Tumblr has desensitized me to this. Also "cursed" content doesn't work if its all curated into one place. It works on Twitter or tumblr because its dispersed between regular posts so it's unexpected. Also these ones are just bad.
even the curated collections of "actually good" cursed comments i've seen are 90% unfunny recycled content

Four months late but yes, I agree. I noticed the same thing with collections of hilariously wrong (or spookily right) comments from before C-19. They're funny in the wild precisely because you aren't expecting them.

One of the saddest things about these terrible cursed comments is that 90% of the time you know exactly which famous comment they're trying to copy or cash in on.
This is honestly an issue on Reddit as a whole. Everyone desperately trying to be the next "Reddit celebrity".
As someone who will look at this subreddit every once in a while, you REALLY need to dig deep to find anything even remotely funny. Just goes to show that 8th grade humour will never escape the pits of dark humour, edgyness, and stupidity.

as an eighth grader, this is wrong. we also make stupid puns and stupid self-aware jokes that aren't funny.

Its nice to know Reddit has not changed in the slightest in the last 4 years since I stopped browsing it regularly.
And it's REALLY nice to know, that literally ALL of the jokes remain the same, so if I should one day suffer from immense amnesia, I can just continue on tipping my fedora to kind reddit strangers thanking them for their gold and commenting something vaguely sexual, not remembering I had ever lost my virginity.

r/HolUp is very similar to this because it's a subreddit that regularly makes popular and it single-handedly has made me try to figure out how to hide subreddits (you can't)
If you want to hide subreddits on mobile, use the Boost for reddit app. I haven't had to suffer r/HolUp and other garbage subs for years, reddit can be kinda pleasant sometimes now. Haven't figured out how to mass filter the stupid comments yet tho

The coconut comment is only cursed if you know about the specific reddit story of the guy that screwed one. If I remember correctly, the coconut got really nasty and moldy and I think he used it more than once, if that story is even remotely true.
ADDING more DISGUSTING details, he kept reusing it without cleaning, and it got infested with maggots, and he found out WHILE doing it again
A cursed conversation that still haunts me today is I tapped on my friend’s belly noticing that she was a bit bloated and asked “aww what’s this?” without any hesitation she replied “rotten eggs” refering to her period being late…

Cursed Comments really strikes me as one of those subreddits that became much worse as it grew. I’ve never been active on it but I’ve seen so many subs that seem to just lose the point once they become big enough to be karma farms.
This is less the kinda curse thats like "oh shit a wizard made my bones fall out" or like, werewolf curse. It's more the subtle curse when you get 3 months down the line and you're like "oh yea these comments gave me a vague sense of depression about the state of the world"

PETA has probably turned more people away from veganism. They’re definitely one of the reasons vegans are bullied on the internet (and in real life)
