Can you imagine how upset she must have been, when the president was killed. I heard he adored her. She is nothing more than just pure class.

Sang it like its suppose to be sung, with a beautiful voice and no ridiculous embellishments like some of them do now. Very nice.

Exactly four years earlier Anderson sang it in B flat. Here, age 63, she did it in A flat.

This great American sang for the Pope and foreign dignitaries/ royalty the world over. She sang in several languages and Toscanini said a voice like hers comes but once in 100 years. What a privilege to hear her song our National Anthem with the spirit and beauty for which it was intended. She didn't try to change it or add extra notes or "show boat". She was the first Black woman "allowed" to sing at the Metropolitan Opera (Others could have. See Madame Sisseretta Jones). This contralto had a truly beautiful voice where she could express any mood, tone, or color that a composer intended. Even in old age she sounded amazing almost like an organ.

I had no idea Jack had an African American sing the anthem at his swearing-in.
God can you imagine just how much that galled wealthy racists both in and out of government halls.

In 1939, after the DAR refused to allow her to sing at Constitution Hall, Eleanor Roosevelt arranged for her to sing in an open-air concert at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. 75,000 people attended, about 20 times more than Constitution Hall can seat.
Her first song? My Country, Tis 'o Thee.

Um explendor em cantar o hino de sua pátria e aqui na minha pátria colocam Ludimila que não sabe nem o hino do seu país para cantar! Isso sim e representar seu país!

Wonderful voice. She is also singing at a time when blacks were barred from many places too. Not sure she can be proud of her country after it treated her and fellow black people so disgracefully. All credit to her. .

She did more for the equality movement in many decades than almost any other artist.
Nikki Minaj erased half that progress by releasing one song.
    Times are changing

Nicki Minaj is not even American. Also, why is it that a single black celebrity can supposedly erase progress for African Americans, yet the long line of ridiculous and embarrassing white celebrities have no impact on THEIR rights or reputation?
