This is an example of getting to know your partner before you get married. It's one simple question...how do you pay your bills? Maybe even how much debt do you have? Just know your partner before you jump in to marriage or having babies with someone.
Honestly, yes. I had a wake-up call that forced me to get my debts in order after a break-up, and I shudder to think how I would have dealt with this convo w/ that partner if we’d ever had it. Honestly, burying your head in the sand about debt can really contribute to feeling insecure in a relationship overall as well. I’m sure that cloud over my head influenced my behavior even tho we didn’t discuss it…
When my last bf said to get married I asked him to make a budget to see where the house income would be coming from and what we would be spending the money on; he like had no idea what I’m talking about. I left him.
It's about right if you're doing a meal-delivery service, especially if it's organic. But until you have that type of money, I'm not Dave Ramsey, eat beans and rice or rice and beans.
I was living in Canada when this show was taped. The conversion rate was very favorable for US dollars. I noticed on her budget charts, some money is Canadian and some is US which is confusing- but living in Canada using Canadian currency, was expensive.
Lol when she ate the romantic dinner with the napkin tucked into her shirt and was eating the strawberries in bed with the napkin lol. I have a feeling it was his prized hockey uniform that she was not allowed to stain!
The logic of this obtuse couple: we don't have the money, but we do whatever we wish and somehow we will pay for it. People, you don't make enough money to travel and live as if it is holiday time all the time!
That extra money she pulled in should have been for bills too. Not for a vacation. I doubt they actually stuck to their long term plan. I can't believe she cried because she wanted to go on a cruise. First world problems. I worry for their marriage if his ideal is a housewife who stays home while he plays hockey and her ideal is letting him and drowning herself in debt because she thinks she can buy happiness. I'm happily married and don't need a fancy vacation for my anniversary. Being together and not in a debtor's prison is enough for both of us.
She needs to go back to work many people have the same problems but have to work know matter what. She just wants to float by. Her husband is acting like he’s a single man enjoying more of his time with his friends and destroying them financially.
Maybe she's the one responsible for seeing the bills get paid. I might be wrong. But I think he and she both contribute some money, but she is the administrator of all the money. Nothing wrong with one person managing the money, but they need to be of one-mind and have mutual monetary goals.
Why would he ever change? He still acts like he is single but has a bang-maid-mom at home I hope the wife either pushed him to keep up the pace or left him
I Couldn't stomach finishing this episode - once she was bawling her eyes out for the cruise that they "needed". I though Gail was too nice - Gail should have stayed strong and said "Find a cheaper way to celebrate your anniversary" like she does to so many other couples on this show. I'm disappointed in Gail that she was swayed by the tears. Gail should have forced her to make money, and it should have gone to pay for the cruise they already had!
"I think we need it" ??? Jeeeeeeeesus We have a family income of over 250000 and we have gone on 2 trips in 5 years We work our asses off. WTH were they thinking?
@@ykook7000 when Gail says people need to do "chores" around the house, she pronounces it with a soft "sh" ("shores" almost), not a hard "ch". Very British. And her sayings also 😊
Husband should be home budgeting, planning meals, shopping for groceries, cooking, cleaning with the wife (a different activity every night) instead of playing hockey every nite with buddies. This would get them on track and on same plan/goal together and he wouldn’t “need” his buddies so much!
They are not ready for marriage. I don't know why she insist that they have a romantic evening together. Marriage is not just about romance. it's about two people coming together in a contractual agreement, including working on finances. They both need to grow up, and smell the coffee.
Zari valentine .probably couldn’t find a job in the field she went to college for. I see that happen a lot, people spend all that money for college and end up working in factories or retail just to make a living while waiting for the jobs they are schooled in to open up.

I wish she wouldn’t give cash rewards. I’d like to see how people do this on their own. And when you are paying down debt you don’t get to take on new classes.
It’s the only way she can punish couples who don’t bother, or reward those who do put some effort in. Otherwise, would they really bother, particularly at the start before reality has hit them?
I was just on leave because of anxiety and I could barely leave my bed. And she is going on a cruise when her stress comes from their debt? Don't make a joke out of a real problem.
How do you not have a partnership prior to marriage? My husband and I always had a partnership before we got married, for example I handle the finances but we discuss it together.
Are you kidding me?? The show is sending them away for a weekend?? Don't these people take enough vacations?? This next cruise will be their 4th vacation in a year.
I don't understand the mentality of some people. She says that she knows that much of the debt is from them spending too much, yet continues to spend. She also takes LoA from work because it's stressing her out. Surely that means her income is reduced slightly so not helping the situation and then she books a cruise - making the problem even worse.
We went in a $3500 cruise last tear. All paid for in advance. With cruise clothes and cruise entertainment the total was $7k. All paid for in cash. Thank god we didn’t use any cc. Cruises always cost more than expected.

I left him.
Yes, that's a great question to ask. And I'd also say keep digging, just to be sure they're being completely transparent
150$ a week for food for two people is really high
It's about right if you're doing a meal-delivery service, especially if it's organic. But until you have that type of money, I'm not Dave Ramsey, eat beans and rice or rice and beans.
Depends on where you live.
It's canuckian
@@jdstep97 Your health is your wealth so you need a varied diet
I was living in Canada when this show was taped. The conversion rate was very favorable for US dollars. I noticed on her budget charts, some money is Canadian and some is US which is confusing- but living in Canada using Canadian currency, was expensive.
Me: *Is too stressed from my large student debt, so I work two full-time jobs to try and pay it off faster*.
You don’t make enough money to travel!
But they neeeeeeeeeeeeed it!
I guess spending $800 a month at department stores is a great coping mechanism for stress......
Lol when she ate the romantic dinner with the napkin tucked into her shirt and was eating the strawberries in bed with the napkin lol. I have a feeling it was his prized hockey uniform that she was not allowed to stain!
"I'll sell myself so I can pay for the cruise!" Even as a joke, that was not funny
The first time she cries is because of a cruise. She’s really taking this seriously.
I'm 60, and never been on a cruise. I went to Hawaii when I was 26. That's all. She's crying because she NEEDS the cruise. OMG! Snowflakes! 😞😓
I’m more stressed watching this than they are living it 😂 I wish I had this level of ignorance sometimes
The logic of this obtuse couple: we don't have the money, but we do whatever we wish and somehow we will pay for it. People, you don't make enough money to travel and live as if it is holiday time all the time!
It is SO irritating when people laugh when they're being advised how clueless they are!
Doing sports 5 times a week and still being fat is quite an accomplishment
Something tells me he does more than hang out with the buddies.
Shannon Taylor IKR?? I’m 45 and have never been on a real vacation. There are more pressing things to pay for.
Interesting that the "stress didnt impact her ability to get off her butt to earn money to pay for the cruise.
She "needs" the cruise because its the only way she can get her husband to pay any attention to her.
Both of these two are so immature there is no way they changed after Gail's intervention.
She needs to go back to work many people have the same problems but have to work know matter what. She just wants to float by. Her husband is acting like he’s a single man enjoying more of his time with his friends and destroying them financially.
Wait...is SHE paying ALL the HOUSEHOLD BILLS?!!😵 Did I hear this wrong??? lol
Maybe she's the one responsible for seeing the bills get paid. I might be wrong. But I think he and she both contribute some money, but she is the administrator of all the money. Nothing wrong with one person managing the money, but they need to be of one-mind and have mutual monetary goals.
Jez. 23 meaning shes been working what a year? Taken 4 vacations and shes on leave for “stress”. She has no idea what stress even is
Why would he ever change? He still acts like he is single but has a bang-maid-mom at home
I hope the wife either pushed him to keep up the pace or left him
I Couldn't stomach finishing this episode - once she was bawling her eyes out for the cruise that they "needed".
You had to finish the episode to see that. 😂
I only managed one cruise last year. Im thinkinb of setting up a go fund me
😂
"I think we need it" ??? Jeeeeeeeesus We have a family income of over 250000 and we have gone on 2 trips in 5 years We work our asses off. WTH were they thinking?
I love her accent! I thought it was British, but its Canadian and Jamaican!!! so interesting
How did you get British 🤣
@@ykook7000 when Gail says people need to do "chores" around the house, she pronounces it with a soft "sh" ("shores" almost), not a hard "ch". Very British. And her sayings also 😊
@@user-ti8bw1ri5hin England we say it with a hard “ch”. She has got an interesting accent
Husband needs to grow up. She married a man child. She doesn’t know it but she already HAS a baby 😢
Very well said
Because she wants to feel like he cares about her.
@@morgan4474 Him acting like an adult, and not a playful child would be showing that he cared!
Marriage isn't solely about romance but it includes it.
Her stress leave is a joke. She needs to be fired.
Why does she have student loans to become a wedding planner? I'm honestly curious, is that required?
I think that's just her side job to pay off the cruise.
Zari valentine .probably couldn’t find a job in the field she went to college for. I see that happen a lot, people spend all that money for college and end up working in factories or retail just to make a living while waiting for the jobs they are schooled in to open up.
Might have a degree in hospitality and her employer channeled her into the wedding side of the business. But an apprenticeship is far more valuable than a four year degree.
I don't mind the concept of a stress leave but if it's because of debt, you probably should be working. Just saying.
In what world does it make sense to say "I'm so stressed about my debt that I need to stop working."
Please do an update story and all these couples to see who really learned and who stayed the same.
Once I saw a couple get $0.00.
That's how they get people to apply for the show and air their dirty laundry ..otherwise no one would go on the show
I was just on leave because of anxiety and I could barely leave my bed. And she is going on a cruise when her stress comes from their debt? Don't make a joke out of a real problem.
this show aired over 10 years ago ... there is no way they aren't divorced by now.
That 5,000.00 won’t last a Day.
Don't you think she'll use it for the cruise??
I was thinking the same thing!
I want Gail's budget binder! How much to hire Gail?
She has everything available online. Check it out
it's called a sheet of paper
and they sell 3 ring binders at dollar tree for a $1
dont be an idiot
@@ChristoherWGray you are absolutely correct. I can do a budget and I am very good at it.
I don't need anyone to tell me how to budget.
@@ChristoherWGray that was rude.
@@AshleyNicole-ct7gh I've seen his other comments on these videos. He's a jerk.
whoa whoa whoa whoa
did she really say she is on "stress leave" from work?
what is wrong with Canada?
Thank you for posting this! Can't wait for episode 13!!!
23.
And on STRESS LEAVE?
ARE YOU KIDDING?!
Want kids???? Jeez.. they are kids themselves.. what chance does a baby have with those two
How do you not have a partnership prior to marriage? My husband and I always had a partnership before we got married, for example I handle the finances but we discuss it together.
Are you kidding me?? The show is sending them away for a weekend?? Don't these people take enough vacations?? This next cruise will be their 4th vacation in a year.
Gail they don’t need another holiday as a gift. Honestly!
Love to see how much his hockey buddies make
Something tells me he is on the wrong end of that ladder
Dumb and Dumber. It’s funny because some people can’t get that much credit card spending limit! Hmmmm
I know she is wanting the cruise but I never do anything big for our anniversary. You have to pick and choose when your trying out of debt.
I don't understand the mentality of some people. She says that she knows that much of the debt is from them spending too much, yet continues to spend. She also takes LoA from work because it's stressing her out. Surely that means her income is reduced slightly so not helping the situation and then she books a cruise - making the problem even worse.
I was thinking about going on a cruise once but I decided to save my money
We went in a $3500 cruise last tear. All paid for in advance. With cruise clothes and cruise entertainment the total was $7k. All paid for in cash. Thank god we didn’t use any cc. Cruises always cost more than expected.
I've seen this one multiple times and only now did I notice they have cutlery as cupboard handles.....
These people are waaaay better off then most 150.00 week for just food!? There young so Hopfully they learn from this experience. They will have a decent life. Be thankful for what's been HANDED to them.
keep in mind this is like 15 years old
@@christian_cantarutti ya this was aired in 2005 2006 I graduated hs 2002 yes 150 a week for food that's insane!
Two cruises in a single year when neither of them make over 30k?? Jeez
4 cruises in a year... and she made really good money
