    Great printer, I have the black version.
    No need to apply any adhesives, just wash the steel sheet with washing-up liquid (best results) or wipe the surface with IPA.

    Biqu makes a direct drive similar to the Himera only more compact and lighter weight. I notice you upgraded to Capricorn tubing. I'm seriously considering this as a first printer. Biqu also offers a dual gear extruder and an upgrade heat break that converts the hot end to full metal. That might help with ABS printing. I figure with those and an upgrade to Capricorn tube I'd be all set. Adding a second Z axis lead screw sounds kind of involved, but maybe it wouldn't be too bad. I know the main board supports that.

    People raging over "Star Trek Discovery", lol. He got ya good! Anyway, awesome review. Just clicked "buy" after this vid. Added in a capricorn tube and some Esun PLA+. Have you installed any modifications yet?

    I've had the BQB1 for about a month myself and I've pushed 5kg various PLA through it. I find the Fan Noise out of the base on the right hand side to be inexcusable. It is jet engine loud and you can hear it 2 rooms away. Long term I'm worried about ability to swap hotend for direct drive as I suppose you'd just have to skip the entire USB C connection to hotend... so you really need an entire Hotend wiring system that incorporates it's own wiring for everything (LED/Fans/..etc). There is enough 'unique' enough in the BQB1 to make it a pain to upgrade easily as the userbase is never going to be as large as other printers. It's a disservice to say adding AutoBed leveling is easy. They included a bracket and plugin in the back and it gets every reviewer saying it's 'easy'. There are in depth resource / guides on the crazy things required to get it to work in practice and it isn't 'easier' than other printers. I recommend running your USB-C cable alongside your bowden tube with a loose ziptie near extruder. It flops around much less that way and can't get caught in anything.

      I agree on this comment, fans are loud. Auto bed leveling is PITA to setup but I easily managed to use manual mesh bed leveling tutorial by teaching tech. There is firmware on the thingiverse which makes it super easy to do so. My bed was warped out of the box so it is a must do. I also had problems with PLA adhesion until I bumped the temps to 240°C for the first few layers. I would recommend the printer for the money though.

    Did you made sure your PTFE tube is all the way in hotend. Touching back of nozzle? It's a major cause of stringing in Ender 3 apart from tuning retraction settings. You can try Chep's Curaprofile for Ender 3

    Great review.
    This review has made me pull the trigger on my first 3D printer purchase, so thanks.
    Just a quick question, where do you buy your filament from?
    Cheers

    • @Schematix
      @Schematix  4 роки тому +1

      I buy my filament through Bits4bots (local New Zealand supplier) Don't cheap out by buying the cheapest filament you can find on the internet. Stick with known brands such as eSun, taulman, Colorfab.etc

    A small suggestion that I have made to other reviewers, assemble the printer ONLY with the tools that are provided, if the tools are NOT there, then make sure to note what is needed.

      @@omegadeepblue1407 It was great, had some issues, SKR 1.4 board died about 2 months later. Had to wait months for a replacement, but it's working. Did some mods, and since last week, been running on Klipper at around 100mm/s vs the ol 30mm/s avg.
      I have subsequently gotten the Creality K1 a month ago, so now they are sitting side by side, laying down nice layers of filament. Love this hobby.

      I couldn't help myself ;) PLA+ as the name would suggest is PLA plastic that has been altered to improve printing characteristics. It's about the same cost per roll as regular PLA so really there's no reason not to use PLA+
