I love this car, I want one. Your a great reviewer and more people will continue to realize how good your skills are. Keep up the good work and thank you.
This is simply the BEST luxury car for the money, plus the 10 year warranty,it's a really SMART choice.German cars are really nice but just wayyyyyy to costly when bought new and wayyyyyy to costly for repairs when bought used. The GENESIS G90 will be the next car I will buy, really good review my man....
Hey Sam, I really like your reviews, you speak calm and clear and very knowledgeable, top notch camera work, and in all your car reviews you feature a nice big POWER bulge which really holds the viewer's attention ;~p keep up the awesome work .
Great review. Not as much interested in the G90 as I was the engine and performance. I plan to trade my 2015 Genesis Sedan (3.8) for the new G80 Sport that will use this motor.
Three years later, you probably won't see this comment, But...From an Executive Protection standpoint, I like the Park Button... There are times in Executive Protection when a Reverse J-Turn is an option. (Google it). The vehicle is slammed into Reverse, taken to a high rate of speed, in Reverse, and turned, then slammed into Drive...I can't tell you how many times a transmission has been dropped on the ground, due to someone accidentally slamming a vehicle into Park, instead of Reverse. So the Park button is actually a nice feature for those "In the know".
The G80 also costs half or one third of the price of those cars and is not in the same segment. :P The G90 is the larger car, the G80 is more spacious than the E class and that range of cars with similar features and a better price.
above 100,000 miles is where the Hyundai will be kicking the ass of all the Europeans. Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Volkswagen......astronomical repair costs and terrible reliability ratings.
The 2017 G90 doesn't have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto - it's my ONLY complaint. Those options weren't available until the 2018 model. There are after market options. I bought this car a few months ago and absolutely LOVE it. That little cubby in the lower dash is actually a car charging pad. Big enough even for the iPhone 13 Max pro, as long as it has a very slim case.
@@sdede6771 If there is a Car Toys store near you or another one that sells after-market head units, you can get a unit that will offer both Android Auto and Car Play. When I priced it out, it was about $1,200 installed for a really top-notch unit. Any higher-end car stereo place would be able to help you out with this.
I am looking at buying a 2018 G90, and would highly prefer Apple CarPlay. The dealership is a non-Hyundai/Genesis dealership, and I could not find any straightforward answers when doing my own research. One of the sales reps assisting me was one of the previous owners, and states it does not have it. Do you know why this may be? I know I can always plug my phone in to find out, but is there a way to know if it does? For example, do you know if the build date might tell us? I also happen to own the iPhone 15 Pro Max, and one of the settings in Maps is the "Directions on Radio". Do you happen to know if the G90 supports that? Your insight would be greatly appreciated!
@@VPhuoc79 - Hi @VPhuoc79 .Apple Car Play was one of my criteria when I bought my 2017 (which has turned out to be my favorite call of all time). But it didn't have it, and G90s are hard to come by. So, I bit the bullet. The Genesis Connected services did what I wanted but were spotty until the dealers made the recent head unit update on the 2017 model available via a download only to them. Two questions; if there is the possibility of going to look at the car (which, frankly, you SHOULD do anyway), I'd do that. In another question, the charging slot for phones is large enough for an iPhone 13Max with a SLIM case. It's what I have too. There's no problem there. According to several Google searches, Apple CarPlay was NOT a feature of the 2018 G90 standard equipment and would not be available on that model unless it were an after-market item. "The 2018 G90 does not feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which are increasingly popular must-haves for new-car shoppers." (USNews.com) According to Genesis, Apple CarPlay was not a standard feature of G90s until late 2019 (i,e, 2020) models. And, even at that, isn't wireless yet - from what I can tell. Also, you should know Genesis parts are hard to come by and have to be ordered from Genesis. So, if you decide on this car, you should get in writing that the dealer is able to work on it or know of a Genesis dealer within reasonable driving range. Other questions, let me know. What a GREAT question. Learned a lot by answering it.
Always liked Kia styling more, so I am curious what the next K900 is going to look like. Hopefully it will follow the styling of Kia Cadenza rather than, in my opinion, an overstated front end of this Genesis.
I'm telling you guys, Sam could review paint dry and STILL would be interesting!!! Now, the car, well, I'm a MB fan boy, have driven S Class since 2001, so I'm pretty much "stuck" there, however, that G90 is one impressive piece of machine!, but personally I wouldn't "downshift" to a Hyundai, yes, it's more bang for your bucks, 70K fully equipped is a barging compared to ze Germans, but that star on hood just says it all... :) :) :) You rock Sam!. PS: Check out FB page AMG of Sweden and you'll see what I mean.
I bet this is more reliable. I gave up on MB after too many problems. I was excited for the 2014 S-Class. But after more time repairing than driving - I finally had to send that S550 down the road. My colleague has a 2015 and it is no better. Tired of the German poor quality. The interior was exquisite but the QC was horrible.
I know... MB has kinda lost their halo.... the quality is not the same anymore... too much advanced technology is messing up the cars (all brands in general), you and your colleague must have had a case of a Monday's car.... I've had no issues with my MB's (knock on wood), how ever, what I can complain about is the maintenance cost, MB sure knows how to charge you for service and parts!
Ok. Hes hot. Very mellow voice. & this is literally my favorite car out. & theres alot of new cars. But this baby has everything I want for a decent price.
The problem with this car has to do with the human beings natural reluctance to change opinion. Anything Hyundai/Kia charges more than $40,000 gets hit with "I'd never spend that much on a Hyundai or a Kia." I'll just buy x, y, or z. Even though this is Genesis and not Hyundai. Won't matter.
That was exactly my reaction. I spotted one going down the road a while back. It was an impressive car to look at, obviously an upper tier car, and I didn't have a clue what it was but I was able to get close enough to it at a red light to read the Genesis emblem on the back. So when I got home, out came the Google search. First thing that popped in my head was, "No way I'm spending that kind of money on a Hyundai, I don't care what they call it!" But you know, things change with time. If the car turns out to be well built and reliable? People will come around. I had the same reaction the first time I saw an Acura and saw what they wanted for it, then discovered it was a "Honda." Hyundai is taking on some pretty heady competition. They are really going to have to bring their "A" game at this level. If they can do that, and maintain it through the years, they'll have a winner. This is the most complimentary review I've seen of the car so far. The previous test drives I read about said it was a very good car but nowhere near the level of the German brands. If Sam's review becomes more common, it'll be pretty good. I hope Hyundai can pull it off! And you know, as good as Sam said the turbo V6 was, I'd have to go with the V8! :-)
I think once Genesis has a small crossover in the lineup, then sales will increase since crossovers are so popular. Another interesting point is that the G90 and G80 are not based of off Hyundai vehicles. Cadillac, Lexus, Lincoln etc. all have at least one vehicle that's based off of a less expensive model and no one gives Hyundai credit for it.
Even VW has the same thing with Audi and other cars in its group. It's general for cars from the same parent company to share certain platforms really, the difference really is in the details, luxury, tech and craftsmanship. I'm sure the Maybach shares everything from Mercedes as well, the Maybach though is Mercedes Benz attempt at reaching out to that very lucrative exclusive Uber luxury market owned by Rolls Royce.
Elliott Manning That’s half true. The G80 may not be related to anything in Hyundai’s lineup, but it does share the same platform as the Kia K900. Granted, the K900 is a high-end car itself, but it wears the Kia badge, which the average person doesn’t associate with luxury.
Nice review i must say as always, but i don't agree that this has a parallel interior quality as the Lexus LS 2016. You get more details in the previous gen LS i have to say and the finish is just better. This isn't comparable to the S class, i think this car can only really compete with the Audi A8 cause that needs a revamp really. The new LS 500 is in another league completely cause to me that is about to change the game with the attention to details, luxury, tech and craftsmanship put together.
This is a nicely designed and beautiful vehicle but like always with every Hyundai or Kia they can't design a front end to save their souls that's my only gripe with the G90 it's a hit and miss just like with the Equus it looked amazing from the sides interior and from the rear end but once you look at it from the front you say to yourself they could have designed it better
What strikes me as funny is that everyone is always bashing Hyundai & Kia. Honda and Toyota with their 50,000 mile three year warranties. Maybe you don't need a longer warranty, but what if you did? I have owned MANY Hyundais and NEVER had one that required ANY warranty work. But it was covered if I did. If f you want to pay an extra $30k to drive a Lexus with fewer options and a worse warranty. Knock your socks off.
Oh, and I don't hear you telling Lexus to stop putting that stupid looking grill on all of their cars. Spindle they call it. Looks more like an egg timer.
Take it from someone who has owned a Hyundai product. I previously owned an Azera Limited, fully loaded. That car was purchased new and served up nothing but problems!!! Everything from major engine to computer issues. At less than two years old, the engine had to be replaced. What made my experience ever worse, Hyundai gave me pure difficulty with their warranty. If it sounds to good to be true, it definitely it.
Genesis sold only 1500 units in March 2017. This proves you need to market the car separately from the Accent and other cheap cars. You cannot wake up one morning and declare you are now a luxury car! You must give 100% and nithing less to gain acceptance.
While the f pace is selling like crazy beating the rest of the Jaguar line put together. The last i checked jaguar had sold almost 30k of the Jaguar f pace in the first half of its release
GREAT REVIEW! I bought mine in 2020 with EXACTLY 16k on the clock. LOVE IT! My Baby Bentley😁
I love this car, I want one. Your a great reviewer and more people will continue to realize how good your skills are. Keep up the good work and thank you.
Great review. I'm loving it! Funny thing is that most people that say "I wouldn't spend that on a Hyundai." can't afford it anyway.
The interior looks fantastic!

I love the way he says "five out of fiiiiiivvveeeeeeeee"
Nice review, nice car. Traditional take on luxury. Better than a loaded Continental?
Great review Sam. I wonder if you have any infinity q50 reviews?
so when are they bring back the coupe?
Great review. Not as much interested in the G90 as I was the engine and performance. I plan to trade my 2015 Genesis Sedan (3.8) for the new G80 Sport that will use this motor.
The back and side look nice.
It's a worthy alternative to the S class

is it quiet inside and outside and also does it drive quiet and smoothly
waiting for the more affordable G70!
Juan Suarez my budget is not $50k. it's $35k-$45k.
Genesis is the best luxury brand since sliced bread!

The grill seems a bit overstated. It may be better in person though.
Wow..very nice looking, classy style.
Why did this vehicle not go on your I'd buy it list?
The reason why it's pushing you back into your seat so hard is because those 376 lb-ft of torque is available at 1,300 rpm!
what about reliability?
So miss the comparison tests....head to heads....this one feels like it needs the Lincoln Continental right next to it....your thoughts?
The car to get for 20-25K after the first owner pays for two year depreciation
