- JustPlanes has filmed landings in Nice for 25 years and every time it was Runway 04. This flight on NORWEGIAN Boeing 787 was our lucky day as we were given runway 22R and during a sunset with a beautiful overflight of the city of Nice and what a stunning approach.
If you’re interested in the complete details on how this approach works, stay tuned, after the landing our Captain will explain this in details.

Hey, I know both of those guys! Big Boeings tend to require a firm landing. The Boeing 787 Flight Crew Training Manual (FCTM) specifically states "Do not allow the airplane to float or attempt to hold it off. Fly the airplane onto the runway at the desired touchdown point and at the desired airspeed." It further states "Do not prolong the flare in an attempt to achieve a perfectly smooth touchdown. A smooth touchdown is not the criterion for a safe landing."
Well all of us were not there, and I don't think we can judge that was a"'frim"landing or actually a hard landing
@@etonchen7707 - I agree completely. My comment was in response to those who were critical of what appeared to be a hard, or firm, landing. My point was that a firm landing in a big Boeing is not a bad thing by any means, and attempting to get a smooth landing is in fact poor technique.
I thought you were sticking up for the pilot that probably mad a hard landing, but if it's only a firm landing, your point is right.
Not on 787 only, almost all other aircraft type manual has that sacred verse on it.
As funny comment.. “ ouch “ but yeah, it was a very good landing.
This was a good landing. 1. It's the shorter of the two runways, as well as having an early designated runway exit, meaning autobrake was set to 3. This means that a little bit of comfort was sacrificed on landing. Greasing is nice but not always wanted.
Nah Bill. He could have softened it up a lot. That pilot was behind the plane the moment he took the controls. Honestly, they're lucky to be alive.
Bill Bilson could’ve resulted in structural damage
Layth 786 that was absolutely nowhere near firm enough to cause any damage.
Fantastic video thanks for sharing. I live on the promenade close to the airport...it never ceases to amaze me how little time the larger aircraft have to line up after making the left turn (around the Negresco hotel) on the cours saleya approach, particularly the Emirates A380 which arrives daily.
Enjoyed the breakdown the Captain did about the approach and Landing. Very enjoyable Video, thanks.
Watch out in the comments below! There seem to be some extremely knowledgeable FSX pilots critiquing the landing!
Spot on - the reason I dont read the comment section any more.

Smooth well done Capt., when the daily drive requires the use of the clutch, stick, break and some fun. Nice TD and sunset too !
Love his clear explanation abt charts and its components 👏
There was absolutely nothing wrong with this landing. The pilot was exactly on glide slope as the papi lights indicate. And this is not a leaf falling slowly from a tree... the plane did not bounce, it does not matter the least bit if it was not a "greaser".
Gosh. What a smash down.
Yup
Ya get what ya pay for 😀
it must be hurt
Flying Dutchman could be that the pilots were more concerned with getting the plane down instead of making a smooth landing on the shorter runway
Wow, so many spare time/weekend/nice weather flightsim "pilots" here being upset about a slightly bumpier landing following a difficult approach procedure. Why don't y'all become *real* pilots and impress the rest of us with your groundbreaking skills?! I know why...you'd already be dizzy after the approach briefing, and then have to do it in real time at flight speed. Oh and....there's no reloading when you f****d up.
cant wait to hear the non pilots opinion on how the landing was
Always plenty of non flying experts
You probably dont give a shit but does anyone know a tool to log back into an instagram account?
I stupidly forgot the login password. I love any tricks you can offer me.
@Bruce Denver Instablaster =)
@Rex Bowie i really appreciate your reply. I found the site through google and Im in the hacking process now.
I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
@Rex Bowie it worked and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thank you so much you saved my account :D
What a hard landing!!! But very beautiful approach.
Interesting how they set the auto brakes to 3 on short final ? Normally it’s done on the decent checklist
last call
I was gonna say the same thing!
descent
Regarding Manual Flight ...
- If the flight director commands are not to be followed, the F/D’s should be turned off. In this case once A/P is off and F/D’s recycled the F/D steering indications are the default modes HDG HOLD AND ALT. This is unuseful info for the PF . So “when leaving the MDA be prepared to disengage the autopilot and turn both F/D’s OFF, then PM’s ON.
- 300 ft above the MDA the MCP altitude should be reset to the MAA. On the visual segment there is a minimum altitude of 1,000 ft on the track 303 (but since already maintaining visual separation there is no actual need to set it on the MCP). But could be a would practice in order to get any close to those 677’ and 858’ obstacles.
- on final below the MSA the preferred pitch modes for a NON-ILS Instrument App are V/S or FPA, FLCH is not the recommended mode. And consideration should be taken that as per Non-AFM Operation Info “Do not use FLCH on final approach below 1,00 feet above AFE) in this case ALT was capture at 1,000 ft but the risk to continue on HOLD mode for the A/T below 1,000 feet AFE should be avoided.
Paulo Reyes good old copy and paste
Trucker Ant I don’t know what do you mean by old? Old it’s latest FCOM/FCTM revision?
*What an amazing visual indeed!*
Btw, that landing was pretty hard! 😬
testing those damn shock absorvers
Well explained captain about the visual approach.
Superb landing and a detailed explanation about the approach
Thank you for the explanation on what you did.
Absolutely amazing approach and landing.. 🛬
Wow what an amazing landing ... So cool to see what the pilots are actually doing in the cockpit... Well done to them👌🏻👍🏻
Well detailed explanation 👍
a little rough on the landing but he made...good stuff..
Good landing considering that runway seemed a little short.
Great video indeed. Unusual challenge/response CRM. Perhaps the FO was too new or the captain had never flew with this FO. Nonetheless, superb job.
He murdered them gears!!
Short runway that's why
WcKd cysin rgr
Dat was a hard landing
Standard
It was a great approach and landing.
PAPIs set at 3.5 degree at Nice, probably contributed to the harder landing.
That was soooooo hardlanding
Its was fine
This was not a hard landing by any means. Seemed perfectly normal to me
Why is there always someone like you on every aviation video? Bore off.
Thanks for the video
There was nothing bad about this landing,...pretty standard. He did not bounce, and noise we'd have been much louder for a slam dunk. He followed normal procedures.
Nyc vid.. I lov aviation so much.. 10x for the awesome vid
Excellent CRM
With this captain, friendly is at an extra 7,99. 8,99 if you combine it with a drink.
I was at the Nice airport 2 days ago
Very informative great video, thanks!
Great!! Love the landing!!!!!!
Excelente vídeo amigo
Just awesome !
im not a pilot.. and my opinion as passsenger, a good landing is the best except bad weather.. if u say hard or firm landing doesnt matter, whats the point of being a good pilot and experienced like a captain...i know, the good pilot want the best in their job and always provide the best for the passenger... so, dont take it easy and do your best pilot!!! May God bless U..PEACE, TQ.
I wanna fly the 787!
Mark Owen i wanna fly the A350
I wanna fly both
@@Username-ww2cd A350 too!

Nice
Muito bom!
The first officer seems to be mikkelthepilot, search him on Instagram
Does he have a YT channel?
Sigis Travel Videos nop he doesn’t
@@bx713 Ok
Why „Visual Approach“?! During the approach briefing the F/O said, they are cleared for the VOR B approach!
You did not watch the whole video?
Not a butter landing this time
GegenzatZ usually not
Airwipe not when its a short runway. It was a great approach and landing!
It's a hard landing man
GREAT NICE MOVIE
#2 Wire.....that works. But Im not a pilot, so forgive my humor
that actually made me laugh
The sound is a bit unusual when the touched the ground !
Thats normal
Why did a Norwegian 787 land in Nice in the first place ?
Someone says “oh damn look at this hard landing! He don’t BuTeR thE bReAD!!”. A safe landing, line-up, in the touchdown zone it’s better than a “buTeR” landing. Please exit your sim...
Is no one going to address the man jumping in the right corner 8:31
Slammmin landing! :P
Short runway obviously
why not just wear sunglasses guys !! decent a bit fast hence the bumpy landing.
George Lynch The descent was NOT a bit fast. The approach and Vref speeds are determined by the plane's computers taking into account weight, temperature, density altitude. Theses pilots are professionals and they fly a stabilized approach at the programmed speeds.
@@Gilles45 really LOL so Mr Pilot explain that landing go ???
Perfectly safe landing in my opinion.
Looked like a slightly hard touchdown to me but I’m not a pilot.
It seemed a little hard to me as well but Nice runways aren’t really long so that’s justified
Thunderous landing 😅ex navy pilots?
it was a bit harsh, wasn't it?
Is it me ... or was that was a hard landing
That was a bit firm.
Did he even flare? ✅😂
Its a short runway. He would’ve floated, you also heard him switch to autobrake 3. In the end it was a great approach and landing.
oh please guys this short runway, you guys want overshoot ?? Thats why capt not hold pitch and as soon as possible pull the yoke.
C1, not B1
landing so hard that I felt my phone vibrate.
I think the bald pilot was a ryanair pilot before this airline. Because gpws jumps 50 to 30. We can barely say gpws didnt catch the descent rate. This landing even hurt me 😠
Gorkem Karakaya it jumps from 50 to 30 because the 40 callout isnt programmed, it had nothing to do with the landing. As for the landing itself, I love it! Very firm and no nonsense especially in Nice where the runway is relatively short and you do not want to risk going around because you wanted to butter the landing
Looks like the 787 is not modern, all Nice approaches are now RNAV at least LNAV/VNAV !
The 787 is capable of performing RNAV approaches, they were probably given the visual by ATC, as the visual is issued a lot at Nice
We have the flightsim pilots in the comment section about the landing smhh
😍😍😍😍

no no no ...not norwegian ...but the dreamliner ..yes!
Yup, I agree. Love the 787 but not Norwegian
I don't know much but it seemed like they put the gear down super early
To slow down and be ready because the runway was very short
@@cysinkaaewoods55 That makes sense. Thank you.
Hard landing
Как вагон уронил
Найс оОо наааййс.
A Litle bit Hard/ Have more push up
Not very a gentle landing
What do you expect the runway was super short had to bring down as soon as possible
Maybe you do a better job in FSX.
A 100 million dollar plane and they cant afford a 10 dollar sun visor?
Or wear a pair of Ray Bans....
needed a more pronounced flare. Period.
What a fking complicated approach, why do they even have such nonsense approaches in the current high tech era. I hate it. Make it short and simple. RNAV or ILS. That’s all
I work for an airline company in Belgium. If we exceed the speeds along the arrival we have to pay a fine. They are very strict in NCE.
because there is high terrain in what the normal ILS or RNAV path would be. They could also do a RNP approach but not all airplanes are capable of it, so you still need a visual.
Yeah, I agree. Just a simple RNAV would do the trick
RNAV/VOR are the same in LFMN they all end in visual for 22R/L, 4R/L have ILS but only used when visual conditions are not met. all this is done for noise abatement and to not fly above populated area.
22s landings are harder than the 4s, the pilot's job is to land the aircraft safely which he did and with that kind of approach he got the job done as prescribed
bad landing and bad taxi
Ur stupid that'd a short runway so they had to bring down as soon as possible
Edward de medts your the pilot in chief I guess...
Bad landing
