The water one is so hard for me. I have autism/adhd and one of my sensory issues is never feeling thirsty or receiving cues from my body to drink water. I feel hungry, but never thirsty. Whenever I remember to drink water, I end up guzzling it.
The way the guy presented the idea wasn't productive though. You did a much better job exaining that people should drink water throughout the day.
I think that's why i get confused when people give advice online. For example, sometimes maybe 1/3 of their point is correct, but then the other 2/3's is misinformed. I like that you break down which part is correct and which part is incorrect. Thank you for sharing your knowledge 😊

Online advice is THE WORST for us neurodivergent folk. It will be contradictive and often makes no sense.
You need to use the logical part of your brain, which means you need to fact check - which will likely light up our ASD brains like a Christmas tree, however it will become exhausting.
So in order to make things more simple for our exhausted, panicky, brains, we begin to narrow our lives, along with the foods we will eat, until, bang, we've got ourselves a full blown eating disorder.
I don't know the solution, because once you've been looking online that door is wide open - other than to see ONE dietitian for advice. But, it's hard...

The water information makes so much sense. I grew up with severe enuresis that worsened with night. To this day, it still has to be controlled through medication or I have accidents all day and all night. So while I was growing up, my fluids were heavily restricted and measured to keep me functional in school and to prevent triggering more accidents. I'm 34 and struggle so much with understanding the difference between thirst and hunger. My body is unable to tell the difference between them, and it has really impacted my health over time. I can't imgaine not having to deal with that but inducing it through trying to hack a calorie deficit with water. Dieting keeps so many of us in such a chokehold.

Love both of those lipstick colours on you!
I am in the minority as I will hardly lose any weight by being in a moderate caloric deficit without any exercise. Even if I move enough (but not doing exercise), my weight will not shift. I am petite (but not slim petite) and my body seems to be unnervingly energy efficient.
And contrary to popular opinion, heavy cardio does not increase my appetite at all. Quite the opposite, it reduces my appetite substantially (and your explanation on cortisol might be the reason, now I finally know why).
So the "just eat less to lose weight" or "you can't outrun your fork" advice doesn't work for me, and never has. Exercise for weight loss seems to be mandatory for my body.

    • @aussiejubes
      @aussiejubes 5 місяців тому +4

  • @Avistew

My problem with nuts is that I binge on them 😅Tried eating just a handful but it makes me crave more, while I can go without any at all more easily. And if I do binge it's 2k-3k calories in 20 minutes, easy. Even bingeing on candy I ate less calories than with nuts, because candy's too sweet for me to keep going but I don't have that problem with nuts.
But they're a healthy source of fat, just don't eat as many as I do and you'll be fine!

I completely lost my appetite and I sadly also lost my sense of taste and smell so I’m still struggling to eat, and only enjoy eating about 10% of the time. It fucking sucks. I completely agree with you on the exercise it is not 50-50. Weight loss is all about your diet. And most people cannot exercise enough to keep up with the amount of food they eat, unless they have a calorie deficit. I mean it takes over 20 min of exercise just to burn off a cookie. People need to think about that. Exercise should be about the kind of body shape you want, getting your heart rate up, getting those endorphins, and feeling well. you should not use it for weight loss because in most cases you’ll end up injuring yourself and you’ll just put the weight right back back on bc you can’t exercise as hard. Plus most people don’t have as much time in the day to exercise unless it’s your job such as a personal trainer.

Not eating nuts doesn't resolve the situation for some people who do have eating disorders or like me, certain things can literally make me throw up if it hits my palet wrong.

After the holidays, I want to fast one day a week. What is your opinion on this?

Regarding the "water before eating" thing, I was trying to find a reasonable weight loss supplement last year and they all had instructions like "take half an hour before eating with a pint of water or more". I started drinking a glass of water (sometimes a pint, often less) a bit before each meal and didn't spend the £80 per month on sawdust pills, and I definitely started losing weight faster.

I have heard so many contrasting "studies" and opinions on nuts/seeds. I follow someone who helps with PCOS and hormone balancing and she is very against nuts in a diet. In contrast, my family doctor asked me stepdad to eat a handful of mixed nuts, sunflower seeds & chia seeds to help after lymes & some blood issues they found. I think it definitely depends on the information you're looking for but i just don't get why it's healthy to some and not to others

Someone has to do something like Abbey's doing with the body building channels. I haven't heard such eating disordered talk since I was in psych in the early 2000s. It's insane and appears to now be moving toward women, especially in relation to using external substances.
Any video that does currently attempt to pull a part some of the issues always, ALWAYS, has a caveat of, "he/she obviously looks fantastic and has great genetics...." Imagine if Abbey was saying that about Eugenia Cooney, and then went on to explain a few of the dangers - we wouldn't listen!
Point being, if there's anyone out there, more artistic and confident than I, there is a need for a channel that you could create!!

Addressing stress and making sure we have the right treatment plan with our doctor has helped me gain weight and my husband lose weight without any major changes to exercise or diet. We did add nutrition and mindfully reduce things like red meat and sugar where it made sense too. But we have never cut anything completely or dramatically either

As a chronically ill girlie I was told that water intake should be 4-8 250ml cups per day (depending on weather and what your doing etc) any more than that is a bonus but you don’t actually *need* like gallons and gallons.
Plus, although just water is ideal- things like squash and tea also counts within that 4-8 cups too! You just have to keep in mind that you may want a tiny bit extra liquid just because of the extra ingredients in something like squash could ever so slightly dehydrate.
The way my doc explained it was if 1 cup meant your body got 100% water then squash might be 95%. But ultimately it’s still a good amount of hydration so alls good 👏🏻

I've lost 25lbs in 4 months (another 25 to go!) and here's how Ive hacked exercise to do it sustainably.
    1. Plan for a very modest weekly loss via diet. I organized my food around 250 calorie deficit per day, equalling -0.5lb/week. Super doable for most anyone
    2. Do 3-4 hard workouts per week, totalling about 4 hours or 1200 callories burned per week.
Now when you add those two together, you end up at around 0.75 lb per week loss in a way that is not just sustainable but also true fat loss. My body never feeaked out and thought it was starving and in reality I usually lost more than 1lb per week.
On top of that, I ended up taking a break due to an injury and the holidays. So for almost 2 months very little exercise and I didn't restrict or even track my food. Total weight gained? Less than a pound. My body had reset its metabolic set point with the very slow, mixed weight loss.
Some other hacks that likely helped: Massive increase in protein. I'm at 150 gr per day, about 35% of total calories. Waaaay more water. I drink 3-3.5 litres per day. Lots and lots of veg. (Nothing wring with fruit but I just don't like it. So spinach, carrots, and broccoli for me.)
After a 7 week break I've restarted my diet and exercise and after two weeks 1.8 lbs down. Turtling my way to my goal!

Im AuDHD and have already problems to distinct if I’m hungry or thirsty. Also forgot to hydrate all the time, that’s why I always need a full bottle of water next to me so that I actually drink something.
It also helped to have a full Glas of water to every meal I take. Plus portion control and eating loads of vegetables (and occasionally peanuts, cause they’re the only nuts I like and can eat - have problems with my jaw) helped me lose 10kg in 10 weeks this year.
That was nearly all the pregnancy weight that was left (from freaking 30kg I gained during my pregnancy in 22). And now I’m pregnant again and by week 14 still haven’t gained any weight, but baby is fine though! I’m just trying to avoid eating sweets that much… but it’s hard cause of my toddlers sleeping issues I only get 4 hours of sleep every night…. 😢

That lovely Harvard study says it’s not the amount you’re eating sometimes, it’s where the calories come from. I typically eat less than 1000 calories a day. Always have my whole life because everyone has always made fun of me since I was little, and I don’t have a large appetite either, never have. Never lost weight even though doctors always tell me ‘have you tried’ and I give them the run down that I’ve always been heavy, I don’t gain weight, or lose weight. Only time I ever did was when I worked out hard and didn’t consume more than 700 calories. I managed to lose five pounds over two months. But walking 4 miles three times a week on top of lifting 10-50lbs at work all night without sitting 5 nights a week, that’s all that happened. 5lbs of weight loss. Couldn’t sleep. Was losing sleep just to go on those walks because I’m a midnight shifter. Then my watch tells me at work I burned 2,000 calories but I had eaten less than 1,100. Never lose. I give up. My body has a set weight.

Just because you count calories doesn't mean you should skip more calorie dense options like nuts but I just make sure to respect portion sizes and budget it . Some fat in your diet is essential . While I also agree that only drinking protein shakes it's not the greatest it' sounds like it's only meant to be a week-long fast and you could easily be consuming a lot more than a mere 600 or 700 calories a day depending on the brand and size of the drinks and whether you're having the recommended 6 a day as opposed to 4 .
