Amazing stuff. I just purchased Turn it on 12” level 42 by DMX Krew FANTASTIC. My father had a studio in his house and built a mini moog. He had the pro one and roland drum machine Jupiter 8 and other stuff. Sadly l didn’t know how to use that stuff so l sold it all and the pro one went to the netherlands. My father was big into synth. He was an electrical engineer and an editor for london weekend television but music was his hobby. Great to see people like you using this stuff. Regards P Rowlands Harrow.
That ms10 was flooded in Aphex' basement studio. It was covered in RDJ's feces haha!! By the way, this video should be like 5 times longer!! Let the man speak, he's a legend to many!
When he was in Sydney about 15 years ago, I went up to him and told him what a legend I think he is. He was very polite, humble and interesting to chat with.
@@guruleinii Yeah that's a true story actually! Don't know if there was actually any shit on it, but it came out of Richard's basement after a flood. Remember, these guys know each other since they where 16.
Back in the day, people who wrote Acid like A guy called Gerald were incredibly talented musicians. As he said, you can pay serious money for those machines, but they wont turn you into a good musician!
"I sold the 909, a bit foolish maybe" Au contraire, sell more, don't let gear acquisition syndrome (GAS) be a bane. Less is more. And you'll be much richer too!
Ehhh it's analogue systems mate, there is a doepfer sequencer on the top left of that modular rack. As he said he never paid up the nose for gear, so who knows that modular rack could even be a gift from someone who didn't need it anymore 😅
I've seen him say in another interview that when he was first buying gear it was samplers that were big money and synths were really cheap in comparison. Yer another reason to not just buy what is popular.
This days if you want to have this kind of synths you have to pay. It just how it is that's all. Like the guy but to be cool you don't have to buy cheap stuff.
I agree you cannot buy telant. I mean you don't have to be cool so you buy cheap gear and make great music. I mean that in the 90s when I was growing up I listen the music and I didn't know how they were making this kind of music. When I found out it was too late and the prices were already high. I just wanted to feel how it is to play some music in this same way they were making it back in the 90s. You have one live and I don't have anything to spend my many on so why I cannot buy it just for myself. I mean people no need to judge people that buying this old overpirced gear because they want to be cool. Not everyone is like that. They just want to do it for themself. Thats all.
The downside to all this retro gear is the cost of maintenance, increasingly rare parts, and alot of the older ones are very heavy, so good luck with that house move! And Roland just brought out the boutique series....
I love how he always says he's 'from' DMX Krew. Over 20 years maintaining the facade that he's an entire band, I love it.
The Machines are the members
Facade indeed
Nobody rocks the beatbox like the DMX does
@@InfiltrateIndustries When I saw him live in Sydney he actually stopped the music at one point and started beatboxing mid show.
Here is some gear he doesnt mention ( I gathered this from other interviews and from his production podcast)
Roland PH-830
Eventide Ultra Harmonizer Model H3000
Boss SE-50
Yamaha FX500
Yamaha SU-700 Sampler
Lexicon MPX 1
Yamaha TX81Z
Evolution EVS 1
Roland Juno-60
Oberheim Xpander
Kurzweil K2000RS
Roland MKS-80 with Roland Controller (super jupiter)
crumar bit 01 rack expander
and last but not least, left to his mixing desk (across from the synth keyboards) is an original rhodes vintage piano
I like to mention that I researched interviews he did after this studio video tour, mainly the stamp the wax 2020 interview!
and as Bonus, his setup from the early 90s:
Fostex 4 Channel Tape Recorder
Fostex 8 Channel Rack Mixer
Yamaha DSR-2000 (this is pretty much his very first FM synth when he was 15 years old!)
12Bit Akai Vintage sampling keyboard, I forgot the name (Legowelt has one as well in his latest studio tour)
Boss DR 550 and Alesis SR-16
(SH-101)
I need to see more. This dude is one of my very favorite producers.

Not even 3 minutes.... please tell me this is the intro to a much longer piece??
That ms10 was flooded in Aphex' basement studio. It was covered in RDJ's feces haha!! By the way, this video should be like 5 times longer!! Let the man speak, he's a legend to many!
jep
Totally, three minutes is nowhere near enough time for these videos.
When he was in Sydney about 15 years ago, I went up to him and told him what a legend I think he is. He was very polite, humble and interesting to chat with.
And you believe that?
@@guruleinii Yeah that's a true story actually! Don't know if there was actually any shit on it, but it came out of Richard's basement after a flood. Remember, these guys know each other since they where 16.
Ed’s such dude! His live shows are always great. 👍🏽👍🏽
I agree to the fact I prefer a regular synth over a modular synth
Gosh these people were so lucky who got to buy all these old synths for so cheap back in a day.
Behringer.
Great attitude and studio!
Great video! Only wish it was longer!
Awesome 👍😎

PleRexics This is relevant here because?
He means you dont need 20 analogs to churn out formulaic minmal techno, coz it's MINIMAL. Juan Atkins, Derrick May just had the budget yamaha Dx100...
Gear Acquisition Syndrome
2:15 Anyone recognise that mixer?
soundcraft ghost
Like his style! Cool guy
I really like his music, it's very cool👍👍👍

That last thing he said was very well put.

He could sell the SH09, it's a beginners synth. Was my first
Крутой чувак
Those gears are not cheap at all
nowadays, no.
I've seen him say in another interview that when he was first buying gear it was samplers that were big money and synths were really cheap in comparison. Yer another reason to not just buy what is popular.
He almost makes it sound boring. Don't talk about electronic music
This days if you want to have this kind of synths you have to pay. It just how it is that's all. Like the guy but to be cool you don't have to buy cheap stuff.
blurryyyy but people can buy cheap gear nowadays and make amazing music. You can't buy talent

looks good...but ....is he anorexic ???
schrun no time to eat. Gotta make music
