This video was made before the launch. As it turns out, the 600W is only seen on AIB cards (non-Founders) and only if you overlock. Somewhere around 450W is the normal maximum. You still want a 1000W power suppply, though. Also it looks like there are not as many of these cards available at launch as they are sold out at most retailers.

I have a Gigabyte 4090 installed in a LIAN LI O11 Dynamic EVO case mounted vertical and it fits fine in a fairly compact overall size case (in terms of height). Unless you overclock (and with the huge performance level what is the point) the wattage pull is not 600 but rather 450 which is not much more than the 3090 TI. Agree it is a bit extream, but mine is working just fine not overclocked, the case temperature is not much different than the 3090 and the room is not over heated. Since the 16 GB 4080 is so ridiculously over priced vs the previous model it made more sense for me to go with the 4090 which is priced just $100 over the previous model. I feel like I am getting more for my money on a comparative basis.

Anyway, according to Tom's Hardware, the fastest single-thread CPU they tested was the Core i9-12900K. That's about 50% faster than what I've got. So assuming the CPU is the bottleneck, I might be able to get to 30 fps if I upgrade to that processor. Mike's point re: power/performance stand. but the power specs are off. The connectors are cabable of delivering 600W but the stock 4090 FE pulls 450W. ~500 if you clock the snot out of it. That is still a ton of power, but it's not 600W. It's the same as power requirement of the 3090 Ti. The 3080 pulls down 300-350. 3080 Ti and 3090 move up to 400W.
The scary thing, besides the price, is that the 4090 isn't the full AD102 chip. The full chip that will go into the 4090 Ti is going to suck down 500W+ I'm sure. yikes!
The other thing is that the x090 and x080 are normally the same chip. The 4080 just has parts of it turned off to avoid defects in the die. In the 40 series they are not. The difference between the 4090, 4080 16GB and 4080 12GB will be larger than normal, because they are all based on different chips and have different core counts and mem buses.

Only Ampere 80 class was a 102 (GA102) die. The 2080 was a TU104 , the 1080 was GP104, and 980 was GM204. 4080 16gb is an AD103. Now the highest skus from each generation are typically 102 dies like, the 2080ti is the TU102, the 1080ti is GP102, and 980ti was actually a GM200. Samsung 8nm was not a good node compared to TSMC and that is why you see the 3090ti/3090/3080ti/3080 all so close in performance, all on the same 102 die. Ampere was the anomaly and not the norm.

The 4090 is not going to be 20% better than the 4080 16gb. It's around 40% faster (1.82x a 3090 vs 1.3x). Which makes sense as the 4080 16gb is more like a 4070 given it's tiny die (379 mm^2) and tiny 256 bit bus.
For whatever reason, Nvidia has priced this generation so people will either buy the 4090 or Ampere. The 4080 cards are meant to be a joke that people should avoid, for now anyway. The cards people should be waiting for are RDNA 3, which look like they'll be faster than Lovelace at rasterization and be significantly cheaper.
The 4090 is also 450 watts, not 600. It seems to get to well above 3 ghz when OC'd above 500 watts, so OCing it to over 600 would just be a waste of power. Likely the card can also be undervolted to 350-400 watts but retain most of the performance anyway.

Regarding a PSU, I'm starting from scratch, I'm going with a Seasonic 1600W. My only real completely valid complaint is DisplayPort 1.4a versus DisplayPort 2.0 which is completely asinine. My 175Hz 3440x1440 monitor can't even run at 10-bit, instead, I'm stuck at 8-bit. I'm not a fan of G-Sync over HDMI. 2.1 and there's no way I'm running my monitor using DSC.
Unfortunately, that is assuming I can get the RTX 4090 I want, it's probably going to be sitting in the box for a month or two or three. Alder Lake was a pain because you cannot get fast DDR5 kits and those you could get were junk and insanely overpriced. They're not ready for this lunch either. There's still a shortage of "fast" (7200+) DDR5, it's still expensive and there's no PSUs readily available using dual 12VHPWR. Totally the cart before the horse yet again.

The 3090ti has a better Power delivery system (VRM's) to the GPU chip.... on top of using single sided VRAM... 2gb modules.
The problem with the regular 3090 is all models use dual sided VRAM. That's a 1gb module on both the front and back of the card. The VRAM modules on the backside have trouble staying cool.
The primary problem here is the GDDR6x VRAM runs hot. I have an EVGA FTW3 3080ti, and if I game at 4k then the VRAM gets up to 86c (single sided). EVGA did an exceptional job with the VRAM cooling on their FTW3 cards.
The other problem is the mining part. Most people mined Ethereum, which is memory intensive and hard on the VRAM. Miners also got a better hashrate by overclocking the memory, which makes the memory run hotter. Some miners don't know Jack about overclocking, and some of them lack experience with computer hardware, so they may not have known to check temperatures or know what temperatures are acceptable.
There are people that will defend miners by saying they downclocked and undervolted the card.... but that's only the GPU Core... and not all miners did this. GDDR6x runs hot and it's a whole other animal. Personally I would recommend a new card if you can afford it, because it's going to come with a warranty. Most Board partners require proof of purchase to do warranty repair. Also, a new card isn't going to be abused.

I put a split system aircon in my room with my 3090. I know what you are saying.

You do want to get RTX 4090 if you are playing MSFS which most of us are, that is a power hungry game/sim

why not compare it to a 3090 or 3090ti.......you know that 3080 is significantly smaller than a 3090......

Until game technology catches up these cards are a waste of time and money, i’ve got a 3090 leftover from mining and it runs everything on ultra, this should be a flop series card because there is no need for it, evga maybe knew something we didn’t 😀

In my testing, I am finding lots of cpu bottlenecks, but very few gpu bottlenecks.

Rumor has it? .... Mis in for ma tion.
    You are spectulating.
Let me spectulate a second. Most people buying a 4090...
    A. Don't care about the power draw (funny that you compared the MAX draw of the 4090 to the required for the 4080, oopsie)
    B. People buying a 4090 will more that likely buy a case that can easily support its size.
I'll stop at just two point to keep this "click bait" video comment short.

The fans are going to be working really hard to get the heat out? Maybe when doing some crazy overclocking... My 3090 Ti does fine with the fans pretty low in my similarly sized case. I bet the 4090 will be pretty close to the same.

Duh not for X plane 11/12 the game after all these years is so CPU bound its no fun.
