for those of you searching for this tool, its a SPANNER WRENCH,and should be interchangeable between most bikes, all makes and models. i have a wrench from a 2018 harley 883 sportster but it works on all 5 of my bikes from 1980 cb650 custom, to 95 vulcan 88 1500, to 86 450 rebe,l 02 shadow ,to 78 kz650 and a friends 02 vtx1800. if your lowering the shock(softer) do it by yourself, if tasing the shock,( stiffening) it helps to have someone lift the rear of the bike and get some weight of of f the shock while you turn it but its doable by yourself

Lovenpain not a problem man! Shock bushings should be inspected every few thousand miles. They can split and cause odd tire wear and handling problems. You want to fix them right away if you find them to be bad. Good part numbers are in my shock bushing vid and in the description for the video.
Not at rest no. But it will be slightly lower with the rider on it. But we are talking like maybe 1/8 of an inch here. Why do you want to lower the back of the bike?

@@FFLL2112 I'm also 6'1. I can say that adding an ultimate seat and a back rest where the best things I did to the bike. But lower the rear would not work for me at all. I have a hard time not dragging the floor boards as it is, and that would just make the problem a lot worse. Given how tall you are Might i suggest raising the front end with some fork extenders instead? Change the seat and you will be shocked how much better the seating position is. It was worth every penny trust me.
So quick question I weigh a whopping 115 pounds. So I’d like to soften it up just a little bit. And i’m on an 04 vtx 1303c do you guys think that going down to one will be bad. Or maybe just try it and see? And what is the tool called. Thank you so much!
It can take significant force to get them to move. Try giving it a bit more and see if it will turn. If not then you might need to raise the bike to take the load off the shock to get it to move.
This bike had 3 owners before me. Any one of them or the dealer could have removed it at some point. But yes it is the same tool that should have come in the tool kit with the bike when new.
Its the same for both sides. But you need to be sure there both at the same setting! It will handle odd if there not and puts to much load on one shock over the other.

This will not "lower" the bike hardly at all. But running it on the lowest setting will drop it a little. But you run the risk of bottoming it out. Particularly if your heavy. If you want to lower the bike you will need some progressive shocks that are shorter than the stock ones. But you should not try and lower it 2 inches. Thats WAY too much. You will end up with a lot of problems if you do that. Like the tire hitting the inner fender over bumps and such. And the drive shaft will likely not be happy at that angle either. Remember this is a shaft driven bike and that shaft has U-joints that need to be close to level to last. Its widely accepted that 1 inch is about the safe point for this bike. Any more your going to have problems. My wife is also short. 5 foot 4. She actually stole this bike from me not long after I made this video. LOL She rode it for several years before we moved her to a Kawasaki Vaquero that I lowered 1.15 inches for her. You do not NEED to be flat footed on a bike. Its nice, but not needed! If you need any more help just let me know.
This bike is a 2006 VTX 1300 R model. If your VTX did not come with floorboards stock then its likely a C model or F model and the mounting points for the stock floorboards are no there on your frame. So you cant just bolt the boards from an R model on your bike. This one does have some aftermarket covers on the floorboards. No idea who made them. They were on the bike when I bought it. I also used to have a VTX 1800 C that came with pegs and the only option to get floorboards was to buy aftermarket ones. I went with Cobra boards and loved them on that bike. I have since sold both bikes.
ON that I am not 100% sure. I would say turn the in the correct direction to adjust them down until they stop maybe? I have never tried to adjust mine lower than 1 so not sue if there is a stop there or not. But I would assume there would be.
What search words did you use to find the wrench? Not having much luck finding it. I bought an 04 1300c ( cherry ) but no tool kit, desperately need to adjust the shocks, I have a tool from the aftermarket shocks I put on my Goldwing but am a little leery using it, do not want to booger up the chrome or damage the casing. I can find the whole kit, but all I really need is the adjustment tool. I not cheap, just thrifty (can't help it, it's the Scottish blood in me).

You can try that. But depending on how much you weight it could bottom out and damage the shocks. If you want or need the bike lower you might want to consider a shorter shock. Or a different seat that sits you lower on the bike. Also remember the lower you go the less lean angle you will have before you find hard parts. Even on 3 I drag my boards all the time!
When i bought my bike it was set on 3 and when i took a curve my pegs would scrap would moving it down to 2 or 1 stop that im in the 185 to 195 weight range
Moving it down will lower the bike and make the scrap more often. These bikes don't lean over very far before they find the ground. Your best option is to make sure you lean with the bike, or even more than the bike by moving your upper body a bit to stop the bike from leaning over as far when you corner at higher speeds. At lower speeds where you counter lean, dont counter lean as far so the bike does not lean as much. For your weight solo you should probably be on 2 for the best ride. But that will make you slightly more likely to scrape.
@@bchucky859 No. Probably 3 would work for you. Maybe even 2. Im 285-290 and tall and I run mine on 2 or 3 depending on how I am riding. 2 will give a softer ride, 3 will be firmer, but less likely to scrap if your pushing hard.
I would NOT do that. The pipe wrench is almost for sure going to mar the finish on the shock. And if you look at how they work when you push on them they grab or close on the "pipe". This could dent or deform the shock. I would to use a pipe wrench on mine. A strap wrench would work just as good and likely with no damage. Honestly there really not that hard to move with the factory tool. My WIFE can do it. (This is actually her bike in the video. Mine is a red 1800)
Just did it with some gloves from work and a random alan wrench I got with a part I bought. Worked fine except the side the bike leans on i need someone to hold it up cuz it doesnt grip the spring like the toolm
1 or 2 is the setting you want for a single rider that is not to heavy. If your bottoming out you need to go up to a higher setting. The higher you go the stiffer the shock gets and the harsher your ride will be if you do not have enough weight on the bike for that setting.
Just bought a vtx 1800 and after riding it a while, I noticed how rough every little bump I pass over. I tried adjusting the shocks but it's still not as smooth as I like it to be. Anyone experiencing the same problem?
Where do you have the shocks set? How much do you weigh? What tire pressure are you running? There are a lot of things that can change how the bike rides. Many do feel the VTX bikes ride a little on the firm side. My self included. But most bikes are going to be a little firm. If there too soft they don't handle well in the curves.

Not that I know of. I have tried a strap wrench, but I think thats more work as you have to set it up and its not any easier to use. If you need more leverage you can slide a pipe over the tool to make it longer.
Most people can not do that. Some shocks are easy to turn and others are very stiff. The ones on my 1800 are not as stiff as the ones on my 1300 but both still need a tool to turn them. My buddy has a 1300 and his I can turn by hand. His is the only one I have seen that I could do that with tho. So yours might be like his and easy to turn.
NEVER do that! You will scratch the shocks and cause rust. There are much better ways to adjust the shock. A pipe wrench would be like the last thing I would ever use.
I'm 265lbs my wife is about 170lbs so that's more than 400lbs total and still 4 was plenty. Even with a large bag of gear on the rear rack, we never needed 5. And the bike never bottomed out or felt like it was on the wrong setting in any way. So no, with two 200lb people on the bike you for sure do not need setting 5 unless the shocks are shot.
It should have been with the tool kit that was behind the left side cover. If you did not get one your dealer sucked and they did not give it to you. Every VTX was supposed to get a toolkit that contained that shock tool.
It should have. It was part of the tool kit that should have come with the bike. If you bought yours new the dealer failed to give it to you. If you bought it used it might have been lost over the years by one of the previous owners.

I used a thick leather belt and torqued mine to setting. Took some major force but if you're in a pinch it works, same for seized up oil filters.

It was supposed to. You can buy them on line at a few different places.
So clockwise for higher numbers on right (throttle) side, what about other side. Mine don't have the number stickers anymore.
Its the same for both sides.
But you need to be sure there both at the same setting!

If you set it on 2 or one is too hard the highest the mos vonfortsble on jumps
1 or 2 is the setting you want for a single rider that is not to heavy.
If your bottoming out you need to go up to a higher setting.
The higher you go the stiffer the shock gets and the harsher your ride will be if you do not have enough weight on the bike for that setting.

This is a 1300 R model. All R S and T models have this rear fender.
The C has short fender and the N has a long flat fender.

Dave Smith you don't need the tool, it only serves to knick the chrome. Just grap the shock lower end with both hands and turn.
What kind of pipes do you have? I have Bubs but the pipe is right near my thing.
