Impressive results for $80 and great review, Octopi would get around all of the control limitations, the size is perfect, the vast majority of prints I've done over the last four years would have been fine on a six inch bed.
Yes, I would open it up to see if it has an STM32, ATmega128 or some such, with serial/usb interface that would allow Octoprint to work with it.
On the X1 (predecessor to this) Octoprint works just fine and you can also use direct USB printing from Cura (or even Pronterface for that matter)
Thank you for your review. I was gifted this printer after expressing interest in 3D printing, so I'm excited to see the results my non-technical self will get out of playing with one.
Nice, thorough review. Thanks for this... Very informative.
2 years later and thank you. Great video, I mean it's answering every question one would have. I purchased a nice Delta printer few years back and haven't figured out how to load the firmware(Marlin). It looks really cool but has never operated. I am interested in ender $500 model with upgrades but the software seams so complicated. Great video, you are detail oriented and appreciated man. Thank you.
been looking for a 3D printer that's economically sound so thank you for this.
Thanks for this! I just grabbed one for $60 on Amazon.
Good review man, I was watching while putting mine together.
I opened the box same time as you, thought it'd b more complicated
its like the easy bake oven of filament printers...
I have one and yes it's kinda easy bake oven
It would be cool to see how you could optimize this little machine. I'm thinking that it would be good for my kids.
would love to see this "tuned" up to see what it can output lol
Basically it is a twin z axis upgrade of the X1 model (which I own). There are optimized slicer settings for Cura, Simplify3D and PrusaSlicer for that. I would expect the parameters should not be that different for the K1. Once you dial it in it is pretty decent for the price and size restrictions. In my case (since I am a bit of a tinkerer), I completely pimped my X1 changing the motherboard to an SKR Mini E3 v1.2 with an LCD screen from my Ender 3, changed the extruder to a bowden setup with an E3D V6 hotend and added a heatbed with a PEI bed on top). After all that it became my dedicated 0.2mm nozzle printer for small prints.
@@ThanosTsakirisGaijin Hahahah! that sounds amazing! love to see a video of that printing
Just a demo vid plss
@@mattgardner2427 ua-cam.com/video/lPqaW8fYdhI/v-deo.html There ya go! :)
Not bad at all for $80. Thanks for reviewing it.
Honestly I love that stuff like this have come out I even saw a maker magazine the other month showing off a handful of sub £100 printers and I had to get it just to see what was what
Great Review would be interesting to see a follow up of what tweaks to the configuraiton or modifications you found Helped the little guy
I really want a 3D printer but I feel a little overwhelmed and this little printer makes me feel a little bit more confident about buying my first one. I'd like to see an optimization video to see what this thing can really do.
Love to see this thing dialed in it would be great I love to see that and see what settings u used
Wow thanks ive just subscribed and brought one on ebay just now at 45 English pounds I can't wait to start my first 3 d printing project thanks
This video is very helpful thank you.
I'm actually interested in this printer as I don't have a lot of space, and projects I want to do are small anyways. Anymore videos on fine tuning, using octoprint, etc. would be great.
I always see these kind of things more like in a sense of potential.
So before hand I already don't expect much out of the box, but just try to find ways to make it very workable with some tweaks and addons.
Looks like a good starter toy. Good video.
i think its meant to be pronounced Easy three-d, and in Easy 3D, but I could be wrong
hahahahhah
Best of luck with that.. looking forward to the vid. My similarly priced Tronxy XY1 is just sitting in the corner.
Has had so many modifications but haven't got it to print anything yet..
Great learning curve mind you!
agreed learning curve is great.. i havn't ran into much issues printing... i know at one point i had to reformat the sd card to fat32 again cause i might have pulled it out too quick from the machine and corrupt it
I got the k3? It works fine, it's a great starter printer. Cheap too. But it is not a serious printer, but it is great for starting out. Does pretty good for what it is. For the money you can't beat it.
+1 full tune video
Great video. I have one of this printer and i will like to know wich settings are you using in cura, or what will be the best setting for this one? Please and thank you.
Amazing video! Where can I download the profile for the EasyThreed k1? You mentioned you downloaded it but since I am a beginner I don't know from where. Thank you for any help!!
Do the basic adjustment in marlin , steps etc connect octoprint, print a calibration cube and benchy. Print upgrades and disassemble the machine to see fans, print end, motors etc
Great review thank you - I think my 13yr old son is about to buy it.
Not bad. Though I definitely would've wanted to see one thing. Thermal runaway protection. It's really crucial feature on device that's targeted for mainly youngsters. Even more critical because of the lack of temp displays and very slow print speeds.
the easythree x1 has thermal runaway protection. id u unpluy the thermoresistor from the hotend the hotend shuts down. So im pretts sure this one has it too.
@@odeldodelhorst7549 I hope so.
Easy ThreeD used stepper motors on my X3 unit that had a 24:1 ratio. While not a bad idea, the stepper motors are cheap, and as such, only one stepper motor on my printer had a snug gearbox. All the others had slop that allowed details to be lost, including misalignment of prints on certain circumstances (Think of the Y axis not moving back far enough)
Is a good printer for the price, but the stepper motor slop killed it for me, making prints inaccurate. If when the power is on and steppers enabled, you can move the axis at all then you are going to have a problem. They do run marlin (obviously), and I tried custom firmware with backlash compensation configured but it didn't help that much sadly.
Great to start out with, but if you can manage it, an Ender 3 or even the smaller linear axis printers are a notable step up.
That is the hinge, I printed a few of those boxes, Larger of course. You get 2 different choices on the latches, thst printer looks so cool.
Could you recommend cheap but ok filament to go with the K1? Thank you.
Where did you get the profile for the printer in cura I’ve been searching for a while and had no luck
Do you think the easythreed x1 will have the same cura settings for this? I’m really having trouble setting up the setting for this printer in cura.
Good video. Have you looked at the easythreed x1? Can I look into and make adjustments as you describe for the K1?
Small question, if you please: Bought mine open box, and when I got it, everything needed was there except for the power adapter. Could you please tell me the wattage and what size the barrel plug is?
Super cheap and just needs a tad tweaking, nice! I wonder if it could handle 95a tpu?
very well made video
Do you have suggestions on how to clean the print bed? There is now melted filament on it that we are not easily able to scrape off.
Its really cool
I recommend NOT using dry lubrication on the rods and bearings. I used to repair printers and have worked on thousands of them and the most common point of failure were the bearings that had dry lube (like graphite) impregnated in the bearings. After some time, dust accumulates inside the bearings and leaves dirt trails on the rods causing the rods to stick intermittently which wears out the motors. I recommend using a light 3 in one oil instead. Dry lube is fine for loose fitting parts, but for tight tolerances, use oil.
I noticed this on Ebay awhile ago, and had the chance to youtube it, I wonder what other machine will be Easy to do for a true beginner that will not break the Bank I think 4 in is limited, what would you recommend? I am basic with computer skills. You made this look so easy, maybe I will get one to do gopro, and rc, and whatever else I can think of again thanks for a excellence of explanation
Can you please share the k1 cura profile? The sd card that came with it was corrupt and i can't seem to find it online.
will this handle things like wood or metal filament?
I purchased the Orange K1 open box off ebay for 45.00 and am printing out my first Benchy using the white pla that it comes with. I need a printer for small FPV parts printed in TPU and read about the X1 being a great inexpensive TPU printer. Side note my K1 is super quite compared to an Ender3 a friend of mine uses.
Have you used this printet or k1 with TPU? Can it handle well the tpu or petg?
Does the print with tpu? I'm looking for something to print drone parts and need a decent printer for tpu
Put the print head carriage down low before you tighten the screws. This assures the legs have the correct spacing.
Can i use it with TPU or PETG?
there are x3/x4 with heated bed, just little bit more $.
dont crank up setting to high speed + hotter hotend because the power supply only 3a
What if i print a marvel statue such as captain america or spiderman..is it ok ?.or it will make the printer to overheating or anything ?.because even the box that you print taking 6-8 hour to finish..so can you tell me sir ?
Yes, since it is $80. Can you do a beginner's guide? nice video
What is the 6 digit code to add printer ?
hi, could you share the cura profile for this printer?
does 1.75mm pla+ work too?
I’d be down to see how you optimize this little guy.
I love to see it optimized and be able to see what the settings would be for it being optimized if anyone hasn't done that yet because all the printers are exactly the same printer head and same bed size
Okay one is in my cart. I'm going to hold off on the purchase until you get a chance to show what this baby can do with a full tune up.
Just get an ender 3 don't water your dough on that garbage mate
I ordered a similar one off amazon for 65.00 ...cant wait to get it
wow $65! that's amazing
Can u make a video on adding a touch screen to this unit
This week i setup the Easythreed K7, so far happy, it looks like it may be the same firmware hardware with a smaller footprint. It also was $79
My issue, large rafts tend to wrap.
The fan is the loudest noise
Still going after 5 months?
Good, balanced review. Do you have any idea of whether this construction is significantly better than the X1 or K7, since this has support on both ends of the X axis?
I don't know about the k7, but there is a definite upgrade when compared to the x1, the difference in print quality isn't massive, but it is noticable
Did any1 manage to print PETG with it? It doesn't require heated bed and the adhesion is good, but the hotend temp is slightly higher than PLA
is this compatible with Heroforge? when someone wants to make a custom CHaracter for a dnd session, its much quicker and cheaper to print it out. looking for a printer who could do that. (and making tiles for dungouns)
Can you use an ipad with whit this.
Came for the printer, stayed for the box ;)
That was interesting.
I have the same 3d printer, but it looks different than that one and it cost me more than $80 and so far, it does okay i wish it had a heated bed, but it is what it is I'm looking to find a good video on how to slice for 3d printing and good software and like he said tweaking the machine learning how. I ran across this video by mistake which is a nice video. It would be nice to have a bigger and better 3d printer there's so many to choose from and cost to.
Hello vewry nice printer. I have one But i couldn't get the setting correct. I also get the spacing problem. Can you please do a update video on fixing the settings?
yea i plan on it, once i dial down the settings i'll make a video for it
@@NovaspiritTech Awesome. I can't wait to see it.
Any chance that you might give one out for young aspiring makers? It's really hard to "hack till it hits" when you don't have a 3D printer.😶
Then buy one?
200€ for a normal one or 80€ for this one is well worth it.
Will it print tpu?
Sweeeet job done! Quite nice machine. But fills alot :)
Thanks for the video! I can't print another models, only rocket, which in complect. Printer don't see the "*.stl" files. May be "*.gcode" files needs? Tell please 🙏
Gcode only
It's ok for the price. I have the X1 and the wierd little bear looking one too. They both work ok.
lol that bear is kinda creepy, pumping parts out of its belly
My wife wants more content on the EasyThreed! She's more interested in 3d printing than I am!
hahaha she's a keeper! i just found out easythreed is pronouced easy three D or easy 3d
@@NovaspiritTech that's awesome! She saw the video and was like "I have a spot ready for one on my craft table!" because she makes 1:6, 1:12, & 1:64 scale fantasy creatures for D&D players, she has all the things, but a "tool" like 3D printer. She says the Ender models are too much investment for what she will use it for, so this sub-$100 option is perfect!
haha this is perfect for a craft table!! hit me up on my discord channel if your not already on there. i'm working on fine turning the settings to get even better prints with this printer
Ugh. My son just bought this with his summer lemonade stand money :) and we’re having a heck of a time trying to figure out how to transfer files onto micro disk using usb and website like it says to in order to print. Help?
Try formatting the format, I had this isue with another sdcard I had, and needed to format to fat32
Please full tune for this amazing printer
Picked one up the feeder would not work so I exchanged it now this one will not read sd cards.
Would love to see how far you could push this little "toy". Please make a next part.
I agreed I like to see the settings dialed in
It's unfortunate you can't get finer nozzles for it - if I got one I'd reserve it for use for small prints with fine detail, e.g. figurines - slow it down and let it print, and free up the larger printers for other work.
Cute
My EasyThreeD X4 cannot print circles, they come out squared off, makes it kinda useless.
By putting painters tape on the bed you solve the problem of needing heated bed it works great and you don't need to use raft or brim to print either
How does it help? Won't the pla slide?
what I want to see is you to put skr born on it upgrade but firmware to klipper tune in the resonance and retraction push this thing to the limit lol
Wow, and I just bought an Ender 3 lol. Well looks like I would quickly grow out of the 100mm print area anyways.
PLA is not biodegradable the way you imply. You can't throw that in the compost (well you could, but it would be bad for the environment). And while the fumes are way less harmful than ABS, that doesn't make them harmless. Printing any plastic produces microscopic particles that are not good for you. That said, I'm stunned this thing seems moderately well designed. Honestly looks like a great way to get into 3d printing.
I’ve had a few good prints on it but it needs glue every time and I’ve gotten so frustrated trying to level it 100 times and it still would be badly off
Have u ever got the bed level
Don't even adjust Marlin. Go straight to Klipper with a Raspberry Pi Zero. Upgrade the LM8UU linear bearing sliders (I am guessing that's being used with linear rods) with Drylin sliders and get some noise reduction on that thing. You can also add a TL smoother board and that may help lower the stepper noise slightly.
i have some lm8uu laying around. i might do that upgrade soon. thanksss
Wait, this thing really has USB?
@@NovaspiritTech Most likely it is using LM8UU stock. The Igus Drylin slider is what you want to try. It's a composite plastic that deposits dry lubrication as it slides along the linear rods. They're really durable and you'll have thousands of hours print time before they wear out. They're fairly cheap on Amazon as well. 4 for $7 I believe. Just make sure they're geniune Igus Drylin and not plain plastic knockoffs. The legit stuff is grey in color with random white spots that make a slight marbling effect. The fake ones are usually yellow. Here's the link to product spec www.igus.com/product/990?artNr=RJ4JP-01-08
The challenge you'll probably run into with Klipper is knowing the right microcontroller model and the bootloader size it is using in order to compile and flash the firmware properly. But if their firmware is based on Marlin then that information should be readily available. Klipper with the added TL Stepper Smoother board should help get the most out of this printer imo.
@@jothain Yea it has a USB-B port on the back. I saw it from the documentation. I don't actually have it to verify functionality.
@@foureight84 Ok. I wasn't expecting that. I though they whacked even usb ports out on such cheap machine.
Is it me or every time I click on Amazon links for these budget supposedly 69-79 printers they come up for 100 or more. When was this 79.00?
Spend a few bucks on a Pi Zero W, ADXL345 accelerometer and put Klipper with Fluidd/Mainsail on this thing. Let it rip.
I was thinking of jumping into an ender 3 but this has my curiosity. I am curious what abilities the version with a screen has over this one.
Microcenter has the ender 3 pro on a $100 coupon special right now. Got mine a few days ago. Get if you can. Works great, and I've never 3d before then. Was up and printing in a couple hours.
@@cwalke32477 I'd like to partake in that micro center special. Unfortunately the nearest micro center store is almost a 4 hour drive 1 way and 200 miles. 400 miles round trip in gas right now would make it about the same price of Amazon with free delivery 🤔 still be nice though. 👍
I was just thinking the small build size and small footprint would make these good for a print farm.
For the price point it's not bad. Right now it's under $60 for black Friday
Would you still recommend this 3d printer or what is the best budget 3d printer in your opinion?
if you got the money to spare i would recommend the elegoo neptune 2 if your planning to print alot, but if you are just planning to play around and learn, this is not a bad start
@@NovaspiritTech looking to do a few print a week personal use nothing crazy ... Thank you price is not bad
The whole thing weighs about the same as a 1kg spool of filament (1kg Filament + ~300g spool)
dude there is some kind of crackling teardrop kinda noise in your videos. I have noticed this on few other channels as well. it wasnt there in the car video you made recently though.
P.S. octoprint4a on a cellphone WILL work with this...like you said...standard Marlin firmware :)
how you been my friend
Full tuning video.😇
What ubuntu flavor you running?
ubuntu desktop 20.04 with dracula theme, i have a video on that
Only issue is they use the geared 28byj-48 steppers (there will always be slop in the gearing), so printing speeds (in order to not overheat the steppers) is around 12mm/s or below...anything faster will burn them out pretty quickly
(look up printnplay's build of a DIY cherry 3D printer that uses these steppers..he goes into depth on them
ua-cam.com/play/PLdmirEcV7DnG2HXWSqH-S4a36gDGy6XI9.html)
I have the Easythreed x1 and it prints quite well (but slowly)..when setting up Cura (or whatever slicer you use) make sure you dial down the print speed.
I really like the new gantry cartesian style K1...I might get one of those too!!!
P.S. Use a brim, not a raft to prevent curling (due to shrinkage) on the edges of parts
Durability test! Did it last a month? I bought two and both lasted a week.
What broke? Did you try to print at higher speeds?
@@sherlockhomes9919 the stepper motors don't have ball bearings so they wear out and fail really fast. The drive belts are obviously made of rubber so they act like a rubber band pulling the drive shafts in one direction. The motor bushings wear out so bad that the motor shaft becomes visibly angled, start making noise and then the prints start to fail.

I think the name of the company is Easy Three D (easy 3D)
Is this thing direct drive? :)
