- Hi all Wolf Lord Rho here,
Today we take a look at the Blood Ravens chapters' reaction to news of the new Primaris Marines and Roboute Guilliman being alive once more!
The events we are discusses today are from a short story named "Raven's Blood" from an old White Dwarf from July 2019. I really recommend you read the story for yourself first, and subscribe to white dwarf if you can! It has tons of great lore in every issue.

A point i haven’t seen raised, the custodes treat the space marines the same way many/most space marines treat baseline humans. It is endlessly amusing seeing that fly right over the marines heads.
I would probably say that the massive amount of pride makes them blind to the irony i mean the "We are the the Emperor's Chosen" should point that out
I kind of want to see how they would interact with the salamanders since the salamanders are probably the most human space marines.
Honestly, I have seen a number of people point that out, that and the irony usually being very lost on the Space Marines.
Years ago, I was a soldier and interacted with the PSDs for some high profile individuals in iraq, never an enjoyable experience. The arrogance of the custodes is inline with the behavior of the PDS I encountered. 0 fucks given if they offended/pissed anyone off as long as they accomplished their mission, and just short of actively hostile to everyone who isnt them.
@Rory 543 Over all the Blood Ravens are one of the less aggressive or condescending chapters. That does not mean that what is being said is less true, just less true about the Blood Ravens in particular.
I get why they're so up themselves (Emperor's Chosen and all that), but a smidgeon less haughtiness would be more becoming for the Custodes. I remember Guilliman was rather shocked about their contemptuous attitude to humans. Thank the Emperor that Guilliman made them get out of the house, as it were. They were getting weird.
well when you are essentially immortal and have been living for 8k+ years in boredom, it gets to you lol. They usually never leave Earth and never interact with any beings except themselves.

Underratted comment.
I absolutely agree with you. I think the custodes almost despise all astartes bc it was they who betrayed big E. Even if these loyalists had nothing to do with the heresy. I guess they regard the astartes as being flawed and untrustworthy.
Well yeah, i mean when you think about it the custodians are the anti space marine. Their primarch is big E directly. Even during the great crusade they on more than one occasion have taken the heads of .. problematic.. marines. They are the right men for the job of carrying edicts. They are are making marines uneasy to send a clear and direct message: we have our eyes on you and so does the emperor.
That and they feel likes they failed the emperor because of what happened so they may be trying harder and harder to do their jobs as a sort of repentance, and most of them have been locked up in the palace unless something drastic required their attention so they've been a bit disconnected from the rest of the universe.
@@Nyghtking "The Emperor's Legion" covers that in detail with custodian's POV of how they were exactly feeling as well as other parts of what they were doing all that time. Seeing Bobby G now back in command was basically a blast from the past and many of them are conflicted as to where they stand in this "new age".
the horus heresy has shown them that a lot of them are loyal to their primarch and not the emperor directly
i would say most astartes are blind to the bigger picture and what the emperors vision and his goals are or were
especially now with almost everyone thinking the emperor is a god
at the end they are nothing more than pawns
makes you think what do they view the Primaris as then?
I would say the custodes 'doucheness' isn't even comprehended by them. They just do. To them traditions, honors, respects, none of them mean anything to them unless it directly applied to protecting the empeor. They don't hate or dislike the astartes, its just they see no point in prolonging their job any longer than required.
They probably feel like the Emperor is underprotected with their and a number of their brothers off-throneworld tasks
They would probably be even more douches on the way back since so much on their ship got "gifted" by the blood ravens.
So basically they're autistic
“Blood Ravens! We bring reinforcements, all new Primaris Space Marin... why do you already have them?”
“Oh we... ‘found’ them on Mars centuries ago”

Hey Rho,
In Regards to the Custodes and how they Feel in terms of the Astartes, they generally Dont like them, this is because the Custodes actually hold the Astartes Responsible for what has happened to the Imperium, after all, the Custodes are actually Taught the Truth about everything within the Imperium as well as the Emperors Imperial Truth.
Because of this, they are rather unfriendly to most outside of the Custodes, even with the High Lords of Terra they treat them the same as they do the Astartes.
I Recommend Reading the Books "Master of Mankind" and "The Emperors Legion", Both of these books give a good amount of context in how the Custodes feel and how they are taught.
Hope you have a great day!

@@morgothastartes What the custodes didn't know is the new grav tanks and transport gunships are not on the supply log to be given to the blood marines and they still have them anyway.
What a marvelous gift
The custodes´s attitude is just being overly cocky/arrogant in my opinion. Sure, there are the Emperor´s personal guards, but that also means they were sitting on terra for 10 millenia while the astartes actually held the imperiums line against everything that came for it. Plus, given the density of Librarians in the blood ravens ranks (and taken into account some intel from the burning of prospero-novel) are you so sure the custodes would win this? Superior reflexes and skill dont do much if your armor and bones are melted for example....
I thought they keep the constant demon incursion in the ruins of the Emperor's webway gate so they haven't been idle at all.
@@ovasquezg23 They did that during the Horus Heresy, true. But at this point, the Gate is (kinda) sealed and the Emperor pretty much holds the demons at bay with his mind alone. The Custodians still guard the gate and everything, but have no role in active combat.

"What might be the cause of not informing Chapter Master Angelos...?"
A.: HERESY!
Knowledge is power, guard it well.
Sure, they "received" gifts
I've always had kind of a rough spot for the Custodes. They look badass and are tough as adamantium nails, but a lot of times, they just come off as battle droids, with more programming than spirit. "Emprah this, Emprah that." I know everyone is dedicated to fighting for the Emperor, but at least Guardsmen and Space Marines have other things going on and even lessen the Grimdark with some well-placed Brotherhood. Hell, Space Marine and Guardsmen bro-tier are some of my favorite moments in 40K. One is obviously more...well just MORE everything, than the other, but at the end of the day, their all in the same trench.
But the Custodes? They aren't brothers, they barely even think of each other at all. Not because they hate each other, but because there's NOTHING there. No kinship, no rivalry, just programming to obey the Emperor. I've just never really gotten interested in them because most of the time to come off as aloof dicks. Sort of like if you took all the aspects about the Emperor I didn't like and put it into a group, it would be the Custodes.
Still, it's nice to see Astartes on the other end of the stick when and even Superer-Superhuman talks to them like their idiots.
Here's a little story inspired by this... please read :-)
... Gabriel Angelos stood in front of his assembled Blood Ravens as the Ultramarines lander touched down. As the dust settled the ramp lowered, moments later an Emissary of Lord Guilliman appeared and started to descend down the ramp, flanked by Primaris of the Ultramarines 3rd Battle Company...
He approached Gabriel, his escort marching in perfect step, heavy boots echoing across the parade ground.
Gabrielle studied every inch of these new Astartes that The Lord Commander Guilliman is dispatching to bolster the ranks of the Chapters all across the galaxy.
The Imperial Emissary motioned to the lander, ranks of Primaris appeared, resplendent in the colours of the Blood Ravens, banners and heraldry held high and proud....
After an impressive formation march the newly arrived Chapter reinforcements came to a thunderous halt, perfectly arrayed before Chapter Master Angelos... At the head of the column stood an impressive imposing warrior, he stood almost as tall as Gabriel who was in his Terminator plate, this was the first chance Gabriel had seen the new Mark X Gravis Armour of the Primaris up close, he was impressed by the design and by the design of the new style Bolt Weapons the arrayed Primaris wielded. He noticed the warrior wore a heavy cloak around his shoulders but he could see by the warriors markings he was of Sergeant rank...
'These warriors must have seen battle already then?' thought Gabriel....
It was at this moment Guilliman's regent interjected......
"I have completed the charge set to me by my Lord Guilliman and have delivered your Primaris reinforcement as ordered"... "Further reinforcements will be forthcoming my Lord"...
He bowed and with a command he turned and ordered his escort back to the lander.
Gabriel surveyed his new charges with a concerned look on his weathered battle hardened face... 'what was the reasoning behind this new initiative of Lord Guillimans?' 'The ancient Archmagos Cawl has a hand in their creation?' he mused... 'Only The Emperor Himself can create? Does he see himself as The Emperor?'
Gabriel's attention was suddenly focused on the leader of his new cadre, the Sergeant appeared pensive, unsure of how to conduct himself.....
"Welcome to your new home my son" announced Gabriel, as he flourished his arm broadly, "Indeed welcome to you all".... He returned to speaking to the Sergeant at the head of the arrayed Marines.... "What is your name Brother"...
"My name is Sergeant Antonius Antonius" (couldn't think of a name, don't @ me!), "and it is a great honour to be finally with our Brothers of The Blood Ravens", Antonius proclaimed proudly. "We have studied all the information made available to us about our gene Brothers and we are versed in ALL our Chapters customs and doctrines"..........
Antonius stepped closer to Master Angelus, a furtive look on his face, as he glanced back towards the Ultramarines boarding the lander.... pleased they were our of hear shot, he reached inside his great robe, an object appeared in his hand.....
..........
"I half inched this while I was on the lander..." Antonius proclaimed... "If it isn't nailed down we'll have it!"
Gabriel suddenly reeled back, a broad smile on his face.... throwing his arms wide open in acceptance to bellowed "You're all going to fit in just fine".......
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha Bloody Magpies!!!!
Teh Emprah Proteccs yeah!!!!!!
Do you think about this and cringe now?
@@jordanbarrett7754 No... Do you cringe that you suck your mom's pee pee?!?!
Primaris Muhrines are shit, they ruin the lore, and Cawl has committed Tech Heresy thinking he can imrove on The Emperors work!
So if the Blood Ravens received new gene seed from Mars, the techpriest must know their Primarch
It’s nice to see there is someone that treats the Astartes the way the Astartes treat the Guard.

Valestis: "Hahahaha. Have faith brother. We will get our answers. It is what the leader carries in that box that intrigues me"
*smacks lips*
Atenaxis: "No brother, DON'T !"
*Custodes finish looking around*
Pertinax: "Alright ..... I am ..... Wa ..... *WHERE THE FUCK IS THE BOX !?!?!?!?*
Atenaxis: *chuckles* "Hehe .... we're in danger"
Not a big fan of this Chapter. However I have heard they like to "Acquire" equipment, gear and such. I'm surprised they didn't steal all the Primaris Marines and take Primarch Robotue Guliman with them..
Blood Ravens: "Ahhh yes... Custodian Brothers... Hehe uh.... Uhmm...."
"We graciously ac-"
(Stolen Primaris Marines from other chapters): *"CUSTODIAN BROTHER!! WE HAVE BEEN STOLE-"*
Blood Ravens: *"STFU!"*
*clears throat
*"We Graciously accept the Primaris reinforcements my Lord!"*
A the space version of the gypsy. These boys can and will steal anything including your granny's ashes..
As a side note to that, I love the DoW 1 and 2 games and this chapter because of it! And I love how they tried to make it work!
Yes we know what they received
But that did they steal?
Do they now have custody weapons
Strange that they would have custodes weapons at all since those are created to be gene locked only to ever be used by one person.
@Iorclins Eveirnis What? Custodes arent implanted with gene-seed. Every strand of their DNA is modified to perfection, the process takes hundreds of years. Custodes are handcrafted to perfection, while Astartes are made in sweat shops.
Second: Custodes cannot be "demoted" if they loose a single nano second of reaction time they "retire" leave their armor and weapons behind and spy on the name of the Emperor
I really enjoy you content. I do not believe I have ever left a comment under any of your videos, but your voice is very calming and your enthusiasm for the lore is palpable. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the support!
Got to love the Mangnus successors!
they arent. They are Dorn's.
Raven Strategist HERESY!
It's been on the nose and lamp shaded more than once that the BRs were apart of a company that was sent away during the Prospero purge. Keep in mind that the thousand sons was a EXTREMELY loyal legion - even when despised by all. Forget fucking Horus, fulgrim, mortarion: the fall of Mangus was a real heart breaking tragedy.
@@TKUltra971 everyone with magnus' geneseed throughout time and space is affected by the rubric. Even ones who got left in the warp turned to dust upon entering real space. If they are really magnus' tea leaf raven boiz then its got some dumb plot holes.
@@SabreJ Not everyone. Don't forget that one of the founding grey knights was a thousand son.
Wait what book is this from? Love Blood Ravens... but I also want to know their gene father. My money is still on Magnus.
Thank you for taking your time making these videos Rho, I enjoy them more than any other 40k lore video on youtube. May God bless you.
Edit: I would love to see more videos on Space Wolves after the great rift when you have both the strength and the time for it. :)
Thanks! Always time for more space wolves!
Primaris are just Ultramarines in different colors 🙃
Gabriel seth? Is that you?
Until the space wolves ones fall to the curse etc
I think how the custodians treated the Astartes was fair. It's not like human soldiers don't die by the billions, yet it's super rare that the astartes show humans the same kind of respect. So I can't really blame the custodes for being douches really.
Its nice that the custodes gifted them all the new weapons and gear
They will probably Teach them the ways of the Blood Ravens first, before teaching them the Battlefield tactics they use.
In other words, Teach them how to break into Chaos Strongholds, Tau Strongholds, Aeldari Holy Sites, Necron Tombs, Imperial Guard Bases, Battle Barges to Burglarize The Entire Relicquary and probably "Borrow" The Relicquary building itself.
Quite intriguing, I assume that this stuff was happening while Gabriel was dealing with the crap in Dawn of war 3 so that’s why he wasn’t there to accept the Primaris personally but it’s also interesting how unlike with the main well known chapters the custodies didn’t have any grey shields for the blood ravens and just gave the them the means to make Primaris. Granted this was one ship compared to the full fleet that came with The Indominus crusade. Makes me wonder if chapters on the other side of the rift got a similar experience and if the custodies were able to track down more secretive chapters like the Space Shark, now that would be one hell of a tense interaction cause they don’t really talk with anyone they just show up, kill and do their “Red tithe” on the nearest imperial forge worlds
Also i believe Guiliman doesn't know the Blood Ravens Primarch - Blood Line. Guiliman sent the Custodians to each Chapter with a generic message and not a personal one. He leaves the personal quotes to Mathew!!! But Cawl definately knows. And i quote Wolf Lord Rho previous video that features the Primaris Chapter "Sons of the Phoenix" that supposedly comes from the bloodline of Dorn with purple paintjob!!!! What i didn't understand is whether the Blood Ravens received any primaris marines (meaning ready out of the box and not just the geneseed and the means to make the primaris)? Because if they did, they would supposedly be from the post Heresy Era meaning that the Blood Ravens would be a very old chapter (2nd or 3rd founding) and also meaning the then primaris should remember something of their lineage.
I’m pretty sure it was just the gene seed and technology to create primaris.
Its interesting to see how the custodes view a space marine chapter. They must have done this many times already I wonder if they were like this to all of them?
He's just being passive aggressive because Guilliman kicked the golden warriors out of the house and told them to go get jobs.
Nope. They just didnt want the Blood Ravens close so they didnt get anything stolen.
@@joevidya XD Perfect.
Guilliman: Father gave you the best wargear in the Imperium, and you lazy bastards haven't gotten out of this Palace ONCE in 10'000 years!?
This is a great demonstration of why being a douchebag to people you meet is just suboptimal even from a purely dispassionate analitical and service minded point of view. Imagine if the Custodies had been very curt and goal oriented but still willing to proceede with basic respect and answered questions, they probably would have been in and out of there quicker and they also would've inspired the Bood Ravens which can only further the Gulliman's, and by their own logic, thus the Emperor's goals. They would have come across as a little cold but extremely focused and professional, probably as very efficient too particularly if they *opened* by rattling off the answers to FAQs right to begin with. A little kindness, or even just information, can go a really long way with your allies
What you said about the Custodes seeing the Astartes with grim suspicion bc of the Heresy really shows the difference between the two besides the physical and mission goals. The Custodes feel that they can never again trust the Astartes fully.
“Yeah we’re going to give you those gene seed to mark better space marines, cause Bob said so.”
“Come again?”
Um, doesn’t Cawl have access to all 20 original legions?
Yes he does
Guilliman forbade him the use of traitor geneseed, but...
*mechanicus troll face*
@@antonkovalenko364 Yeah, but even Guillaman was thinking "He's going to do it anyway.".
You know GW really should make Kitten canon at this point so we can have a ONE Custode that isn't a bloody douchbag. They claim to be perfect but they literally stuck in a palace 10.000 years guarding a corpse when few thousand of can do it. Emperor's chosen carry their sire's arrogance and collousness.
If I may quote TheRussianBadger, "hippity hoppity, where the fuck is my property?"
The Legion Custodes are an organization I've hated, ever since their treasonous, cowardly mass murder of the loyal Thunder Warriors. I am glad the Captain wasn't a punk, and stood up for himself, against this arrogant Custodes dirtbags, though.
The way you look at behavior of the Custodes towards the Blood Ravens leads to me asuming that you learned nothing from the mistakes that caused the Horus Heresy. The behavior of the Custodes is not superiority or a sense of duty. It is hybris. It alienate and anger the people whom support you need to win the war against chaos. It's bad leadership. You can expect blind loyalty all you want. The fact remains that people that are treated with respect, understand why they given orders and feel that your leadership can be trusted are more loyal and more devoted to the task.
If you have a couple of soldiers figthing and dying for you and you disrespect them all the time or even just when the pissed you off like the primarch of the word bearers did with the emperor you ask for rebellion. And this is the weakness that chaos needs.
In that logic the leadership of the emperor is as much responsible for the heresy than the flaws in the space marines and their primarchs. And the Custodes in this tale behave in the same flawed way. Slaanesh liked that behavior.
Blood Ravens docking our ship? BOLT DOWN EVERYTHING!!
For those unfamiliar with the Blood Ravens meme: look up their 1d4chan entry it's hilarious :)
Don't bother, even the bolts were "graciously gifted."
Blood Ravens: ... wow... ACTUAL gifts.
If the blood ravens gene father is unknown, how can they get primaris seed?
the comments are GOLD. I have been a 40k fan for a while but i had no idea what the blood ravens were all about. LOL
Primaris Chaplain Diomedes when?
