    I have the 2016 Genesis V6 Sedan and absolutely love it!! I get so many compliments when I'm out and when I tell people that Hyundai makes it their response is always the same: surprised!! lol May have to upgrade to that G90 though. Great job Hyundai!!

    kudos to Genesis for the excellent detailing of the center armrest in the rear. In a lot of luxury cars you don't see it covered in wood accents like that.

    I have to say...Hyundai dealerships are ALL very nice and modern. So walking past an Elantra to save $10,000s over the luxury competition is not an insult in any way.

    Great Review Tom. I would certainly consider one of those after 3 model years. The price will be about 30k or less. Have a coworker with a 2009 Genesis. She has had zero problems to speak of.

    Finally, someone who addresses DEALERSHIPS. I’ve been shopping around for a G90 and I must say, the quality of Hyundai dealerships and salesmen is a HUGE turn-off. Hacky, full of cheap tactics and surrounded by lame quarters (not to mention the cars), it’s really hard to feel like you’re buying a luxury vehicle. If GENESIS wants to become a true luxury brand, it needs to separate completely from Hyundai and compete with Lexus, Audi, Mercedes and BMW in every aspect.

    Great review, Tom. I liked how you give appreciation where its due without underestimating the challenges Genesis will face in the marketplace. I'm cheering for them, and like you, looking forward to what the next 5 years will bring. I especially liked the winged logo in the heads-up display and the symphonic tones.

    I was just at the Silicon Valley Auto Show this weekend. Two g90's there. The display was swamped with interested potential buyers. Everybody seemed to LOVE this car.....especially the interior. I tried out the sound system and it was awesome. I personally love the interior and think the exterior is classy/clean. Overall....it was very well received.

    I just purchased a 2018 Genesis G80 with less than 26K on the odometer, it was turned in from a 3 year lease. I bought the car for myself, not to impress others or to show off. It's barely within my reach financially, but I've wanted one for some time and it recalls the quiet & comfortable cars I grew with in the 1960's & 1970's. It still has some time left on the warranty, all I've done is put new tires on it. I'm planning driving the car for at least 10 years, perhaps longer. Here's to hoping it runs reliably. I think the exterior is a bit on the vanilla side, but that's fine with me. The interior is gorgeous, and the seats are exquisitely comfortable.

  • @ZesPak
    @ZesPak 8 років тому +20

    Well, the Japanese have proven this, for most people it doesn't matter how good your product is, they rather pay more for unreliable driving oil leaks with interiors designed in the early '90's, as long as they have a BMW badge on them.
    That said, while I applaud them for trying, the design of this G90 is very derivative. Probably can't beat it in terms of VFM and will be a lot more reliable and cheaper to run than any competition from Germany.

    • @LRS905
      @LRS905 8 років тому +1

      Bet you are the typical dumbass that would run to the BMW dealership and get those "oil leakers" if you had the money...spare me the "Oh but I have the money/I can afford anything/ I have a X, Y, Z in my garage" bullshit bragging.

    • @ZesPak
      @ZesPak 8 років тому +7

      It's you who's making assumptions. Here on the OId Continent, everybody can own a BMW or Merc, they are far from exclusive. I like German cars and have owned several. I just don't like people spewing false nonsens about their "reliability". Because every statistic shows they aren't.

    Have owned a G90 for 6 months now. Outstanding luxury car the equal of an S-Class in every respect except prestige and price. A similarly equipped Mercedes would cost $45,000 more. That’s too much to pay for snob-appeal.

    when I first started selling these I was skeptical but once I drove and tested these vehicles they are killing the competition by providing alot of great amenities alot of quality believe it or not and all for such a minimal price considering what these vehicles provide you with. Genesis is on its way to building a great luxury vehicle company

    I would love to have it, loved it ever since it was announced as it shows people do not care that much about a badge anymore, but about being valued by a maker. Shame I can't and probably will never be able to afford it. :(

    I agree that modern cars don't need much servicing. I've had 5 new vehicles in the last 15 yrs and only one needed a minor warranty repair. A 2004 Dodge Dakota had a squeak in the steering column.
    I do all my own maintenance, which drives the dealerships insane but saves me big bucks, and I have peace of mind knowing it was done to my satisfaction.

      Genesis just won the highest value awards.. After 3-4 years, it will be more like around 40-45K buddy... If you can't afford the Genesis then just go out and buy a new Hyundai. Genesis is NOT a Hyundai. It is Genesis, the brand new luxury. No cheap skate's bargain.

      Suboptimus Lime I won't keep my hopes up high but G90 is different animal from the Eqqus. The time will tell and we will see who's right. You just gotta understand correctly that the Genesis brand is not a Hyundai nor Eqqus. Genesis brand is for some serious luxury performance and they mean it. They did not scout and hire Bentley and Lamborghini top executive and V.P. for nothing. We will see, the time will tell, boys!

    The G90 is truly a beautiful, uncommon car in Canada, great warranty, but for the price they will beat any completion, even Mercedes S class. Very good on gas, high resale value, worthwhile investment for people that do not want a Cadillac, or European car

  • @jasongibson6824
    @jasongibson6824 8 років тому

    The purchase price of the Hyundai Genesis in Australia for the basic model is @ $67.000 the top of the line model is $90.000 & they are non turbocharged are not as up market as the American version.

  • @kipwilliam5593
    @kipwilliam5593 6 років тому +1

    This vehicle sets the new standard for affordable luxury, reliability & resale value. I think your European brands like Mercedes might have status appeal, but once the warranty expires they are crap problem prone cars that have no value. Anything from Japan or South Korea does hold value, they are famous for reliability.

    Cars like this are what i call "2nd tier luxury". They have many good features, but don't have the same legacy and zing as Bmw/Merc/Audi. But if you want the luxury without drawing unnecessary attention, 80% for 60% of the price, Genesis seems to provide well. I suppose Lexus, Infiniti, and Acura could fit in this category too.

    You know I like this Genesis, I've seen it a couple of times and didn't know what it was. I thought it was a Bentley once. However you can see 7 series, S class, Audi, and Bentley (emblem) influences all over this car. They could have been unique and still sold a bunch of cars. A Unique design with a V8 engine would help this car out tremendously in my opinion. People that buy luxury cars already know that they are going to pay a premium so therefore they want something different, powerful, and luxurious and not a copycat.

    Tom:
    When you test drove the Genesis G80 Sport, you said that you wished the Lexicon stereo was more “dynamic.” On paper at least, the G90 and the G80 Sport have the exact same 17 speaker Lexicon stereo with the same wattage, amp, surround sound features, and speakers. I personally listened to both stereos and although they are supposed to be identical, I found that the G90’s Lexicon stereo sounded much better than the G80’s. Did you notice that as well? Do you agree that the G90’s stereo sounded better? In the review of this G90, you said that the stereo is “divine.” Thoughts? Thank you!

    As an owner of a Hyundai and a Kia I hope Genesis succeeds. Our Hyundai and Kia are excellent cars at a great price. However the trade off is resale value. Their value drops off tremendously. That may be the problem with Genesis brand as well. But they have to start somewhere just like Acura, Lexus, and Infiniti. Hopefully Hyundai comes out with a good sports car soon. The Genesis coupe was alright but just not as good as competitors.

    Thank you so much. I never thought I would find video car reviews for grown ups aside from the stale 'Rye-Krisp' at Consumer Reports. The cornucopia of hooligans and lunkheads are maddening.
    That being said you may have sold a car. My Beloved and I just don't fly anymore unless we must and we travel with our dogs. My old Turbo R has never liked this 'gasohol' mix and is getting a bit silly to maintain for the long road. Time for a test drive. I have been looking for AWD comfort and brainless maintenance.

      @747-pilot 8 років тому +11

      Well stated Guillermo D!! These badge whores don't fail to amuse me. Empty hollow idiots with no substance whatsoever (or brains for that matter).
      These are the types with "a little bit of extra money", who desperately need to convince others that they have made it, by driving their "status symbols". The ones with the *real* wealth are much more secure with themselves, that they don't need to flaunt it! They buy exactly what fulfills their needs for luxury and don't find the need to unnecessarily waste money for a badge **rollseyes**
      By this measure the G90 far exceeds everything out there. We are talking Bentley and Rolls Royce territory here for 1/3 the price! It is *insanely* quiet, rides like it's on cloud nine, has goads of power and a buttery smooth engine (the V8 model). Hallmarks of what a *true* LUXURY car should be first and foremost!

      Joshua R Exactly! To me at a 15-30k price point I'm not going to be too picky about the uniqueness of design but when your trying to become a true luxury automaker and not just a "trim level" i expect a look and design that is its own. Not something borrowed from one or more companies.

    What 'design' feature does this care share with the Lincoln Conti, all BMWs, all Jaguars, and an ever increasing number of others? Here's a clue - to my eyes it ruins what little pizzaz modern limos have and concerns the front end construction. Can't see it? Well, its the hideous stuck on nose cone thing with the inevitable panel gap right across the 'face' of the car, so the whole front of the car is plastic and looks it. Some do it a bit better than others eg BMW, some worse eg Jaguar. If you compare the previous gen XF to the current one you can see what a large negative impact this feature has. The damn thing looks like it could fall apart at any moment. And for why? To save a few pennies on insurance premiums when these cars eat money all day. Ghastly madness.
    I won't even start on the other increasingly grotesque aesthetic cancer of phoney windowism - you know, the apparent window area outside as opposed to the actual area from inside. But then in an era when everyone seems more concerned with infotainment systems and other gratuitous tech rather than real design elegance and actually being able to see out of your car - what can you expect?

      MrLittlebigbang Well said. Let me add, where is the room in these luxury automobiles. Compacts and mid size seem to have nearly as much. The cars are huge but lack justification for it.

    i got a Chevy a Honda and 2 Hyundais in my driveway. both the Chevy and
    the Honda are far superior to the Hyundais in every way except the price
    we paid for them because Hyundai is dirt cheap. i don't know about genesis but Hyundai itself and kia are still second rate as of 2016 which is the last model year i drove.

    Your wrong. The interior is just as nice if not better then Mercedes S550. The Genesis interior has all real leather and wood trim. The Mercedes and lexus have mostly fake leather and wood..The Genesis interior is way nicer..

    My only problem with the Koreans is that they copy the Germans. I mean look at that infotainment system controller, it's off the S/7 and that shifter is from the A8.

      Who doesn't copy the Germans? Every luxury car makers aim to make their cars drive like the German cars.
      Also Hyundai/Kia's head of the design and head of the engineering are both Germans.

      I disagree. The first LS400 was NOTHING like the S class, 7 series, nor the XJ. It can be done.

      I disagree. Koreans is not the copy of the Germans. It's just your perceptions. Koreans have lots of German auto designers and the Head of Genesis design is German. It is not fair to say like you that Koreans copy Germans. If you are saying Koreans copy Germans then every freakin automakers copying everyone, right? Wake up and smell the coffee, dude. Kudos to Korean-German designing teamwork!!

      it just lacks in character. Hyundai needs to create something aesthetically original at least. That logo is also screaming for plagiarism. looking like bentley knockoff badge needs to be thrown out of the company and have separate dealership then people will start noticing for the company effort. It's just shallow af. It's a nice car, I just wish it had a different look.
