Dude you are awesome. I just bought a 16 FJR yesterday and I have learned all kinds of tricks from you my guy. Much appreciated 👍👍👍👍
very helpful have watched several of your videos all were great. Yamaha should take your videos and put them on a disc and give them out with the bike. the manual is very confusing at times.
+Chuck bolding Thanks!
Came across this video about one year ago. Time to try adjusting the vents. Thanks Bryan
You bet
Funny enough I had to watch it a few weeks go because I forgot how lol
@@TwoWheelObsession Didn't work out unfortunately. I have a set of T-Rex crash bars front and back. The front mounts don't give enough clearance to get the panel off. It's only a very small amount that is impeded by the front crash bars but not wanting to force it.
Wow. Didn't even know this was a feature. I never ride this bike below 45f anyway, but very interesting.
I am going to open mine up today. We just keep getting the cool weather up here!
I actually do the opposite. In summer I open the cowls. It actually diverts air from the front onto my thighs, cooling them and helps heat get out of the sides and not on my feet. In winter I find the closed position better.
Yes that is correct, he has it backwards, and it makes a huge difference in the summer
Thank you, that was very useful unlike the manual :)
In the open position heat that is usually drawn down towards the rider's legs is instead deflected out and away from the rider, makes riding in protective clothing on hot days a lot more bearable. Most people make the opposite assumption, it's a shame Yamaha's manual is so vague on the function of these panels.
I'm coming to this discussion (at least) 5 years late, because I just returned from a 4000+ mile trip on my 2015 (which i've owned for 8 years). On day 1, after several hours on the road - and as the day heated up - I started feeling a lot of hot air around my lower legs/feet... much more so than I could ever remember happening before. It go to the point that I was nervously watching the engine temp for fear the bike was going to overheat! :-)
When I stopped I noticed the fairing looked different. And from looking at this video, I realize that my vents were in the closed position, whereas they'd always been open previously. I guess the mechanic who serviced before the trip put them back on that way.
Anyway, bottom line - my experience was that the "summer position" as described above created a lot more uncomfortable heat than I'd ever experienced before.
I mean then the whole slidings round the fuel tank
Excellent. The manual does nothing but confuse on this thing.
I am looking to buy an ex-police 2016 and spotted the difference between 2 bikes from the same place, now I know why the farings look different.
From exasperation to, hey that was easy. You're a godsend.
I live in FL, more worried about cooling the engine, than my legs. Which position better for the bike?
+Ste Alb Neither, that's not what it's for and that's a non-issue.
thank you for the videos. Just adjusted my cowlings and changed out my windscreen. Your instructions are easy to follow and the tips (put a cloth down to protect the paint) are amazingly logical.
Thanks for making that easy
thank you for your video...question, does the cowling offer any direct wind on my knees.. I love to have warmer knees when riding......
I have a '14, thank you so much for all the videos, but what is the purpose of this adjustment? Can you be specific?
Hey Zeth..I didn't find much difference in heat transfer but there is a bit more airflow directed away from your legs..helps a bit but I don't notice any significant change
Always Very informative video's . Keep them coming
Would this fairing fit on the previous generation FJR?
No
The previous generation dose it too, ie 2011.
