I was an HDU/recovery nurse for 10 1/2 years. I often recovered cardiothoracic patients. Especially NUS procedures. OMG the post op pain the patients went through was honestly heartbreaking. We always made a point of having the hard-core IV medication prepped and ready to go before we would extubate and wake them up. The gas they use during the surgery causes shoulder tip pain which can be incredibly painful as it escapes from the tissues. Also having your chest flipped 180° is agonising as you can imagine. But it's incredible how life changing the procedure is. I'm so happy that Man got such a great result.

@@beyedoc Yeah it really is. well immediately post op when they wake up. It seems to be more common in men than women. The condition I mean. I had to give ketamine to a patient once as morpine and fentanyl just wasn't working. That patient was having a great time after the ketamine infusion started bless him.
I saw them so this surgery on another patient it looks painful I’m sure it is.
I had a Diagnostic lap some years ago and the post-op pain from that gas was awful!! The pain and pressure in my shoulder and chest!!
It’s the CO.2 causing the discomfort. I’ve had several laparoscopy’s done and they fill the abdomen with CO2 and the shoulder pain is excruciating.
When I was 5yo in 1956 I asked my 33 yo dad why his chest sunk in. He spun a tale of catching a mortar shell during WWII.
Didn't know it actually was a physical condition until seeing this video. Back then it wasn't a diagnosis either. He kept physically active with swimming, karate, and multi mile walks up until his death at 77.
My brother was also born with this. He got the full operation 3 years ago and he’s super happy about it
My brother had this too and had the bar put in as a small child. But it was in for like 5 or 6 years. He's 40 now.
My husband had a seroma,develop after abdominal surgery. A light clear yellow fluid filled sack. Like Brandon we went to the ER and had it drained but decided to do it our self. It popped at work and drained. His boss said not to return until he had a note from the doctor. He was seen and finally he had a large S shape catheter with many holes implanted. It had a suction ball for easy drainage. 2 months later the ball was dry and the tube was removed.They wouldn't let him work because they saw it as a liability. Thank goodness for a medical leave of absence, Short term disability insurance and paid time off hours he accumulated. He made more money than working and we took a vacation!

What a super supportive family this gentleman has. From his wife and daughter to his sister. I feel like he was in danger of getting really ill if this was not taken care of when it was treated. So glad he got it taken care of by these two.
I had this operation when I was 23. One hefty recovery period. Great surgical/nursing team and my lovely family being patient with me while in bed recovering for a while. I remember growing up thinking I was the only one who had this 🤣 luckily the internet came out when I was in my late teens and I found out I wasn’t.
I love Dr Paul for how he does not care about revealing who he is. His confidence is so cool.

I can only imagine how much pain these patients had. I had a motorcycle accident where the handlebar went into the middle of my breast and separated the ribs from my sternum. It was excruciating

Miss Lauren Powers is truly an inspiration to a lot of women around the world. I remember seeing her on my strange addiction which that show can be fake. She inspired me so much by what she's gone through in life. I messaged her telling her how much she inspired me. I couldn't believe she replied. It is so wonderful she is continuing her journey. ❤
Honey, how can she inspire women,other than trans-women? She's obviously a man, trying to live as a woman. I wish her all the best--but I don't think that I can ever see her as anything but a man who wishes that he were a woman.
my youngest brother was born with this and had a surgery like this, but he had the new procedure where they "shut off" (kill) the nerves in the chest first so there's no pain during healing! sometimes the feeling can come back and sometimes it doesn't. his didn't, but it was worth it to him! his bar will stay in his whole life though.
Wish they killed my nerves when I was in ICU with a collapsed lung for a week. Seriously though... That is amazing and so happy they were able to help your brother. My situation doesn't even compare. Just the idea of "shutting off nerves" fills me with envy, lol. Hence my reply.
Radiofrequency ablation is a Godsend for me. I have a degenerative bone condition impacting my spine. I have regular nerve destruction of pain nerves about every 6-12 months to the back of my head, back of my neck, and lumbar spine. I would be in a wheelchair if I didn’t have treatment and do exercises to maintain mobility.
So happy for this guy for a surgery that was so needed and a long time coming. It will be cool to see how it is after the 3 years is up and the bar is removed from his chest. Then he will be able to lift weights and develop his chest if he desires.
I was going to say, it looks like the surgery may have affected his pectoral muscles a bit

My question is where did Brandon get his medical care as a child? A veterinarian or something?! WTF! He should have had more support with that issue as a kid, so he didn't need to go out to some butcher to get implants. This is the sad reality of living in rural communities or sparsely populated states: lack of quality medical doctors.
I get costochondritis which is just inflammation of the cartilage between my ribs, and that's excruciating enough.
My heart (pun intended) goes out to everyone that's had to have their chest cracked. Y'all are rockstars!

Oooof I was diagnosed with that when I was 17, it was so bad I thought I was having a heartattack! I'm 42 now and have had a couple of flairups over the years, but that first one was the WORST

I have a cousin in Germany who had this NUS procedure quite a few years ago. The recovery was excruciating. He ended up unable to work full time due to the chest pain. I found this episode of Full Transformation Botched by Nature to very interesting and informative.
That is a very interesting operation. The Dr who created this way to fix this problem with a persons chest is a very creative thinker. And an amazing doctor. Great episode! Thank you Dr. Terry & Dr. Paul. You guys are hero’s. ♥️♥️♥️

This episode came out in 2016, was probably filmed in 2015. As of 2000, depending on the source, between 43% - 52% of adults used the internet in the USA and much of the country did not have access to the internet. There were only 400 million internet users worldwide. It’s easy to over estimate how fast the internet spread. Iowa was absolutely one of the areas where internet access would have been patchy and many people would not have had access to the internet.
@@toomanyopinions8353 I understand for a few rural areas. I'm a native Hoosier. Not your most Metropolitan state. But, I don't recall any internet issues during that period. 1990s--- yeah maybe. (Even i had dial up then and i was late to the game being just past computer age kids) But, not 2016. JS

Dr. Dubrow is referring to the patients first surgery, which, depending on when this was filmed, would have taken place in either 1999 or 2000. When only 1/2 of US adults had internet access. The patient said specifically that he had the implant put in 16 years prior.
@@toomanyopinions8353 That doesn't mean that the half "deprived" of internet were necessarily the Midwest. I lived there in that time period. I should know. By 1999, a large number of households had some form of internet access whether dial up or ethernet. Coastal people think Midwesterners are backward. Not the case. I found my attitude was more progressive than the "city folk" on the coast.

It's so nice seeing someone with the same condition I have featured here! I found out what it was called when I was 15 on the Internet after a ton of desperate self research. My case isn't bad enough to need surgery to fix as it doesn't impact me physically, but man, dealing with it for so long as a young girl who got bullied because of it and just had to come to terms with it and learn to be okay with how I look, that was hard. I was severely insecure about it for literally the first two decades of my life basically. It's so cool seeing the actual procedure and seeing results too!

I did too but that would make sense to remove it, otherwise you’d be pretty much back to square one in a lot of ways.

@@GwenHembrock More than likely the bones will knit together to form a more natural shaped chest. It probably serves as a sort of “brace “ for the chest to adapt to. I’m only guessing.

@@photobeatIowa resident here, grown up here of all 29 years and counting. We didn’t really have computers in every home until probably 2005-2008. It’s the Midwest and the prices of technology were still high and the “need” for a home computer wasn’t there.
@@photobeatSome homes might have had computers in 2000 but they were literally the black screen with green letters and floppy disks. You were not searching the web or online shopping like we do now.

I thought it was really weird that his wife’s girlfriends had to approve of his chest, he said he hopes they like it. WTH, it is to give you Brandon a longer, healthier and easier life who cares if they like it. OMG I can’t believe that.
oml the incisions have healed beautifully, he is standing up straighter, breathing better, and i can tell himself, his heart, and his family have felt the change. absolutely fantastic surgery to witness in part, the implant rotation was so dope

I had a roommate that has this condition. He went to the Mayo Clinic to be operated on. The recovery was excruciating and he became addicted to opioids as a result.

😂😂😂 the back hair trim. Thank God the surgery went well. The concave chest limits breathing and so many other health issues. I'm so glad that he is happy and healthy. I love this show because they change the quality of life for so many people.

I had the same surgery as this guy. Metal bar and everything. I got it when i was around 14 or 15 if i remember. It helped me a lot. The doctor told me he wanted to use to bars. 1 For the middle and 1 for the top. But he was not comfortable with 2 bars and how much harder it would be to heal. Now that I'm older i kind of wish i took the option to just be cut open and have everything lined up perfectly. 1 is because it would look better from a physical stand point. The scar as a male I'm less worried about then the physical deformity. 2 As i got older i get some pain in my chest. Not sure if its the bone or what it is. But its in the top part on the right that's still sunken in where he never put the bar in. I went back to him maybe 20 years later to ask about it. They did an xray and said everything looked fine and my organs were safe. He would not do any more surgery just for the pain i have or for the cosmetics sadly.

The bar removal surgery is not so painful as the initial surgery. The recovery time is also much shorter.

Implants can make the chest look flat. You just fill up the hole. It's just cosmetic and doesn't fix anything
These 2 doctors are indeed very funny and both very attractive men in their ways Dr Nassiff has improved with age being Lebanese he is very handsome but Dr Debrow is great too they seem to be very clever and their kindness shines through. There was a post about which man was hottest I can't compare them as they are so visually different but both all round good guys

Huh! My dad was born with a big ol' dent in his chest but I was always told it was from when his mom was milking a cow that fell on her while she was 7mo preg. Thought they lost him but he was good. (he was born in the early 60's on a farm)

I have an almost insane inability to be physically impacted by medical procedures. But when Dr. Losasso sculpted that bar, guided by the arthroscope, then did metalwork (literally in the moment), fed that into this man's chest wall, insanely close to his heart and lungs, twisted it, and this man's chest popped out... to a completely normative definition... Hopy crap! I gasped and covered my mouth. That was astounding! I am so impressed by modern medicine and the skill honed by certain individuals. That is NOT common. This is an artist at work. Just... Wow!

I’ve heard of kittens and puppies with this birth defect, but not human babies! One kitten’s defect was discovered when he was about six weeks old. It was treated with a splint and brace. A puppy had surgery. Both survived and lived normal lives.
Infants with this problem can have a surgery to correct the problem. I thought that they always were offered the fix early in life. Kinda freaked out that kids are growing up without the fix.
With high white cell count is fever not present.

Girl speak for yourself. When I was high as hell going under anesthesia I kept trying to pet my surgeon's chest hair and begging him for a mustache ride because with no filter I was happy to inform everyone that hairy men are hot.
