He was the first celebrity I ever interviewed, and I couldn't have had a better start. He was a truly kind and humble man. I met him a few years later at Farm Aid IV and thanked him again in person. Then, I got to watch him perform. When he took the stage, everyone in the talent area - Mellencamp, Neil Young, John Denver, Willie, CSN - everyone went to the wings of the stage to watch him. And he rocked the Hoosierdome.

Carl could have been a minister. Such a warm hearted man, a nice way with words.

Ricky was 15 yrs old & idolized Carl Perkins after hearing Blue Suede Shoes & finally meeting him at 45! I’m so happy they both had that wonderful meeting! It was great that they met right before the making of Class of ‘55 Reunion for the greats of Sun Records! I’m sure that was one of the highlights of Rick’s life! This was September 20, 1985. So glad Rick got to take part in that! Rick had some really nice friends & bandmates & I’m so grateful for that, as he was, as well! That reflected who he was, himself! These are some great photos, too! So glad to see these great musicians!
(If that plane could’ve held out 1 more day, he was going to retire it when they got home, according to Gunnar Nelson. Such a shame. Even still today, it’s so hard to know that & not be able to roll back the time to change the outcome...).
