This is SUPERKART racing. They are 100 horsepower race karts, with INCREDIBLE power to weight and DOWNFORCE.
And they might be small, but they RAPID - holding several OUTRIGHT LAP RECORDS and being faster than FORMULA 1 cars around some circuits.
Now, they only have 250cc engines - that's a quarter of a litre. Yet they produce 100 horsepower! They are inline twins, and are water-cooled 2-stroke engines. (you can see the massive radiator behind the driver).
And being two-stroke means they can create incredible power with smaller displacement, as the engine is firing twice as often! The engines rev to 14 THOUSAND Rpm and run through 5 or 6 speed gearboxes.
Most of you will have been in a rental kart that weighs a similar amount to these superkarts - but they have 5 to 10 horsepower. This has ONE HUNDRED!
But one difference is that they don’t just brake the rear axle. Similar to higher levels of karting, they have a disc on each corner and super sticky slick tyres - with a similarly soft compound to Formula 1 tyres.

Petition to have these race around Monaco on Grand Prix weekend.
I do this in Automoblista 2 all the time, its so much fun 😂
Excellent. Here’s my signature
Isle of man
Abit too bumpy for go carts imo.
With 0 run off. That sounds like a great idea! I'm in!
I would LOVE to see you race one and give us your first hand perspective!
He drove one, as he mentions several times in the video. On their second channel. Link in description.
@@sebastiandierks7919 Thanks! I meant to say "race one" as he asks in the video.
The Kart race in Adelaide was a support race for the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix when it was held in Adelaide in the 80s and 90s. Organisers wanted action on the track at all times. So there were races like this Kart race along with celebrities racing cars which lead to some pretty bad crashes. No surprise they cancelled kart races at the F1 Australian GP after that. I remember the crash well when it happened.
I’m pretty sure there were a few superkart races at the Melbourne GP.
I used to be a volunteer St John at the Grand Prix here in Adelaide, they used to have kart races in the central part of Bartels road, We were just as busy with them karts, I still remember Barichello coming for a drive in his FlipFlops(Thongs) and shorts. The next day one of the karts lost its brakes and straight through the hay bale. Very nasty head injury for a grandfather of a karter. More action there than on the track in terms of injuries.
That crash happened in 1991 at turn #8, aka Banana Bend. They continued to be invited to race up to 1994. Due to Adelaide losing Fosters as its lead sponsor they weren't invited back for 1995 due to lack of decent sponsorship nothing to do with this crash. I worked as a flag marshal at the Adelaide event but not at this flag point.
My cousin was at that corner on the outside wall about 6 metres away from where they smacked into the concrete. Unfortunately I wasn’t born at that time but it would’ve a good sight to see them on the streets (when their not crashing)
@Damar Fadlan Which go up to that fast? Most accounts I see have the limit at 140+ Mph
Yes! I'd absolutely love to see you run with these guys.
I love those things, Superkarts look like a blast to drive, but you have to be quite skilled or they'll help you meet your maker. Kudos to those drivers for being so brave! ✌️😄
" ... they'll help you meet your maker." Rubbish. Speed doesn't kill. Stopping suddenly does. You're probably safer racing one of these, assuming you're at least a competent race car driver, than driving in American cities. racing karts or cars does not require bravery. It required acquired competence. People that feel 'brave' to race are a danger to themselves and those they race against. They are obviously exceeding their competence level.
@@philipgrice1026Crashes at high speed happen in racing all the time even with highly skilled drivers. You can be as skilled as you want but if someone gets into you with wheel to wheel contact you could get launched all the same.
@@philipgrice1026 Bro saw one episode of top gear and considers himself an expert
Yes, absolutely yes, I would love to watch you do a full race if not more!
Scott !! You HAVE TO race these !! Can't wait to see the videos you'll make about it !
He already has. Check out his other channel called OVERDRIVE.
@@Someone-hy6xz He has driven one, not raced it
Drove myself for 2 seasons in Germany. Unforgettable experience and very expensive hobby. I’m missing it a lot. Nice to see that the sport is getting some attention now. Thank you.
Sorry, this is long;
The Adelaide SuperKart Club use to race with the motor bike clubs back in the 80's. The Karts were told they were no longer welcome because even the smaller 80cc Karts were faster than some of the bigger bikes and the 250cc's were setting lap records faster than the national level cars had set. The bike riders didn't like that. So they had to organise all their own events and had to have licenced officials. They asked if the local officials club to do the events. The club was the South Australian Motor Racing Officials club (S.A.M.R.O.A) who accepted. I was a member at the time and we were blown away by these little things and the racing they were capable of! I have some fond memories of some amazing racing at Adelaide International Raceway (A.I.R.) and Mallala Motorsport Park. If you don't know these tracks please Google these them to save me describing them later. At the end of the event/weekend the Superkart club invited all the officials back to their paddock shed and feed and "watered" us. The amount of drivers who came up to us as individuals to thanks us took us back as it never happened much back then from the cars guys.
A lot of other officials didn't attend, at first, because they didn't think it would be worth it. Word soon got around the to others how great they were. How fantastic the racing and how mental the speeds they were doing. The classes that raced at first were 80cc, 125 cc, 250cc National (single cylinder) and 250 International (twin cylinder) and with 5 or 6 speed gearboxes. One driver I remember, nick named "The Professor" not because he was like Prost but how he built his Karts. He ran an enclosed body with a very laid down seating position and ground effects with a 125cc engine. He was challenging some of the midfield 250 Internationals. He went on to build a twin 125cc engined Kart with enclosed body work and ground effects. He sat between the engines and classed as a 250 International. He did well but not as dominant as when he raced the single 125. The fields were always large and the 80's always had the biggest field due to their cost.
There were crashes like any other form of motor racing would have and I can not think of any seriously hurt drivers except for one at A.I.R. This driver clipped another which launched his Kart into the air and into the concrete barrier along the main straight as A.I.R. had a drag strip too. I think it was a 250 National. There were two wheel marks a blue sidepod mark and helmet mark on the wall about half a metre off the ground for a very long time after. The driver suffered brain damage and I don't think he ever recovered. Most of the crashes were damaged steering or nose cones knocked off the Karts.
I was lucky enough to have a go at a 80cc Kart. It was great to see what a driver got to see as an official and a hell of a lot of fun too. One of our club members and a friend of mine was having a test day and invited a few of us out for a spin at Mallala. If I was being timed I didn't know it. So I had no idea how I went, but that wasn't the point. I knew I was getting quicker. Of course I had a spin too. Only way to find the limit. Even in the 80cc it was amazing how fast it was, I had driven Sprint Karts before and they were not as fast due to not having a gearbox. Both are awesome fun in their own way. I could go on an don about these things. They're just great fun to see.
I implore anyone to have a go at these amazing and awesome little machines! Racing one must be a huge buzz, no pun intended. So Mr Mansell, grow some big balls, not for courage, more for centre of gravity and race one. These race machines are overly under rated!
For the last Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix in Adelaide before it went to Melbourne, the Super Kart support race were invited back and were laping faster than the F1 cars around the street circuit. Senna was so keen on the racing that he almost missed the F1 drivers parade because he was watching the Super Karts going through different sections around the track and had to be picked up on a motor bike and driven back to the pits.
GO for it Scott! I think you will dominate;-)
My dad is in these clips black kart, number 29 - Bob Johnstone. He won the British GP championships in 1986! Lovely to see him racing as it was before I was born!
I just love karting at all levels. Would be great to see you do the series. Go for it Scott.
Yes, I would love to see you race one of these Super Karts. Have fun!
Of course I would love to see you race one of them
I built a highly modified honda cr250 super kart 20 yrs ago, and i got it up to 160 mph with plenty of rpm range to go. I made a custom butterfly shifter just under the steering wheel to keep both hands on the wheel at all times. All my friends who drove it named it the death machine. It was a crazy fast machine.
I'd love to see you race in superkarts! Amazing video as always, love it when you explain and comment while watching others drive
Would love to see them on Monaco track.
F1 in an alternate universe: SUPERKART
Would love to see you race one this year!
Oh yes please do make content around riding these! Carting videos are super fun.
Man.. A whiplash in these will be so insane 😱
Yes, race one of these!
Yeah absolutely race them!!!
Yes please come to Assen and race one of these monsters. BossGP and Superkarts are the best two car race series which drive this track.
Yes! I do want to see you racing a super kart
Yes absolutely go for it.
If you think Superkarts at Adelaide is crazy, I had a video in the mid nineties called This is Karting which included a section showing superkarts racing around a village on the Isle of Mann.
But I’d say take the offer to race one up.
I love those superkarts and I would love to see you race one
This is one of the most exciting race series ever! Hard to find them on the internet, but when you do, its a treat! I drove a Shifter Cart for 2 laps at an SCCA Autocross event, and it was amazing! They are not forgiving tho, and can be brutal on your body!
Absolutely correct. I'm assuming you drove a 125 sprit shifter?
I have two, and they are many times MORE difficult to drive and hard on the body from the same chassis with a single speed/ centrifugal clutch 100cc kart.
Are you kidding? Documenting one of the most terrifying Motorsports for us? Give! Spot on that someone finally give you a go at one of these weapons properly!
In the early days of the Long Beach GP.... they ran the karts as an exhibition race prior to the F1 cars. They were not invited back in later years, as they turned faster lap times than the F1cars.
I've heard that is true w/ other tracks that have multiple slower corners w/ acceleration zones, few high speed turns where F1 can use their huge downforce advantage, and don't have a high top speed.
Also come on over to Willow Springs in southern California and try the 600 & 1000cc formula pacific cars (I believe Eddie Lawson holds the outright track record in a 1000)
Definitely want to see Scott race these
YES a full race in a 250 superkart😊😊 also i bit of cost comparison to 125 sprint clutch & shifter karts.
I’d watch every single race of your super-kart season
The idea of showing motorsport season from the backstage is soooo gooooood 😅🤩
Amazing to see a thirdparty give an insight into a sport i have spent tousands of hours watching as a kid;
My dad have been building and driving these 250cc superkarts for 45 years
Thanks for making a rare review into this sport!
That would be great to see you race a superkart.
Do it! Go race superkart! I onces thought of buying one and two ex-f1 drivers said ... 'euh, no. Are you sure?' (vd garde, Doornbos). And the supercar world champion (vd kooi) talked me out of it. Hearing you, it was very good for me to listen (and I'm a stubborn sob)
I've always wanted to blast one of these around a track!
please do a championship in one of these Karts, The content would be Great! i have a Tony kart with a 125cc Rotax engine and i would love to jump in one of these superkarts one day
This is wild, much respect to drivers
Would love to see a kart race
Love to see you race one of these karts, if you can't I will race it. 😂😂😂
Please race this kart. Would greatly enjoy that. I would also enjoy, you making a video of how one can get into super kart racing.
HELLS YES!!! RACE THE SUPERKART!!!!
Yes, please race one and do a full race video.
Also, consider doing a video on the 125cc shifter sprint karts. I'm assuming they are sanctioned for racing in the UK? They are quite popular here in the US. My son & I each have one.
YES we want to see you racing a Superkart
Absolutely I want to see you race a superkart
PLEASE RACE ONE OF THESE!!!!!!!!
Really fascinating stuff! Great video!
Yes, please race in SuperKart. I bet you’d dominate Scott!
I wanna see Scott race one of these bad boys!
These karts look insane!
They are
YES RACE THEM!
Would be cool to see all the details and setup of a superkart race weekend.
I agree. I would watch whatever the format is but filming as if to give pit passes to the channel and see how the kart is setup would be brilliant!
I second Scott racing in one of these!
Would love to see you race one of these
Please race super karts. I’d love to see that.
Go drive the superkart races ! sounds like great content.
Definitely do a season in the superkart. I'd like you to concentrate on the setup and development process from an out of the crate kart. One change at a time and demonstrate the improvement and tweeks.
I can't imagine driving these things around Sebring. Especially the concrete sections. You need a chiropractor.
Crashing and immediately catching fire reminds me of F1 in the 70s.
Promote go-kart racing? ABSOLUTELY!!!! I WOULD LOVE TO WATCH THIS RACING 🏁
Please! Drive one of those, please please please!!
Yes! Do it!
Do a whole season in the Karts
Yes yes and yes, love to watch you race
I used to race 250 National on short circuit tracks. The best fun you'll ever have with a 65-70 bhp 250cc single! 0-100 mph was something like 6.5 secs for us. I never had the budget or balls to race the twins though. Seeing this video has bought back some great memories though.
@driver61 you have to race them! You're racing career won't be complete until you do it!
Following a string of deadly accidents during the 90s, the Superkarts were switched to a rolling start only and put on some serious extra weight, a result of reinforcements on the chassis forced by the CIK.
The Dutch, Perry Gronstra, if I remember his name correctly because it's been decades, took the outright lap record at Knockhill during the World Championship superkart race, and won a prize from BP? Shell? for his efforts.
Since then, the Superkarts haven't gone any faster where every other motorsport discipline has.
But the experience remains unparalleled.
To all intents and puirposes the single cylinder 250s are the class that has the potential to popularize long circuit karting for being exciting and much more affordable.
Pleaseeeee race these karts this year and stick it on YT, the more karting content the better imo just to push the sport further into the limelight, I can no longer race anymore unfortunately due to money reasons (it’s still an expensive sport even in x30, rotax, etc) but driving one of these is a dream, or maybe nightmare, of mine, it’s so much fun and as you said, I genuinely don’t think you can get closer to that F1 level of feeling without being in an F1 car, nothing comes close! Brilliant video 🙏🏻
You think you need to ask if we want to see you race a super cart? Of Course we do!
Having weird déjà vu vibes...haven't I watched this video yet? I'm I the chosen one?
Same vies for me bro
No
Agree I've seen this
Same!
Same
can't wait to see you race one of these.
Yes, we would love to see you race one and get all the inside details! 🏎️
YES, you should race.
I would love to see more w super karts
Yes, race!
Yes, race it and YES I want to see it
See you race one? Absolutely!
PLEASE RACE !! YES YES YESSS
Yes race it!
11:55 no.14 lovely move 👌
I have a YZ80 powered one I use for fun and if you gear it down for a regular kart track it wheelies on the clutch....hilarious
DO IT SCOTT
Do it! Yes race one this year! From the way you ask the question, I think your mind is already made up!
This was awesome!
I would move to see an overengineered Superkart not gonna lie, it would be interesting to see what's the maximum amount of pace a kart would be able to do so if it had more money and development poured into it
Yes, do race. Please!!!
Pls race in these super karts
Yes... I want to see u race in one of this.
Come on Scott, you have to do it!
Not just yes, but hell yes,,,,,
10:36 This is like Mario Kart, but in the real world 😂
graphics are getting too good nowadays
Scott ,as a (very) experienced racer you must race a Superkart, they are the most exciting things to race ( I know having raced them and other types of motorsport) these ARE THE BEST. Race drivers love deep late braking and Superkarts can hammer well into corners.. an utter buzzzzz. My advice is to work on strengthening your wrists cos not only do they assist in steering but also are a key part of holding on for dear life....LOL. Also if they are still available get a (soft) neck brace too. JFYI re the Adelaide Superkart crash, the driver who was (on pole position) and leading before the crash was an extremely talented lady driver called Barbara Hepworth (who was was not a youngster then). I believe the crash was due to some light rain that had sprinkled on that part of the track. A nasty accident but as you can see she and the other drivers survived. I look forward to watching your race. Good Luck.
"Maybe that is why they are giving much of space to each other".
Well yes fear of death is a really convincing force.
It isn't just fear to shunt but everyone knows that the other one is also pushing to the limit. And when you lose the grip with karts it is like a block of ice on frozen lake.
No one wants to get remotely hit and put out of balance by a sliding driver at 200.
yes we'd like to see you race one
Yes come and race one
Dare you to a race-off in one o' these
Go for it
YES Race it! I got to drive one at a sprint at Phillip Island in the 90's, and my god the bruises I had afterwards. A very smooth circuit but these things are mental, being so small and nimble you would take corners flat that are hard brakes in even a Formula Ford
