- Hi all Wolf Lord Rho here!
Today we take a look at Dante, Lord of the Blood Angels, meeting The Silent King, undisputed ruler of the Necron race!
The events we are discussing today are from the short story "The Word of the Silent King" by L J Goulding. And as always I really recommend you read the story for yourself first. Not only do you get the most enjoyment this way, for yourself! But we help to support the great Games Workshop and Black Library. As without them, we wouldn't have this fantastic lore to talk about. The Silent King wishes you to show him what your working with Girly Man.
He smells like Strawberry Sundae and Pizza
Dante whispers back you are obviously a terminator fan.

I love how Alpharious is the 40K version of Kilroy
The silent king was alpharius all along (it is a lie, of course, he is in fact omegon)
I feel sorry for Dante.
He must be very tight down there in his armor, due to his enormous balls of steel he has.
He's plenty tight down there, just ask Arenos Karlaen.
Dont worry he is not a catachan, caraprace armour from their ABS OF STEEL
I have to respectfully disagree. I believe they are glorious golden balls not steel.
@Manish Erande i mean Sanguinala is a thing.
There is nothing tight about down there because he doesn't have balls of steel, he's just like the furries of fenris, following orders with no thought of his own, only people who think for themselves can have balls of steel, like true Sith Lords or the Custodians an maybe one or two normal space marines but no space furries or space vampires that's for sure.
Space Vampires and Robot Mummies Best Friends Forever
Don't forget that Sanguinius saw a defender of imperium in a golden armour (in his premonition) and the Silent King approached blood angels with Sanguiniuses golden death mask at one occasion (with a different one than Dante's)
Now if only we can convince the WOLVES to help finish the best buddy trifecta.
It the beginning of Universal's Dark Universe. The one we deserve
I hope you're aware that vampire is a term for a parasite that feeds on others for survival and that in the original myths vampires fed on psychic energy not blood. It wasn't until Bram Stoker that vampires fed on blood and that was still for survival. Blood Angels aren't vampires they are just obsessed with blood. Not the same thing.
@@TheTrueFeleas The Wolves and Angels already greatly respect one another but it's the Salamanders that are the Blood Angels best buds. They even refer to each other as brother instead of cousin.
Everyone loves Sanguinius, there truly are no exceptions.
Even Angron didnt hate Sanguinius.
near no one hates sanguinius
I mean the one who did got erased from existence
@@dominichall6576 Who Horus? Nah him and Hawk boi were literally best buds
@@dominichall6576 Horus did _not_ hate Sanguinius. Why else would he have tried to hard to convince him to change sides? 🤔
Considering their 2 interactions with the Necrons, and then with the Carcharodons, I'd say the Blood Angels are some of the Imperium's top diplomats.
Agreed, though he would never have accepted it.
@@FatalShadow13 All the more reason. He was the only voice of reason among his brothers.
That and the Salmanders, they’re pretty much Reasonable Marines.

Dante: You take the five thousand on the left. You take the five thousand on the right.

Dante: ( Looking at the Silent King) The hard job.

I bet the silent king did meet the emperor at one point, and I can definitely imagine why they didnt get along lmao
the Emperor most likely didnt use the words I would have used in his shoes, but Im sure he made his disgust of the alien filth very obvious.
Seeing as how they are two of the most powerful and enigmatic beings in the galaxy, I can imagine the conversation would have been interesting. The silent king, wanting to rebuild the necron empire to its former glory, and big E wanting to make his own empire of humanity.
The emperor probably told him in a poetic, round about way, to fuck right off lmao
Silent King "so we will rule the galaxy and you will be our slaves" Emperor "Most of your race is now slaves, how about we humans rule the galaxy"
Couldnt have. The Silent King went into Extra Galactic Exile almost 60 million years before the Emperor even existed. Hes only just recently returned to the galaxy

You forgot to speak about the last part of this phenomenal short story. I believe it to be the key. Dante tells to Sergeant Machiavi the words Szarekh whispered to him: "They are de rising storm (aka tyranids) and you must become the shield"
Love your work.
He can respect Dante as much as he respects Sanguinis! 😯
Yeah, that was a really important part I was hoping he would include.
Would imagine the Silent King saying something along the lines of "Go away child, I have pairs of socks that are far older than your precious Emperor"
There are terminator suits older than the Tau race
@Cian McCabe So sad that the prototype turned out better then the finished product.
Being older doesn't automatically make you more powerful or even wiser though. I wonder if the Necrons have any anti warp tech powerful enough to suppress the emperor's psychic power.
@@SirMcAwesome The only reason the Cadian system existed at all was because the Necrons possessed, and still maintain in some regions various warp dampening pylons that halt the expanse of the Eye of Terror ripping open further. Ol' Abby managed to take out one of these pylons, and just one going down split the empire in half. Let that baste a little.
SirMcAwesome The Necrons are the only faction capable of sealing the Warp entirely. So they'll be fine.
Dante knew that this was a battle, that the war would be won many years from now, if at all, he was honouring the agreement while keeping faith with his chapter. The Silent King knew that had he shown Dante his forces true might then Dante would never have entered into the alliance, he also knew that when the battle was done, Blood Angels and Necrons on the same, empty, battlefield was a bad idea, so removed his forces while winning the battle. The Silent King saw this as an opportunity to win an ally, Dante did too.
This comment needs more likes. It's the most insightful I've read so far and likely the closest to the truth as well.
The silent King made Dante an offer he couldn't refuse
despite the praise from Guilliman calling Dante his "brother", (even though Dante was on the verge of death at this point), a one and one fight with the Silent King would be the end of Dante. for all terms and purposes, the Silent King is a necron god. dude has been wandering for forever and a day. that's countless experience and knowledge. combine that with necron tech, his mastery over living metal, phase shifting, and even time itself, there is no way Dante can raise a finger to that, or maybe just one, him flipping him the bird as he dies, but that's about all he can do XD
agreed -
So, how would a fight between Szarekh vs Guilliman go? :)
@@Archon3960 this would be a closer battle. it would be hard to say who would win. unless Szarekh just out right obliterate Guilliman in the beginning, i would think that Guilliman would start to gain the upper hand, but also in the end, Szarekh would never be killed completely, cause he would either come back in a new body, or even just rewind time
@@GreatChickenGod reanimation protocols don't always work.
@@Archon3960 Silent King is still significantly stronger than Guilliman. Keep in mind Guilliman is not a particularly impressive duelist among the primarchs, and as another commentator said, SK is as close to a god that is among the necrons. He would 100% beat the brakes off of Dante and Guilliman in a 1v1, hell probably even a 2v1. Silent King is up there in a similar tier to the Emperor before he was enthroned. This is likely the reason the whole "Guilliman Vs Silent King" thing that people were expecting didn't play out, at least as far as I recall. Cause unless GW renamed the Armour of Fate to the Armour of Plot, Guilliman was getting put in yet another box.
Hi Rho - your music producer here, thank you so much for the opportunity to work on these videos. The dark, mysterious ambience goes really well with your narration. I love where your channel is going, keep it up. :)
Jakov
Thank you for your great work!
Little late here but yes, the music is such a huge part of these videos. I have even gotten in the habit over the past two years of having proper music playing when I read 40k/HH novels. It really does add to the story, and there's so much good music on UA-cam that perfectly fits the 40k atmosphere.
The Silent King is the Necron Emperor.
Yes, THAT exactly.
He's absent, but also everywhere.
He's been defeated, but still is unquestioned as ruler.
He's considered a god by his people.
He has sought ascension for his species, failed and paid the price.
He has a greater 'master plan' for the universe.
He was betrayed by his god children (Big E: Primarchs, Silent King: C'tan)
16:16 Boy wouldn't that have sucked if they tried that and the Silent King just phased out of reality and back in after the explosion had ended and Dante would have died for nothing
seems legit, or the silent king tanks the blast like a boss and his living metal body would regen while the rest of the necrons put themselves back together.
@@robertharden3681 Dante almost signed himself a death sentence
Classic human thoughts. If we can't reason with it, we'll nuke it. It usually works...
The Blood Angels have always been one of my favorite space marine legions simply because of how awesome Sanguinious is as a primarch/character.
Leman Russ doubts he could beat him one on one.
Horus Lupercal thought that He should have been warmaster.
Roboute guilliman and lionel johnson both chose him to be emperor regent of Imperium secondus.
And now even the Silent king of the necrons acknowledges and respects Sanguinious as a worthy ally.
I hope one day Black library will bring him back in some shape or form to fight beside his legion again. That would be Glorious!
Sadly, he will never be brought back, and for good reason. Sanguinius is hands down just the best primarch, he is the epitome of everything good about humanity, he is a symbol of everything the imperium is and stands for, and he embodies what it means to be human.
Yeah, he could wrest the Imperium back from the brink in a way Guilliman never could.
tyler tanner Not true, he can be brought back as some sort of ghost. It would be like one of those mysterious appear-out-of-nowhere-and-turn-the-tide-of-battle characters that GW is so fond of using. Hell, even Ferris Manus returns briefly as a ghost in Master of Mankind.
@@H240909 since our golden hawk boy is worshipped in the imperium you are right. It might be possible for him to come back. As a warp entity. It won't be the golden hawk boy we know in the Horus heresy but what the imperium worships him as. Cause anything worshipped becomes an entity in the warp.
Even though the Blood Angels are my favorite, I hope he doesn’t. It will destroy the sacrifice he made, marching to his death to make sure his strike helped the Emperor slay Horus.
The Silent King could have been in the Void during the life of Sanguinius and then upon his return 10,000 years after Sanguinius' death decided to try to reach out to him across time (the Necrons do have a few among their number who can time travel.).
"What does the Silent King demand!?"
"Time Travel!"
"When does he want it!?"
"That's irrelevant!"
I want to see the Silent King in action, what if his battle power resembles that of the C'tan, granted he has special abilities that NO OTHER necron/necrontyr have. Immortality might have come at a "cost" but nonetheless he is MORE capable than what he was before...
he got the best of the best materials as he transformed, because he was the first to be changed. That material was so good that the second necron in line was not neer the quality of the silent king, so yeah he seems to be overpowered.
@@felixkrafft4084 I would LOVE to know the science behind their necrodermis, especially the Silent King's...
@@tappingninja I only know that a necrontyr invented it and that its like tube with that boiling material, you jump in at the top of it, you get separated from your soul and get forged into a necron and depending on how often the tube got used before you use it more and more of your mind says goodbye as well.
@@felixkrafft4084 they did invent the necrodermis, mainly for the c'tan to take a "mortal" form as it were but when it came to changing the necron themselves the c'tan used alot of thier own power to make it possible so no doubt there stuck loads an loads of thier power into the Silent Kings form to make him no only unbelievably powerful but also unique and then stepped down in power an uniqueness as they went down the ranks of the army untill they hit just standard foot soldiers...
@@darthgorthaur258 they helped with there knowledge but not there power because they gained power threw this process and the souls they ate.
i want to see, during the Dark Age Of Tech, the Big E, and Silent king were buddies doing shits then had a fall out along the way
Plot Twist: they both got dumped by a time-traveling Ynead.
Space bros before Xenos hoes my dudes.
In before this fall out was over a bet
Very possible but I think even dark age tech was less than necron tech
I can see The Emperor and The Silent King sharing the same goals for both their races.
@@onelividguardsman5681 That's probably why the Silent King despises the Emperor. He reminds him too much of himself and his own failure. Both wanted absolute ascension and dominance for their respective species, and both failed and paid a terrible price. But I think the Silent King may have emerged wiser after millions of years, and understands the bigger picture. Not sure if Big E has reached the same conclusions.
Yeh I wouldn't pick a fight with the Necrons while the Tyranids are munching their way through the galaxy at the same time. Smart move to make an Alliance.

@@KossolaxtheForesworn I'm pretty sure that szarekh, whose body is probably made with the most high quality material necron science can produce, can take a measly nuke or 400. He probably has a built in super force field or something absurd that can turn anything short of a C'tan away
@@rayedjamal yet he approached the Emperor who can fight a full power C'tan in one on one combat and win, and who could obliterate him from existence if he so desired.

@@KossolaxtheForesworn Not a full powered Ctan, the Void dragon was just a shard (just a piece broken down by the Necrons) and he had to use an ancient weapon a black spear (most likely necron in origin) and 7 blackstone fortresses.

The silent king whispered into Dante’s ear “42”.
Dante vs the Silent King? Silent King all the way. I doubt even a full-powered Horus would be able to truly fell the Silent King. Dante is an absolute badass in his own right, but this is a being who is ancient and cunning beyond measure, who sealed away the C'tan, who has seen and done things even the Emperor has not. Even a group of Primarchs would be hard pressed to truly kill him for good, IMO. Though if you put a resurrected Emperor in that proverbial ring with Tzarech? That's an entirely different story.

As much as I love the Blood Angels and Dante, the necron regent would own the current chapter master. I doubt even a primarch would be able to go toe to toe with the Silent King.
I don’t know how that would line up chronologically, but I do believe that Szarekh has met Sanguinius. He doesn’t strike me as the type who wears the likeness of a man on his face just because he heard he’s a pretty great guy; for true respect, as this seems to be, to be established, they would’ve needed to meet personally.
That would certainly be an interesting read.
That Sanguinius Face effigy worn by Szarekh messed me up when I read it lmao
Silent King whispered "BTW, I knew that Rhino was rigged to blow."
I remember reading this some time ago. It’s one of my favorite short stories.
The idea of an alliance is interesting. At best I assume the Necrons would see humans as lesser and as possible vassals (given recognition but a lower status). One of the things that helps 40k seem so grimdark (but with moments of hope) is the speciesism. Each group wants to wipe out the others except for a couple that also want to wreck everything-those being chaos (corrupt everything and stagnate it worse if possible) and the nids (eat everything). In Total War:Warhammer Fantasy there is a time when the "civilized" groups can make a truce or alliance to fend of a chaos invasion. There are hints of that in 40k Eldar and humans working together against chaos is not unheard of nor everyone against the nids. But those are temporary alliances that are short term when the threat is longterm (nids and chaos will be in 40k long after one particular battle or conflict for 1 planet is won or lost).
Since they can talk with each other there is nothing physically preventing humans, Necrons, and Eldar from literally living alongside each other in a big city planet except that in 40k they wouldn't agree who should be in charge (possibly on who should be alive) and thus start shooting each other. I think this is more possible to even think now because in earlier editions of 40k Necrons were almost like metal nids in that they wanted to wipe out all the 40k life they came across as well. Now they talk to humans-making them seem more civilized than in earlier editions.
Perhaps 40k is the opposite of Star Trek and provides an example of how badly things can go wrong when groups of intelligent species cannot figure out a long term arrangement with each other.
PS . This comment has be shielded to be commissar proof. Furthermore it's viewers are untrackable so Guardsmen exposed to it may not be easily assigned a summary execution unless they make the mistake of reporting themselves. The author of this comment does not recommend that.

At some point I could totally see the Necrons, at least certain dynasties, allowing human and maybe Tau auxiliaries. Not aeldari because they’re an ancient enemy and same with orks. The necrons want above all else to rule the galaxy and restore it to order and rebuild their civilization. Such a task does not necessarily mean wiping out all life.
@@ReformedSooner24 No. But if you remember earlier versions of the lore that related to Necrons wiping out all life was a thing they did-thus making them like mechanical nids. Changes to the lore since open new possibilities.
The Silent King drew the Blood Angels to that planet on purpose to be sure there'd be someone to deal with the Tyrannids en route.

There is no way Dante is going to beat him at all.
I have a necron overlord sitting on my shelf. I saw this and I looked directly at him, an enormous change is happening in Warhammer.

I wonder if GW or BL will ever explain what the Silent King's fascination with Sanguinius, why he respects him so highly.
The fabulous Hawk boi, nuff said.
I feel like Sanguinius was what the Necrontier originally wanted to be. Powerfull, angelic and immortal. Free from the radioactive curse of their homeworld.
The King would like himself, and his race, to be like Sanguinius.
TheMetroidPrime makes perfect sense to me.
Also, Sanguinius was kind, just and fair. He would have acted with mercy towards the Necrontier would they have begged him to free them from their cursed, weak and very mortal bodies, when the Old Ones told them to fuck off ald die.
Sanguinius was the ideal being, even better than the Emperor if it weren't for the later's godly powers. The figure you turn to during the darkest hour and that you know you can trust to do the right thing no matter what.
In the 40th millenium, his soul still pops up as the Sanguinor to stand in the face of overwhelming evil.
I guess that's what the Silent King could have been, had he made the right call instead of forfeiting his kind to the C'tan.
Every one loves Sanguinous. EVERYONE.
Woow, love this story :)
I can imagine the conversation was... riveting XD
What a badass story!
Starting to really love the blood angels
You know why I like this so much? Favourite race is the necron favourite space marine chapter is the blood angels literarily everything I could love about this
Hell yeah My fav UA-cam channel drops a video and I drop my kid
Haha
I love this story.
Hail Wolf Lord Rho! The Emperor knows your name.
Gotta love the enthusiast little inserts the narrator does about the characters steel balls.
I miss the older, more mysterious and eldritch horrors the Necrons used to be before they got turned into the tomb kings in space.
General Coma I kinda miss that part too about C'tan lore, hopefully it is brought up to some extent later on.
Severed & the Infinite and the Diviner revolve around the horror aspect of the Necrons
There are Necrons that scare other Necrons. Think about that
@@christiandauz3742 They are now very knowable and have relatable emotions and goals. They even fear.
The eldritch mystery of an ancient unknown is gone with the rewrite.

I think it depends on which Dynasties. Necrons under the control of the C'tan or the Flayer virus are like the old lore
Nice Processing work there lol I see u have also watched the “matrix rain tutorial” 😂
I'm totally making this Blood Angel/Necron army now.
"This party's gettin' crazy. Lets rock!" Wait, wrong franchise. XD
Wolf lord. I need you to come tuck me in at night and read me bed time stories of the emperor. Your voice is great for this kind of work. I almost feel asleep during my second hour class... and I'm the teacher.
😂
