Oh yeah, I remember that I was searching for something with a car that I owned at the time and I happened upon this channel and I've been hooked ever since.
A mate of mine in England recently bought some old electric karts for his kids. Then he bought an off road kart. Then he tried to buy a 30hp 4 stroke motor for it, but the seller would only sell the kart complete. It's a proper race kart. He bought the whole kart for £800, but it came with receipts for £2,000 just for the engine. We were hooning it around grass fields, on slicks, Sunday just gone. Zero grip. Understeer, which could only be tamed by keeping the kart sideways all the time. It was a blast.

Man this brought back memories! I had a Margay Ampak back in 79. I bought it brand new and had such a blast on that thing. The chassis was almost identical to the one y’all have but the engine was on the left side. It was a package deal Margay had back in the day. They had come up with a 100 cc reed valve engine called the LMR. It was fast but wasn’t as reliable as the KT 100. I could smell the Klotz in the air watching this. He clearly does not know everything... and going on this video telling everybody a lean mixture is a good thing on a 2 stroke..... Not the best thing to tell a bunch of people with minimal knowledge, thinking his word is gold....
@supertedogpriken I'm not dead serious on he's the holy man himself. I was just messing around making funnies. I understand what you're talking about. I cut lawns for a living. All hand power tools are 2strokes. I run a half a once light in 2 gallon gas can of mix. It keeps from fouling the plugs out. But it could obviously burn out a piston also. Which I still haven't done. Normally the carb quits working. And I run the same trimmers and edgers. So I have plenty of parts. Never busted the internals in any of those 2. Foul plugs all the time when a helper mixes the oil to much. I notice when it's smoking a little bit more then normal. Lol
That is the exact setup I raced as a kid, The Margay with the KT100, I was always the youngest and lightest of all racers and I would dominate, all the dad's would bet cash on their kids races and my dad always came out ahead, we had a blast
Man what a great video. The editing on the last race is awesome! Really captures the essence of what all that is like. Love hearing the kt100 get on the pipe!
Great content. I loved hearing all those 2-strokes revving in unison down the track. Reminds me of watching my cousin racing his go kart in the 1970's. Congratulations on no loose or missing bolts, your prep execution (check list, verification etc) is getting very good.
Scott did great and he was really just outclassed by the other carts! After watching that wreck I wouldn’t want to be in the pack trying to pass either.you both did well with the setup you had. Next year! ❤
Man, if there were more turns and less straightaways on that track, John would have rocked it! Little cart just didn't have enough on the long straights.
The cart I raced in the mid to late 70's had side mounted fuel tanks and two McCullough 101 engines. Cart Racing was pretty big in Colorado back then. Love the old cart! 👍
It's cool that you guys are getting into Vintage Karting. I saw you guys at Concept Haulers. Your kart is a late 70"s Margay ProX. My first kart was a 1978 ProX with Yamaha. At the time it was one of the best racing karts available. There are several things you could have done differently which would have made it easier and better but learning is part of the fun. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.
Kt100s have great sound with the expansion pipes. I have a KT100 motor with a pull start and it works wonderfully. Someone used to sell a kit for it , it's a snowmobile pull start and recoil. Goes on the electric side.
Great video guy's and the best part is I'm restoring a vintage 1980's Margay Bandito witch is just about the same chassis. Love the race you guy's did great for the first time out and them Yamaha kt100's are just about bullet proof...
For the shaft seals, It's good that you're using grease for putting it on though you could have also used Vaseline. It's pure petroleum jelly and old time mechanics would use it for assembly lube. That's why (at least at one point) you would see a container of Vaseline in a mechanic's shop, it also dissolves very easily in gasoline if you need to remove it. Also for tires you should add a little bit of soapy water to allow the bead to seat easier and faster.
KT100 is a legendary engine. I want to put one on an MBK moped one day, deleting the belt/pulley system entirely, and changing final drive sides. .Look up MBK. 😉 Your KT needs a big K&N air filter with a outer dust cover. I would also run Amsoil Saber, or possibly Dominator.
Ray is my Dad!!!! Cool you got to meet him. I'm also glad he's ok. That was a hell of a wreck!
It was cool to finally see vintage karting in action!! Hope you all enjoy, we sure enjoyed shooting it!

Good job John 👍 that really looked like a lot of fun..
Loving the like over hour vids like y'all making cars and cameras movies here, like it.
That looks like way too much fun
Was an awesome weekend im one of the workers in Norway and loved all the carts
Next year! ❤
They drove like weenies.
omg I remember the predator 212 swap on that Colman Jesus 10 years I've been watching 😮🎉happy 10 years and cheers to 10 more
Ooh ooh oooh!! Did I see RC cars on the side next to the diesel bolt kart? Would love to see an RC vid from you dudes!!! ❤
That looks like so much fun, I'd love to go next year!
Man, if there were more turns and less straightaways on that track, John would have rocked it! Little cart just didn't have enough on the long straights.
That guy driving “Scott” is fearless..
Those wheels are so cool, reminds me of old japanese starsharks
Mad Dog 20/20 now that’s a blurry blast from the past 🤣
The cart I raced in the mid to late 70's had side mounted fuel tanks and two McCullough 101 engines. Cart Racing was pretty big in Colorado back then. Love the old cart! 👍
Great job guys got a cart that wasn’t running to running a race nice
I’ve been watching for almost a decade now. I love the content every one at carsandcameras keep up the good work
John gaining on his skills forsure
KT's are damn near bullet proof. Clubs still run them in the 100cc class. Japan has an electric start version.
I love this channel when were track side 💯🚗🏁💯👍🇬🇧from james in uk
Kt100s have great sound with the expansion pipes. I have a KT100 motor with a pull start and it works wonderfully. Someone used to sell a kit for it , it's a snowmobile pull start and recoil. Goes on the electric side.
Those two stroke carts, man... There's just nothing quite like that smell. My dad had a two stroke bike and I grew up on it. Miss it and miss my dad.
Great video guy's and the best part is I'm restoring a vintage 1980's Margay Bandito witch is just about the same chassis. Love the race you guy's did great for the first time out and them Yamaha kt100's are just about bullet proof...
Scott did a great job at the race and man that old 🧓 guy in that crash was pretty tough getting right back into it 👍
Been a long time since I've seen OpenWheel Kart Racing, Thanks fer sharing!
1 tooth front and back and probably in with a fight! Great drive lads
you showed up and you had a great time, that's winning in my book
More vintage go carts that was a great episode, guys
KT100 is a legendary engine. I want to put one on an MBK moped one day, deleting the belt/pulley system entirely, and changing final drive sides. .Look up MBK. 😉
Your KT needs a big K&N air filter with a outer dust cover. I would also run Amsoil Saber, or possibly Dominator.
I was watching this video but then had to go watch the original video you were talking about man you guys have come a long way.
Great race, awesome show
That looks like it could be a blast Im getting hooked
Been waiting 8 years for this.
"Bad decisions makes good memories" needs to be put on a t-shirt!!! Maybe with a print where a guy has a go-kart on top of him? xD
