Went for Boy Scouts when I was like 11. Me and my best friend found some really tight, very hidden, probably unexplored spaces. We got very, very deep in before I convinced him to turn around before we got stuck, something collapsed, or someone came in and blocked our exit by not being able to turn around at the entrance. It was fun, but fuck that dude. Fun, but terrifying. And very, very unpleasantly wet.

it seems like the more the group of women descend into the cave the more their friendships begin to unravel and I think the monsters are personification of all the secrets that are in that friend circle that had to slowly be revealed to the surface
I legitimately had to walk out in the middle of the movie. In fire school, we had to train inside cargo containers that were converted into tiny obstacle courses. In 95 degree heat, in full turnout gear, in the dark, we had to crawl through these mazes while instructors reached in through a side room to turn off our SCBA cylinders, clamp the hoses, and other general fuckery. I got stuck crawling through a tight corridor with one armed pinned beneath me. The instructor turned off my air so I was essentially breathing a vacuum. Honestly going into this movie blind was such a treat. I thought the movie was going to be a survival story after they get trapped in the caves underground. THAT was terrifying enough. Then they added in monsters stalking them and I was literally on the edge of my seat the whole time. 10/10 would highly recommend watching it if you haven't. Great strong female characters too.
She went back for her out of guilt over the affair with her husband, she'd have left her otherwise, like she did to Beth. Great movie, but I cannot watch it again. Forget the monsters, the terrifying tightness of the caves and the claustrophobia is too much. Love how they mention Tomb Raider. Who knew that 8 years later they would include the blood pool scene as well as the „coming to the surface scene“ in the 2013 remake
I just watched this with my mum, dad, and brother. It's a fantastic horror movie but holy shit you get so caught up in the characters and their dynamics with each other that their deaths actually hit hard. It's been about half an hour since we finished it and I still feel like I want to cry. 9/10
Juno's actions are kind of justifiable. They didn't know how to fight the crawlers and she just had a burst of adrenaline. It makes sense that she stabbed Beth. Edit: I know she is essentially the cause of all their deaths but I'm only referring to her stabbing Beth.
But she told the other girls she was killed by the monsters. She tried to hide the fact that she stabbed her. A real friend would tell the other friends what had happened.
@@ioanevans6763 Yeah, can you imagine being in that cave with these creepy crawlers and having these head lamps. Wished for few more to have gotten out alive.
The whole story is an analogy with Sarah's depression. So in a deleted scene, Sarah had a vision with one of the crawlers in the hospital and she never had contact with them before. The depth, the darkness, the desolation and the monsters we have to face with the depression. The light comes with her true friend, Beth and with the visions of her daughter. The light of hope in all that darkness.
Eleftheria Eleftheria Agreed and agreed, 👌 👌. The ending confused me. I didn’t know if she ever actually did all that ending stuff when she stabbed Juno, or what...? Cheers!
I never kept track of when the crawlers first show up. But hearing 60 mins makes me smile. My dad isn't into films with fantastical elements, and a few years ago I pretended I hadn't watched The Descent, asked him if he'd be up for watching a film about people trapped while caving, didn't let him watch the trailer. He sat there patiently watching it with me waiting for it to "get good", then the first time you see the silhouette of a crawler and he realised what kind of film it was, he looked at me, rolled his eyes and went to bed early. His loss. I love the film.
What's really crazy is that the crawlers in this film may actually be based on something that exists. There are VAST unexplored cave systems that have bioluminescent cave flowers and things you wouldn't believe. There's literally sightings creatures very much like this dating back long before this movie sometimes referred to as mole people. Who knows what they really are. They could be humans that lived in underground and their inbred offspring that were able to pass on their genes were the ones who could crawl through the caves and cannibalize whatever they can grab. They've been known to come to the surface from time to time and grab a snack... some unlucky hiker, or a baby. There's actually a guy in Oregon who got some pretty good footage of one o. A trailcam I. His yard
In a traumatic situation like a plane crash or mass shooting or attack by Appalachian humanoids, people aren't thinking or reacting rationally or clearly, just as quickly as they can in the moment. Neither Juno or Beth was really in the wrong here, shit just happens when shit is going down. Mistakes are made.
@@brendanfoehr5086 Yeah. I don't think Juno was necessarily in the wrong with killing Beth. She was undoubtedly in the wrong about sleeping with Sarah's husband and lying about accidentally killing Beth, though.
Having seen the movie it felt less like Beth snuck up on Juno on purpose and more than that Juno had lost herself so deeply in the fight that she just assumed anything moving was a Crawler. Pretty sure Beth could have been shouting Juno’s name and hitting a cow bell and Juno still would have swung.
I'm from NC and have been spelunking in the Appalachian mountains many times, I know this was filmed in the UK but it's amazing how much Scotland looks like the Blue Ridge mountains.
If I may ask a kill count of “cabin in the woods” would actually be dope PS: kill counts drop at like 11pm in Australia and I didn’t think to email him at 11pm
This is one of the very few horror films that does jump scares correctly. There are no ear-raping noises and they're not gratuitously used. Bless you, Neil Marshall!
this movies cinematography was sooooo good. the nature shots were amazing and every shot inside the cave really built suspense and was anxiety inducing just like it was supposed to be. I also really liked the red lighting from the blood that contrasted with the green lighting of the glowstick. And the shot where sarah was completely covered in blood and her eyes stand out so well is amazing. this movie was *chefs kiss* in cinematography.
Its funny how i thought the jumpscares would be i dont know, scary? So i found this comment only to realise the jumpscares were not scary at all (Not as scary as my gramar and spelling anyway)
Not to mention the fact she just saw a bunch of monsters murder her friend and one trying to kill her too after a surprise jump attack from behind. I really dont get why people call it "victim blaming" when people point this out. whether or not it was Beth's fault, Juno didnt mean to kill her. She was running on pure survival mode.
@@xBloodxFangx She also left her to die without even checking up on whether she's dead or not and continued to lie about her to cover her own ass. People would definitely get off her back more if she had at least come clean about accidentally injuring her. But then again, this entire movie is on her, so people will be extra harsh when it comes to judging her.
@@marksimon2085 I get people saying that she at least should have had the courtesy to see if she was alive or stay around to help her but seriously ask yourself what else she could have done for her. Beth wounds were serious there was know way she would have survived a wound like that, I know this sounds harsh but she was already a deadman, so for Juno to stay behind and treat her wounds was putting her at risk of getting killed. Personally the best thing Juno could have done for Beth was to kill her but out of mercy, better that than leave her there to killed and eaten by the monster. Granted she could have been honest and when she meet up with the other girls and admit her action. Looking at the the situation they probably would have understood the action regardless if they didn’t like the outcome, which is Beth dying by the hands of her friend.
@@yvetterocksyeah She could have mercy killed her like MC did. Sarah found the time do it despite all the crawlers which makes Juno running off and lying about it even worse. But as I said, Juno is guilty of a lot more things like even getting them into this situation in the first place. Even without crawlers she was being very reckless leading her friends down some unknown cave parts. Also, sleeping with her friend's husband. The audience is going to start scrutinizing everything you do when you become such a magnet for shitty decisions. If killing Beth was her only offense, people would probably get off her back more
Few things I love about the movie: 1) The Cave Crawlers reminds me of the Falmer from Skyrim, which were both annoying and very interesting lore-wise. 2) It takes place in the Appalachians, a place I’ve grown up very close to, and a place of such beauty. 3) It’s a great horror movie, as it plays on both natural and fictional fears. 4) It makes some sense. The Appalachians are very old, and old things tend to contain some mysteries. The producers of this film did an amazing job portraying the Appalachians, especially for a company not based in them. Do wish they explored the Cave Crawlers a bit more. Although I suppose adding a bit of mystery to them adds to the horror. Good video regardless, James! You and your team keep up the good work!
Bruh when I was like 10, I remember staying up all night in my mom’s room and this came on the TV and I was never the same again. I now have a fear of caving/spelunking.
Glip Glop Holy cow. I was like 9 and watched it from 11 pm to 1 am with my mother, too. I just rewatched it on DVD and caught things I missed when younger. I thought it was a female crawler in the car at the end, not Juno. Also, I only saw that ending and thought she maybe died. Seeing the DVD ending today was crazy because I didn’t know if it meant the whole ending from when she was knocked out was fake or of she just passed out after stabbing Juno. Cheers!
Thank you for mentioning the “the thing” music, everyone thought I was crazy when I got all excited about it and started searching to see if it was on purpose or not
James: “This movie is great at jump scares, and I just couldn’t help but to include a bunch in this episode, so, you know, heads up.” Me:....................you bastard.
Interesting behind the scenes tidbit: When the girls first encounter the Crawlers with the night vision camera, they legitimately hadn't seen the creatures on set, and were never told during the scene that they would encounter them. The reaction that you see in that scene was 100% real, and wasn't scripted. The girls genuinely got the shit scared out of them.
Also saw that clip, it might have been in filmcomicsexplained or endingsexplained video on the descent since it was definitely someone elses channel I saw it on
I own this movie and yes it's on the behind the scenes feature. They kept the crawlers a surprise from the cast, wanted it to be true fright. They actually enjoyed hanging with the crawlers they were funny guys.
I loved Holly so much and was so bummed out when she died, i liked her sassy attitude and character so much, and i think it would have been so interesting to see her torn apart between a murderous Sarah, and a untrustful Juno, she had so much potential to have an amazing character arc.
If you see the movie it looked like Beth was coming to help Juno and Juno mistook the scuttling for a crawler coming and as soon as she got up she turn cut her
Maybe if Juno actually took them to the cave they were suppose to go to, they would of been in a situation share Beth would end up sneaking up to her!?
Foreshadowed the sequel with him not including Juno’s “death”, though if there wasn’t one then she would’ve been very likely killed by those numerous crawlers.
Rork, The Game Master In previous kill counts, James has included people on the kill count if we don’t see them again in the movie or the sequels (if any). So Juno and Sarah might be included in the sequel (haven’t watched it so idk).
Fern not to spoil anything but yeah, the sequel explains why they’re not on the count, good to know James looks into the sequels since it would be awkward if a kill is counted and a sequel defeats that.
@@TheJthedog let me point you towards the saw franchise, he didnt count a death until it was confirmed to happen. So a memoriam or showing the kill/body even if there was no chance of survival. So even if jude was killed there, it wouldnt be counted until we got a confirmation in the sequel or from the director.
This was one of the only horror movies that ever scared me. Axel Nilsson It’s not the worst sequel ever made but I have a lot of issues with it for a couple reasons. Your Movie Sucks’s video on it kinda captures my complaints well

@@rex788 Shame and guilt are powerful. It would have been best to explain but for obvious reasons lying isn't an unnormal response
She literally left her to die in like these horrible way possible though?? At least put her out of her misery not leave her to get eaten by crawlers

Thats kinda funny hes such a realist from the sound of it, sounds like your dad is ron swanson
Probably didn’t wanna get her attention by making noise and risk attracting crawlers. Still a questionable move though.

In Juno's defence Beth scared her when she had a weapon in her hand and had adrenaline pumping in massive amounts through her viens
@@marksimon2085
I get people saying that she at least should have had the courtesy to see if she was alive or stay around to help her but seriously ask yourself what else she could have done for her.
If killing Beth was her only offense, people would probably get off her back more
@@marksimon2085 I love how the only defendable trait about Juno is that she ACCIDENTALLY killed one of her friends.
Few things I love about the movie:
1) The Cave Crawlers reminds me of the Falmer from Skyrim, which were both annoying and very interesting lore-wise.

Interesting behind the scenes tidbit:
When the girls first encounter the Crawlers with the night vision camera, they legitimately hadn't seen the creatures on set, and were never told during the scene that they would encounter them. The reaction that you see in that scene was 100% real, and wasn't scripted. The girls genuinely got the shit scared out of them.
@Karl Dennis

Beth shouldn't have crept up on Juno like that.

Fern not to spoil anything but yeah, the sequel explains why they’re not on the count, good to know James looks into the sequels since it would be awkward if a kill is counted and a sequel defeats that.
