So far it seems the open world gameplay is lacking. Needs more random events, settlements, and interactive stuff you’d see in something like RDR2. Edit: im not saying I want BGS to copy elements from other games, I’m just using an example of a game that’s implemented open world concepts so well to the point that the entire game is immersive and exciting to play. That’s all I ask from BGS. If the world truly opens up after a few hours- like you guys insist, I’ll be happy to play it.

I think the first 5-10 hours look like a 7, but everything I've seen past that looks like a 9+ It's a Bethesda game, and I've always enjoyed them. But I'm cool with IGN giving it a 7, as it's only one reviewer's opinion, and I don't mind outlier reviews (unlike some people). It's becoming really annoying that fanboys of any console/studio/IP/etc. feel *ALL* reviews need to universally score the same thing & say the same stuff, otherwise they must be wrong or not credible... If you want everyone to say the same sh*t, why even have multiple reviews? You could just have one big review & leave it at that. No point in retreading the same stuff 50+ more times, especially if you're just going to get butthurt if someone gives a different score than you want. It was annoying when people whined about the 9.0 scores for BG3 ("oh no, it ONLY got a 9/10 instead of a 10/10! Biased haters, waaaah!") and it's annoying now.

Usually with Bethesda games it's best to wait a few months for the big bugs to be ironed out and optimization to improve, so it's a smart choice even if you're hyped for it.

@@t41886 It was not developed for 25 years, it’s the first new IP. It’s been in development for 8 years which for a game this big I’d again say it’s at least good quality. To bring attention to your other point it does share similarities to fallout but what do you expect, basically an updated engine, same developer and has guns. Although all i’ve heard is the gunplay is better than fallout so again, if fallout gets a good review this is “an improvement” yet people dislike it. Also you mentioned as many non Pc/ xbox players keep arguing, it’s a terrible space sim. Which is very true! If this was a space sim then by god would it be an embarrassment. Look at elite dangerous, it’s the best of it’s kind, then there’s no man’s sky which also is great. But starfield is not a space simulator and people keep forgetting that, it’s a story game based in space, huge difference. It’s not about being able to fly around a planet because why not, realism of how stuff flies etc, it’s about playing a story and making your own path in their handcrafted (mostly this time) world. $100 for premium i’ll always agree is insane. But other than pricing (Which Ironically no one brings up as the main issue, probably due to game pass) there’s no glaring issues. My personal opinion if I had to pick it’s biggest fault, the games too big. It should’ve kept to 1-3 systems of handcrafted planets, procedural generation was unneeded really and seems lazy. Once again that’s my personal take and it doesn’t make the game bad. Pricing aside the game itself is good at least. To some it may not be what they wanted, but that doesn’t make it bad either. The game is no huge amazing underestimated masterpiece that’s for sure, a lot of expectations have not been met. But it’s a good game, just not one that caters to everyone’s needs and/ or taste. I think people got carried away because of the space part of the game, it’s Bethesda, they’re making a story game not a sim.

@Super_Boa any game with the mod support Bethesda has will end up good. It would be harder not to. They literally make bug fixes and script extenders just to make the mods work. Add quests/fix combat/change leveling progression. The base honestly has very little to do with the modders. Not to say the games are bad, but it's a weird thing to give credit to Bethesda for the modders.

Gamers today have such unrealistic expectations. Bro we are another 10 to 20 years out b4 what your asking for now happens. GTA 6 isnt going to change your life when it comes out either. It will be within the confines of what GTA online has achieved. Obviously Bethesda isn't at the same level as the highest game studios, but its a good steppingstone for them
I will say that from someone who doesn't have a horse in the console wars, this game feels kinda empty. the cut scenes feel uncanny and the movement stiff. the gun play looks unsatisfying. plus there's not real roleplay options. they just allow you to have a different attitude while following one story. Edit: not to mention the flying, which I've yet to see anyone be good at or bad. it's skill floor to skill ceiling is very short. I think that half the fun of having vehicles in a game is maneuvering them around obstacles, in space there are only astroids. Flying on the surface would have been cool, but surface crafts themselves would have been cooler. I'm not much of a Bethesda guy but if what Charlie says is true about their other games being like this, my fear of missing out is quite diminished .
Those suits must be magic because the surface of venus is actually well over 200 degrees Fahrenheit in temperature. Must have internal cooling systems of some kind or type.
Definitely magic, cuz they let you breathe in a vacuum but god forbid you get too close to a gas vent otherwise you'll damage your lungs! Inside that sealed suit. Because it's a vacuum. A sealed suit that lets noxious gasses in apparently.
No Shepard MC, no alien humanoid npcs or companions, bad story, chatgpt tier dialogue, boring combat, no fun multiplayer, etc. Starfield wishes it was half as good as the original ME trilogy

All those games mentioned are trash. What has happened to gaming?! Its barely better than 10 years ago. Got to a point where we need 100k plus developers to truly build something that feels next generation.
I dont mind the bugs , its not because of the company its because the type of game it is , open world games have bugs but looting doesnt strip the target anymore , entering space or a planet is a cutscene , no flight in atmosphere, our player doesnt talk , no mans sky has some of those things fixed , years ago ..kinda sucks to be honest . and for a game that went out like today the graphics are not something that revolutionary , especially if you think what kind of computer it demands. I already have No Man's Sky with tons of content and they cared to fix bugs, Bethesda wont. I already Have The Outer Worlds, which has the personality, exploration, and customization youd find in this game. I already have borderlands which has gun play and characters. What is unique and interesting enough to make me want this? fighting generic dudes in space hallways? We have Halo, we have mass effect, we have gears of war, we have so many space marine games, what is the selling point?
NMS and Outer Worlds people hated too. It took years for NMS to be even remotely decent and Outer Worlds everybody said was boring. Now people say it’s good? Why do people’s opinions change on a dime? Also this could be said about any game right? Why play _ when _ exists instead could be filled by anything really.

If you want Fallout 5, Elder Scrolls 6, and Starfield all to come out relatively close to each other, than yes, they would be considered too short on resources to get that done. I’m glad Id Software can step in and help them with certain aspects, that’s an example of them having some good resources available that’s for sure.

Honestly the gameplay was quite underwhelming imo, being the beginning, not sure it gets much better than running around on empty plains.. if all planets have this lvl of emptyness, i rather still play skyrim on one single planet. At least there there was plenty of novel places to explore.

It is pretty justified. IGN also gave Battlefield 2042 at launch a 7/10 and also gave Deathloop a 10/10.

@@gingerperksgamingyou will be getting that many hours from this game since there are over 1000 planets, space battles, and a crap ton of other stuff in it and about to be added to it and they just added more stuff to it with the patch they just released as well.
Usually with Bethesda games it's best to wait a few months for the big bugs to be ironed out and optimization to improve, so it's a smart choice even if you're hyped for it.

Watching the stream’s Vod with chat up is just making me feel second hand embarrassment. Imagine being so immature that because you cannot play a game you constantly spam about how terrible it is.
Stream needs an age restriction because there’s no way they are not children the way they’re crying about how bad a game is. Whatever your gaming platform calling the game “bad” is crazy. It may not be great or amazing, I wouldn’t be able to say yet, but in no world is it anything less than good.

@@t41886 It was not developed for 25 years, it’s the first new IP. It’s been in development for 8 years which for a game this big I’d again say it’s at least good quality.
To bring attention to your other point it does share similarities to fallout but what do you expect, basically an updated engine, same developer and has guns. Although all i’ve heard is the gunplay is better than fallout so again, if fallout gets a good review this is “an improvement” yet people dislike it. Also you mentioned as many non Pc/ xbox players keep arguing, it’s a terrible space sim. Which is very true! If this was a space sim then by god would it be an embarrassment. Look at elite dangerous, it’s the best of it’s kind, then there’s no man’s sky which also is great. But starfield is not a space simulator and people keep forgetting that, it’s a story game based in space, huge difference.
It’s not about being able to fly around a planet because why not, realism of how stuff flies etc, it’s about playing a story and making your own path in their handcrafted (mostly this time) world.
$100 for premium i’ll always agree is insane. But other than pricing (Which Ironically no one brings up as the main issue, probably due to game pass) there’s no glaring issues. My personal opinion if I had to pick it’s biggest fault, the games too big. It should’ve kept to 1-3 systems of handcrafted planets, procedural generation was unneeded really and seems lazy. Once again that’s my personal take and it doesn’t make the game bad. Pricing aside the game itself is good at least. To some it may not be what they wanted, but that doesn’t make it bad either. The game is no huge amazing underestimated masterpiece that’s for sure, a lot of expectations have not been met. But it’s a good game, just not one that caters to everyone’s needs and/ or taste. I think people got carried away because of the space part of the game, it’s Bethesda, they’re making a story game not a sim.

@Super_Boa any game with the mod support Bethesda has will end up good. It would be harder not to. They literally make bug fixes and script extenders just to make the mods work. Add quests/fix combat/change leveling progression.
The base honestly has very little to do with the modders. Not to say the games are bad, but it's a weird thing to give credit to Bethesda for the modders.

I will say that from someone who doesn't have a horse in the console wars, this game feels kinda empty. the cut scenes feel uncanny and the movement stiff. the gun play looks unsatisfying. plus there's not real roleplay options. they just allow you to have a different attitude while following one story.
Edit: not to mention the flying, which I've yet to see anyone be good at or bad. it's skill floor to skill ceiling is very short. I think that half the fun of having vehicles in a game is maneuvering them around obstacles, in space there are only astroids. Flying on the surface would have been cool, but surface crafts themselves would have been cooler.
I'm not much of a Bethesda guy but if what Charlie says is true about their other games being like this, my fear of missing out is quite diminished .

If you want Fallout 5, Elder Scrolls 6, and Starfield all to come out relatively close to each other, than yes, they would be considered too short on resources to get that done. I’m glad Id Software can step in and help them with certain aspects, that’s an example of them having some good resources available that’s for sure.

Honestly the gameplay was quite underwhelming imo, being the beginning, not sure it gets much better than running around on empty plains.. if all planets have this lvl of emptyness, i rather still play skyrim on one single planet. At least there there was plenty of novel places to explore.

what do you mean? comcast offers 1.2GB internet for around $100 a month. Probably even cheaper in some parts of the US. it's not that uncommon to get 1GB download speeds especially through ethernet
