How can one guy be this good and have such an understanding of electronic music/production AND also complete a PhD in neuroscience?! How are some people so productive at such a high level?!
Neural signal processing involves a lot of the same concepts as sound synthesis. Basically electrophysiology, analyzing the number and the frequency of spikes in neurons and what not is the same as analyzing sound. So the two fields certainly overlap
@@naishkiteboarder That's exactly what I do. I'm doing a Ph.D. in Neuroscience and producing electronic music. I often record brain signals from rats and men, and I send them into synths and DAWs. The results are stunning! The brain is probably the most powerful synth
Max Cooper is another one of these wizards with a quality degree and a deep understanding of electronic music. A high level ability to think translates well into different fields simultaneously.
Not really sure it's relevant considering many of electronic music's most innovative pioneers didn't have degrees, or considering that Max Cooper isn't really that exciting (his visuals are what set him apart, his music isn't particularly deep)
This dude is awesome. I think he did a good job of explaining how it works at a base level while still being able to add in some more complex concepts.
Silhouettes I, II, & III changed my whole life dude. You are up there with Tame Impala with your ability to make me trip sober. Unreal work and production. Inspirational, we need more.
People who say electronic music producers are just a bunch of knob twiddlers need to see this. Knowing how this stuff works must be like learning an instrument in its own right.
That was sick! I've always loved buchla since I was a kid and this was very enjoyable to watch. Electronic music is so cool. Utilizing all the tools you have to create ur own sound is so very unique. Rock and roll of the future💀
yes. I Know. Do you know how much awesome gear you can get for 4 Grand? For example, that's an Octatrack, Analog Four, A Rytm, Digitakt and Digitone..(well, actually I've seen the 296e sell for $2200 used)...

Maybe we can ask him to hook up a mouse with an electrode in its brain to an amplifier and then into a synth

its just obsession with something that you enjoy, with an understanding of how things work.
He's from outer space.
*makes a fucking insane patch*
"It's a complete mess, I'm getting there."
Ok
Mr Professor of electronic music.
That's doctor to you!

It'll take 2 hours to describe? Lemme have a piss, and get a snack. lets do this. Buchla is insanely quirky and unique!

Cosmic slop was mime first💀💀💀 Redman is the shit! Big ups homie
4:08 that impromptu noise and the reaction to it are wonderful
I understood about 15 sentences. Nice.
I’ve only seen Sam DJ which was amazing, but this would be on another level. That setup is nuts, banana jacks everywhere!
The size of that speaker though
Stole off his granny.
Imagine if he got some accidental feedback from that
Wow
Silhouettes I, II, & III changed my whole life dude. You are up there with Tame Impala with your ability to make me trip sober. Unreal work and production. Inspirational, we need more.
Interesting, raw sounds he's harnessing. Now I really want to hear a full track in which he's playing this.

This guy is simply a genius
People who say electronic music producers are just a bunch of knob twiddlers need to see this. Knowing how this stuff works must be like learning an instrument in its own right.
Are they wrong though? He IS technically a knob twiddler, he's just a very fucking good one :)
He is so talented.
Incredible guy.
I knew you were using Buchla the moment someone turned me on to Karakul from CRUSH. Hits hard.
I'm in love.
I’d absolutely kill for a Buchla system
Great to see new artists embracing Buchla stuff!
Buchla is so well known, but still so under used (price?) Always LOVE to hear it!
k___g___ b___ Some people just save up.
@@prototek One module at a time.... slow and steady.
prototek I can barely afford life itself
@@prototek some people can’t afford a twelve thousand dollar small system even if they do save up
I'll listen to you talk about Buchla all day! Also, anyone got any info on those 8u cases he's using?

rock of roll of the future using vintage instruments of the past! in fact, most of this was latent in luigi russolo's 'intonarumori' ... circa 1910!
I’m speechless
the eurorack part felt like i was watching willy wonka make an everlasting gobstopper
please talk for two hours about this
Floating points is dopeness
I love this. I still don't understand wtf is going on, but I love it.

@@jordantheuser nice idea
does anyone know if his ev5 custom pedal ever made it into production?
There's no way you can produce music with this setup and have OCD :o What a producer and sound designer....
Could not imagine how pioneer ddj 100000 would look like ..
Him and DJ Krust should sit down and make something
rich lush single note sub bass
"that doesnt sound very good"
wait
I know what he means but even that simple sound sounded great.
Where did he get the electrical engineering degree ??
That was fuckin rad
Does anyone know what that mixer is? looks like 10 channel + 2 bus? or 4 bus?
Mog Pog sonosax mixer Swiss broadcast tings
dustamc thanks!!
you can snag it for a paltry $20000
Can I send you some screws?
How to use it in real live performance outside freak shows?
Dieter Herten Stadiums and venues are for normies, the only REAL live performances are freak shows you will never get invited to.
Luna Tix I saw a lot of freaky live shows but sometimes if only blips and blurs are produced I get tiered

didn't know he have the same voice of Stewie Griffin (just jocking)
Replace that peddle with a wa peddle!! Or a volume peddle. Hope that helps..
It didn't.
Don’t let this guy near synths, get him a restraining order ASAP
Then plug in the guitar
who wants to start modding pedals? :D
6 min on the buchla, lol.
wow. "it's a complete mess" - and i'm like: whaaaaat? that grooves like shit already!

Lol
fruity loops is just for beginners
Trust me, at some point this will become interesting.
Fruity loops is just for breakfast
Doug Fruity Loops is for Kings who rule the trap house without the need of Logic, Reason, or Abletards
