I live in Jamaica. Growing up, I always thought that I was poor and that my life was pretty much the worst. But watching this documentary has made me realize that I've been more privileged than a lot of persons out there. I was just too poor to afford other luxuries that children of my age had but was comfortable enough to never have to go bed hungry or have my parents depending on the government to keep us fed. I've even had the opportunity to go to a tertiary institution. Some of the children might not even make it to high school or anywhere past that. I was so ungrateful growing up but now I've realized I had all that I needed and that my parents, though they couldn't control how they were living, in a one bedroom board house, still ensured that I went through life as comfortable as possible. There are tears in my eyes right now for these children and their parents. I'm absolutley saddened by this awareness and hope that one day I will be okay enough to help a family in need.

The girl looked good in her dress even know it wasn't expensive she was happy and really appreciated what her mum could afford! It looked nicer than those so called 200 pound dress,s.
Omg I’ve never wanted to whip out my credit card so bad and buy those kids the things they want and need. Nicest and most appreciative kids ever! I do hope the parents find work.
Didn't they say he has a sweetshop under their house? You can see it all bordered up in could of clips, they say he had to close the shop after the mom left. My bet is that he got more benefits from government as a single dad to 7 kids not working than what his shop brought in revenue. However these kids are old enough to look after themselves, plus they have a grandma to help out. I was 9 years old when I would be looking after my 3 younger siblings whilst both of my parents went to work... everything is possible... I mean they could even rent out the empty shop space to another business and get a nice additional income. They own their house so they are already much better of than most people in their situation.
@@natis3268 Agreed! Their are older kids in the house that can also step up! He doesn't need to treat it like he and they are helpless. Yes, they mostlikely do get more from the government however they seem very resourceful and think outside the box for most things so he needs to just get it done. I think the stress of it all exhausts him however he's the Dad and needs to do whatever it take to take care of his kids.
Its sad that the Mom is so frustrated with her situation that she takes it out on the kids, and like babygirl said when her Mom yells she doesnt know how it makes them feel, yall are all in the same boat, those are your kids girl, dont make it harder on them. Hollering and screaming on top of no food is just too much to bare, especially for a child, you gotta give them soooooo much love, you gotta make them feel like nothing is wrong even when there is a problem, youre the parent. Mann smh
I agree when my children were little bitty I became a single parent and struggled for a bit but I always made them feel safe. When we stayed at a shelter in told them we had won a chance to take a vacation in a giant house with a few other lucky people and made them believe we were special for it. They really enjoyed it and i made it fun as I could. Point is your have a responsibility to make your kids feel safe and it makes it 10x harder on the parent to do its but its important and you simply have to.
How do you find in yourselves to be negatively criticizing this mother. She is struggling and reacting. Parenting does not come with a manual. It comes with situations we all have to deal with as they come. I pray that God will send her help.
7:42 “I don’t think she realizes how she makes us feels ”.... 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 (after a mother yells at her kids)... EDIT: thanks for the likes this is QUOTE from her own child ...
Amber Shiflett rii that crazy state giving him money but his ahh can still work u got ur children selling there stuff thats low fr when u just sitting there so young your taking there childhood
I have mixed feelings on that honestly. He mentioned that he has about 3 hours free time per day where all the kids are actually out of the house. I'm not sure how true that is. There are older kids and the grandma living in the house that I feel like could handle themselves for a few hours, but the grandma's health wasn't touched on and I didn't count enough kids (he mentioned 7) so I'm not sure how young they go. It sounds like he does the finances/budgeting for the house, though I'm not sure about that. And the little money making/saving things like trash picking are very time consuming (thrifting for clothing for example takes a lot longer than buying new. And fixing things and/or selling things to get money takes a lot longer than just buying a new thing when you need it.) This all said, he's a lot heavier than the others in the house (could be health but who knows) and seemed defensive when the kids asked him about working. I definitely have reserves on that dad, but I don't think we can judge based on the doc alone.
Lindsay's grandma is very creative! Aniya's mum needs to go counselling and Paige's mom needs to accept help when it's offered and get over her pride. The children are all remarkably well mannered and appreciative of the simple things. Both heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time.
Judgement is easy. Feel free to send them money for their counseling and whatnot. It's probably a lot harder to get out of such a situation than it is to fall into it.
I understand why Paige's mom doesn't want to accept the money. Would you want to feel like you owed someone a lot of money? It's more than pride and accepting help. It is interesting to see what kids understand in these situations and I don't think Paige understands why her mom doesn't want to accept help from a boyfriend. What if their relationship didn't work out? Would make it harder with owing money. She doesn't need to accept anything.
if you were living her exact life you would feel the same way, even if you were extremely poor and turned into a billionaire you would eventually get used to the money and problems that can't be solved with money would start to have an affect on you.
Claire Malousek i mean, they were being be quiet, if they are making too much noise it would be harder for them cause its possible for them to be kicked out which would be a lot harder
she's extremely stressed. she's a single mother with virtually no money in a dingy apartment raising two young kids. don't talk unless you've experienced.
@@tiffpinkorable1064 this isnt a perfect world. My kid is 12, and when she was younger I hate to say it, but I was far meaner than I am now. Part of that has to do with how young I was. I wasnt properly prepared, but she was here, so I had to make do with it. I was also a single mom and broke, which only made more stress in my life. Obviously it wasnt ideal for my child, and trust me, I feel guilty about quite a few things, but it was what it was. Thankfully our situation has improved greatly since she was younger, and I've gotten a lot more mature as I've gotten older. I'm a completely different parent now at 32 than I was at 20. Its not all roses and not everyone is easily capable of just doing everything the way we should. If that was the case we would live in a much better world.
I can sympathize that she's very stressed out but that doesn't excuse her inappropriate behavior. Those children learn from her example, she has to learn to control her emotions better around the kids or they will end up mimicking that behavior.
I just wanted to scoop her up, give her a hug and help her family! The others as well, but something so special about her. I hope the financial situation for all has brightened. I would love to know how they all made out.🙏

The store where that single father used to operate his business is literally downstairs. He can still look after his children even though he's doing something. His case is just irritating
I was thinking the same. Why shut the store down. That's a source of income. 🤷🏽♀️ Just a thought. Yes, the kids can work in the shop. They are old enough. They have a business since. If not candy a thrift store.
These kids are so precious and well-mannered! The little girl who sold her things to help her dad brought me to tears!! You can tell the dad is such a wonderful man because of how much kids kids love him!! Grandma is amazing too!!

These children are allowing their misfortunes to benefit them in ways to become amazing adults. I love the family bond they share. How lovely they all are. Sending you love. Stay strong.

Dad looks healthy enough to work, (even though he's 100 lbs. over weight) I know he has 7 kids, mother/ex-wife must be heartless walking away!? He doesn't have a baby? Grandma or older children can care for the younger ones! No reason NOT to work!! I just watched the father, basically BLAME the children for him not working? Then the kids felt bad.....insane manipulation!😟
Yes, I think single dad could get some kind of part time work. He was mean to say to them I can't work because I have seven kids. He could do some night work perhaps.
Don't be so quick to judge. The grandmother may work or may be too ill to care for the kids. With 7 kids there is bound to always be one who is sick and out of school at least once a week. And school hours are usually about 6 hours a day. If you factor in a commute, that is 5 hours a day spent working. He needs to figure out how to work from home. But getting that much money from the government, why even go through the stress of working? He probably wouldn't make as much
I understand the second mom being all stressed out and stuff about money but damn don't take it out on the kids!! I mean you are the reason why y'all are living that way!!! 🤷♀️
This documentary was truly eye opening. It made me realise just how blessed I was in my childhood. My dad raised me on his own, and even though there was some tough times, I never had to go through the stress of these children, worrying about a lack of food in the fridge. I always had whatever I needed and this documentary made me realise just how much I admire my dad. All these children are lovely souls and I wish them all the best.

This honestly had me in tears, i cant believe these innocent children have a life like this, they seem so sad to see their parents tired of trying to pay bills, grocery shopping, and doing other things, these kids are very well behaved and grateful for the life they have with such a low budget, i am grateful to have a life and all the things this world brings me, many children with wealth are spoiled showing off their cool things, but these children in the video cant do that which makes me sad, if i could change anything in the world my first choice would be poverty, to help the families out their and to give them the life they deserve, and i hope we could all try to make it happen

@@alibhg3063 She probably left because she was doing all the work. Divorce can be a financial and emotional strain on both the couple and kids.

Mann smh
I know that little girl is an angel her mom should be thankful she has such a kind intelligent daughter.

I definitely have reserves on that dad, but I don't think we can judge based on the doc alone.
pianobooks42 Exactly i agree with u
when she said, “when I hear my mom cry through the walls, it makes me want to cry,” it my heart hurt
Morale: don’t complain, be grateful for your life.
Lindsay's grandma is very creative! Aniya's mum needs to go counselling and Paige's mom needs to accept help when it's offered and get over her pride.
The children are all remarkably well mannered and appreciative of the simple things. Both heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time.
This is the best comment ever!!!
@@@KristalAshely Thank you. Just what I observed.
Judgement is easy. Feel free to send them money for their counseling and whatnot. It's probably a lot harder to get out of such a situation than it is to fall into it.
its easy to judge. Don't say something about how other people live their life unless you're living it.
And yet I complain when my internet is slow or I can’t buy something...such grateful children, appreciating everything that they own

she's extremely stressed. she's a single mother with virtually no money in a dingy apartment raising two young kids. don't talk unless you've experienced.
Those children learn from her example, she has to learn to control her emotions better around the kids or they will end up mimicking that behavior.

its very likely he is her caregiver. Neither of them look to be in great health.
might be her care giver, he also said 7 children so maybe there are younger kids as well
Chronically Cassidy he gets 2000£ a month from the government. He probably is better off not working.
