Rejuvelac is a cultured probiotic-rich drink made by fermenting freshly sprouted grains in water. It first became popular in the 1960s under the influence of living food enthusiast Dr. Ann Wigmore, the original founder of the Hippocrates Health Institute. Born in Lithuania, "Dr. Ann", as she was called, is believed to have acquired the recipe from her Baltic origins.
The beverage is closely related to the traditional Romanian drink, called Bors, a fermented wheat bran used to make a sour soup called ciorba. Rejuvelac is a cultured probiotic-rich drink made by fermenting freshly sprouted grains in water, traditionally wheat is used, but we also use rye as well as gluten-free millet and quinoa. Plus, we show you how to make rejuvelac from sprouted wheat as well as sprouted quinoa.

6:29 for sprouting and 14:20 for traditional rejuvelac's recipe.
Can't wait to try. I have been sprouting wheat berries and broccoli and alfalfa seeds.
Your pronunciation of foreign or complicated words is fantastic, it's the same in your other videos. Good job. Thanks.
Outstanding video! Very helpful. Can't wait to try.
Very informative, thank u, big thumbs up.
Very professional work! High quality videos
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much for this!
At 4:44 you say you don't recommend using buckwheat, but I have made rejuvelac from buckwheat with excellent results. A comment for 11:58 it is also possible to reuse grains without problems as long as you keep everything clean, although the drink will get weaker every time, the first batch is the best. Otherwise good info.
i love you guys your channel it is the best thanks for all the work you do god bless your efforts
That's a lovely comment, thanks!
Great summary and information. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Just watched for third time and finally saw it :-) the recipe
Good it's not just me
thank you!
thank you. very good
Thank you for this very informative video! I have made this before, but I wasn't sure if I was successful in making the product. Now I feel more confident in trying another batch.
I made all the way to 4:20 imagine the disappointment of millions :{
Thank you
Very useful information.
I had chance to learn with dr Aan wigmour in Mumbai around 1988.And tried rejuvilack along with wheatgrass & uncooked food.it was great experience
Sprouted grain flour is good for you and makes tastey bread. *Buying it costs big $* .
Do oat grain work or is there a reason to not use them to do this ? Thank you !
Wow. Watched with interest and intrigue, convinced of its benefits and determined to try it, only to find at the end that I can't due to having IBS. Big bummer!
NaturalVee67 wouldn’t you think that all of the people going to Ann’s clinic were sick with the ailments listed at the end ?! I think they had to add that as some sort of disclaimer. Anyone living on a standard America diet has a leaky gut and most likely one or more of the others, like IBS. Our health begins in the gut. I’d encourage you to try it 1-2 Tbs at a time, just to start out. I sure will be 😊
To make sure my soap residue is cleaned away I use white vinegar. Dunk the jar in a bowl of water with vinegar, shake it up, drain well and rinse.
Sorry to be so off topic but does someone know a method to log back into an Instagram account??
I was dumb forgot my password. I would love any help you can offer me
@Ahmed Matias instablaster =)
@Declan David Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site through google and im in the hacking process atm.
I see it takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
@Declan David it worked and I finally got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thank you so much you saved my account !
@Ahmed Matias Happy to help xD
Fine presentation. I have been sprouting for years. I just use Rubbermaid BPA free food containers to sprout with. I use the rinse water for cooking and take a swig now and then. Will try this soon. I bet the used sprouts are tasty too. Thanks.
1fanger, hum wonder if the sprouts added to soup wouldn't be great. Though it may indeed have less nutrients it still would have the resistant starch and add bulk.
Thank you for such a precious information.I truly appreciated and I,m drinking it on a daily basis.
Nice video
Just received my berries, they are red hard spring wheat. I hope they work as I see they used soft berries.
Very informative:))
For those that would still prefer to avoid gluten, I would suggest using quinoa, millet, amaranth or teff gluten-free grains as well as legumes such as french green lentils. I question whether the fermentation process completely neutralizes the gluten protein in wheat, rye, kamut, etc... And with so many other options, why not just give up on wheat altogether. It's definitely not your grandfathers wheat as it has been hybridized over and over again. Perhaps this is why so many people are now allergic or sensitive. Watch 'Wheat Belly' (the documentary). Also 'Grain Brain' is excellent.
Gluten sticks to the villi in your small intestine reducing the amount of nutrients that get absorbed.
LMFAO
Was it really that funny?
apple25481 yes because the gluten thing is completely over played and people have very little understanding what it is
Even more hilarious, is that people who actually do have celiacs promoted gluten-free so that manufacturers would develop more gluten-free products that don't taste bad.
Robert Henry Amaranth Yeah? I'll be growing some this year. I'll have to give that a try. Grain Brain is still on my wish list. Just checked my organ quinoa and it's a product of Peru so I don't think it will work.
Can you eat the grains after your get the liquid?
Me again. Can we use the sprouted grains to make wheatgrass?
Never heard of it, have been making Kombucha, sprouting, Kefir, Yogurt and Whey.. wil try this today since I already have Fenugreek seeds sprouting since Thursday. .. BTW, why not just consume the sprouts instead of throwing out ..?
Going Natural & +Superfood Evolution, I heard when sprouting to rinse it several times and get rid of the water cause it has a natural substance that prevents the seeds to grow and that hurts the stomach, intestines. which I believe because it is hard to digest and makes you sick... use the vegetable, kefir fermenting processes. My family did have digestion problems with this. The sprouting of grains like the lentils, chickpeas, quinoa, barley can irritate, bad to digest especially for a leaky gut these are suppose to be cooked in order to digest in any case.... the alfalfa, radish, broccoli stomach are great for fermentation.
Going Natural or make a raw bread with the leftover wheat berries.
kombucha and kefir I have been making too but how are you making your own whey ?
I also use the leftovers for pancakes😁
would it work with mung beans, do you think?
When soaked once and washed next day, they are needed to be covered in cloth only without socking in water?
Awesome! Can we keep the grain with the liquid in the fridge?
Nor during fermentation, but it's best to strain before refrigeration...
I don't understand this. You show how to sprout the seeds but you don't actually show how to "farm" the liquid. Do you add water to sprouted seeds? Then how long does this water sit before using- this is a little vague to me but I'm old so maybe everyone else is clear?? But these are the best and most informative videos I have ever seen- good job guys, I will have to go to website soon to be able to digest this:-) This information has given me a way to help myself and others .
Earle Donaldson same with me if you rinse where is liquid ?
Earle Donaldson it is explained in the end
@@miramaxted-page2225 After you are satisfied that the majority of the sprouts have germinated, put the filtered water in the jar and leave it for a few days. The fermentation process should have started. Taste the liquid until you are satisfied with the taste of it, then decant and refrigerate the rejuvelac.
can u eat the sprouted grains ?
Can i add this rejuvelac to my green detox juice?...
This should be great for leaky gut. Can you explain please?
InHislove
exactly ! It’s not like the people going to Ann’s clinic were healthy when they arrived. Who in the world of eating a standard America diet doesn’t have leaky guts ?! All the others like IBS come from having a leaky gut.
Our health begins in the gut. I think they had to legally state that as some sort of disclaimer . Happy fermenting 😊
How much to drink a day n when is d best time? Tq
How can know the grain are fresh
Thanks for this great tipp. There would be two open questions for me:
# Why not using a canning jar with a rubber ring? It lets out a bit of the gas if the pressure gets too high, but also pretty much seals it off.
# Following that recipee could the sprouted grains be replaced by a mixture of sprouted seeds, such as alfalfa, green lentils, radich etc. (I am sprouting such mixtures regularly in a sprouting station)?
With best wishes, Hans
Can we ever get to the recipe..?
can u use raw oat groats? do u need to rinse them first? The reason i ask is because natural yeast or things already on the grain i wondered if they might be helpful during the first soak also considering you will be then rinsing this in eight hours etc...
Yes and definitely rinse them...
teresa olofson it also says that Sprouting is KEY to making the drink
Yep you need to get rid of the components of the grain that interfere with digestion.
Hi there, if I can't get hold of purified water can I use bottled mineral water that you commonly get from the supermarket?
u need to test that water 1st to see if its acidic or alkaline. if its acidic its not gonna work the way u want it to work.
As long as it's without fluoride or chlorine it will be fine. That's what most purified water takes out. You will be fine no matter what water use in actuality. Just to what purification level you desire, not anyone else. I'm not a physician just a 35 + year retired cosmetologist who had to take some nursing in school. But I am not a doctor and I am constantly researching.
Audrey O`Callaghan boiling won't change the fact that fluoride is in the tap water. It will still remain.
why would it be bad for IBS ? Is there medical documentation that says this product is bad for these intestinal problems you listed.? I think it would be the opposite.
isn't it possible to use the sprouted seeds to make Essene bread for example ?
After they are fermented, we wouldn't eat them ourselves but let us know if you try it...
Sky Above seems silly to not use them. I just watched a video of a guy that does make raw breads with them.
What is it?
Excuse me- where are the instructions to make rejuvelac? There is only your ad here.
Starts around 14:20
The day 4:20 is here to give you recognition for knowing the fermented!
Norman Spurgeon it’s very plainly stated in the video
Where do I buy this grain?
Steven Bradford online or from your local health food store or a local organic farmer
Oats and barley?
There is something vmajorly important missing in your instructions. Once the grains have roots coming out, you said nothing about filling the jar again with some amount of water, not specified and letting it sit in a quart or 1/2 gallon of water for 1-3 days until it tastes tangy and tart. You went from rinsing to sprouts to drinking the rejuvelac. Did I miss something????
1/2 cup grain, sprout and add water in a quart jar. Ferment 1-3 days. If you do a longer ferment you may not want to reuse the grains or just add them to soup.
Clean pure water wouldn't be tap so it is distilled?
Distilled, reverse osmosis, Spring water etc...

+SuperfoodEvolution GREAT video, but...people w/a leaky gut shouldn't drink this?!? I thought, this would be especially beneficial for those w/a leaky gut!?! PLEASE tell me you were wrong re this! (If you don't reply, I'll just assume you WERE wrong!!!)
igspal it’s really a no brainer. I think they had to put add that as a legal disclaimer.
it doesn't say how to use the water from these sproutings??
can it cure a celiac/gluten allergy
We don't really believe in "cures". Gluten in general can be problematic for a lot of people. Perhaps just try and eliminate it from your diet.
Why shouldn't you drink it if you have candida? Isn't that why we're drinking it, to heal our microbiome. Just curious about that, what could happen? Thanks.
it is well studied that gluten is not the case of Celiac. Gluten sensitivity develops because of GMO wheat and Roundup in it. Try organic and see how you'll be reacting.
That could be a factor for sure...
Now I am starting to rethink my fermented food intake if there is candida in it. I am trying to remove the over population I already have.
if ihv leaky gut or candida overgrowth cant this help as nd to correct the bacterial imbalance pls respond
Try Bone Broth for leaky gut it should be better. Search it here on YT.
Am vegan so can't have it. But thank you for responding
Oh ok, for Candida make a Ginger Tea. Cook the Ginger for a minimum of 10 minutes to change the Gingerol to (6)-shogaol it is also good against all other Bacteria and works as a natural chemotherapy. Apple Cider Vinegar is also good against any bad gut bacteria.
Tommy Tulpe thank you very much. Then how long and often do I drink it before I can try the rejuvelac? Like how long before the gut is healed drinking this? So I guess with a leaky gut or candida it would be pointless taking probiotics? I never get good answers so thank you very much for responding. I really appreciate it so much. My son and I have digestive issues and we both have eczema and I just want to help him so he knows what to do when he is older... So he can take care of himself and not need to doctor
Sorry but I have no experience with leaky gut or other issues, I drink it almost every day but I'm not sick it's only for the sake of me and well-being. Unfortunately, I am not a doctor and these are just my experiences with it. I use 1 Tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar in a glas of warm water and maybe a bit of honey half an hour before eating. The Ginger Tea I drink mostly in the evening before i go to bed. Look for Dr. Berg here on UA-cam or Dr. Axe they are good and have many healthy tipps! Sorry for my bad english I'm from Germany.
Best wishes and good luck to you and your family!
What about sourdough. Doues sourdough have similar alcohol content to sauerkraut. Sourdough starter have a sour liquid to I believe
The alcohol produced is so small it's practically not there...
@@SuperfoodEvolution Hey What happens if you let rejuvelac ferment over a week?
Appreciate the information but the noise in the background is very distracting and irritating. Please lose the fake music noise.
Thank you for not using one of those annoying robot voices
Thanks for noticing!!! We're REAL people...
6:29
so, how to make Rejuvelac?
Forward to 6mins and 29 secs to learn how to sprout the grains.
Thanks!!!!
Do you have to cold stratify them?
This drink is clear from alcohol
does anyone else get bread smelling layer on top?
.
apple25481 ok it was my first batch so ill toss it
This is a recipe for light beer.
There are only small traces of alcohol in it...
Histamine?
Does anybody else have trouble sprouting grains like me.?
Joe Stolzenberger Me too. Four days in and still no sprout. I used brown rice.
No mine sprout in a couple of days. Get organic. Dead grains won’t sprout.
Do not know why you would not want to use it if you have leaky gut or intestinal issues? Usually fermented foods are used to 'heal' those things, why can't Rejuvelac be used for those conditions???? What is wrong with Rejuvelac??
As a vegan and mostly raw vegan I have researched and found that grains are not good for us because we are not cattle. We're coming to find that humans are quite different from animals although having organs. We don't chew our cud and we're not a goat to drink goat's milk or a cow to drink cow's milk which is why our immune system also known as the gut, small intestine large intestine colon is the basis for all health and should be pampered. We shouldn't throw just anything in it. Especially sugar and fluoride which is the most poison on the planet. We should research everything we eat before we eat it. Make sense? Animals can't read so of course research would be a bit impossible for them. I don't believe they eat meat. I've lost at least 20 friends in the last 3 years and losing more as we speak because of, you guessed it, the colon. Our immune system. I'm definitely staying with fermented foods but from Mama Rosa as well. I follow Markus and Cara rothkranz and Kristina raw vegan. They are phenomenal vegans! I don't believe they ferment anything which is why I'm here. Thank you.
Barbara Mowrey ... Jesus and the deciples picked and ate grains on the Sabbath.
can you believe a bacon add played! wtf!?
People eat bacon. Big surprise, huh? 🐷
My parents attended a "seminar" advertising the "benefits" of a Miraculous Rejuvelac Process in the late 1980's... The Chief Attendant, according to my parents, stated that "The benefits were as such, that the (Guide) could cut off his own arm, and it would regrow. My Father, reportedly, upon hearing this Drivel, told the Gentleman in General, to "Cut off his arm, and that (He'd watch) it Actively regrow...! As you might guess, this "Bet" was left , unanswered...!
will it make me poop?
Yes. Your dog, too.
Fake News! Sauerkraut does NOT require a starter culture. Does the author really know what he is talking about? I think I will stick with homemade Sauerkraut which is easy to make and definitely works.
We do have quite a bit of experience. We don't usually use a starter culture ourselves either. I would have to review that video to see why we said that back then...
It’s because it’s a copy and paste job I just read this word for word on a website elsewhere
Oh yes mucilaginous, of course.
First
Can I make this shit with broccoli sprouts?
No way, that would indeed be shit!
Yes-annoying music!
We apparently can't please everyone...
