movies are Peanut Butter Falcon and The Kid Detective. Who reacts to those?! Only one channel, dammit!
Great reaction to an underrated gem! You guys would enjoy Gone Baby Gone I think, you seem to like Neo-Noir.
5k views! This baby's taking off 🚀🚀🚀
I think you should watch the client staring Susan sarandon really great film
Great movie. It mirrors growing up ending in the horrors of adulthood.
I think Sam is secretly "iliketostayhome" and just wanted to see Adam Brody 🤔🤣 jk
😂😂😂
@@samantha_schmitt watching the reaction now and eating dinner :) hope all is well with yall!
Since you're doing more indie flicks, consider Dinner In America which is finally getting some hype
😢😢😢😢😢😢
It might already be on your list but if you liked The Kid Detective you'll also like Brick from 2005
