So beautiful.
They are so beautiful!
These make stunning hanging baskets, some even reblooming !
Good point! Thanks for mentioning it.
I love listening to your naturally slow-paced vocal tempo (giving me time to learn) while I'm visually absorbing and delighting in these glorious images, Debra. Always a pleasure!!!
I probably go too fast in most of my videos. Working on it! Thanks, Shari.
@@QueenofSucculents I doubt that's true, but my ADD loves a slower pace. :~)
Amazing color and beauty! So many ways to use ice plants!
Thank you, Jane!
Beautiful
Such beautiful amazing blooms! Love them all, especially the aloe blooms! 💚
I know, right!?
Loved the info and the bright cheery blooms of the ice plants. Your photos are gorgeous! I especially like the different combinations using ice plants and other drought resistant plants. Beautiful!
Thank you dear Pat!
Thank you for another inspiring video! You are so generous with your knowledge and have the best videos.

Thank you Debra! Great info
You are so welcome!
Stunning. Wish we could grow more of these in Tucson.
What a treat!!! Thank you so much, luckily I can find ice plants in the nurseries in Querétaro, México where I'm from. I love your videos because I learn from them. I share with my friends and family.
That's so nice to hear. Thanks, Isabel!
Beautiful plants, I really like and have them. 👍
Yay! May they bring you much joy!
Hi Debra. Loved this video. We have succulent iceplants (Disney iceplants, like they have all over Disneyland) growing down a large hillside area. We find them very hearty and we do walk on them or crab-walk on them to pull weeds out in between. They are VERY hearty. We always do the weeding in the early morning before they open up and before the bees visit the blooms!
Thank you, Renee! I'd love to see a photo of your large hillside in full bloom. Very smart to beat the bees!
Are these all of your plants!? Oh em gee beautiful! And I’m jealous as jealous can be!
Hi Jennifer---No, it's a compilation of plants I've seen in various gardens.
Hi Debra.
I live in the UK and really like the ice plant varieties. I have a few lampranthus and delosperma plants .also a begeranthus yellow.
They are mostly in pots as I only have a small garden .I'm really enjoying growing them and I've got a few different types and colours. The most recent one I got is a drosanthemum micans which had really nice frosty ice like leafs that are amazing close up.cant wait to see everything in bloom.
Would love it if you can do anything more about ice plants Soon on your site or UA-cam.
Keep up the good work. 👍
Thanks, Tony. I love the leaves that look like they're covered with ice crystals!
Great introduction to ice plants. Stunning photos! Do regular nurseries have ice plants appropriate for containers?
Thank you so much, Steve!
I got some cuttings from a lampranthus deltoides when it wasn't in flower. I just liked the shape of the leaves and thought it would make a good addition to sprinkle around in my container garden. I can't remember what time of year that was, but what I do know is that last May, during the lockdown, I had an explosion of the tiny pink flowers. I was in heaven! I cut it back after it flowered and now have a couple of "bushes" of my own. Will it flower every year? I hope, I hope, I hope! The flowers and colors of this video are exquisite! Loved it!
Hi Cathy -- I don't see why it wouldn't flower every spring. Sounds like you're doing everything right!
Okay, somewhere I got the idea that they didn’t flower every year. I’ll erase that thought and watch them blooming soon! Take care!
Which ice plant is your favorite? It's like picking a sherbet. I think I like raspberry (rose-red) but they're all enticing!
I need to go shopping this weekend. Beautiful!
Beautiful video and ID links are nice, but would love to see Zones, cold hardy temps, height & width info
As stated in the video, I show varieties suitable for mild-climate, California gardens: Lampranthus and Drosanthemum. For cold-hardy varieties (such as Delosperma), please see the Cold-Hardy page of my site. Size at maturity varies depending on cultivation, but most (as stated) are ground covers.
They are the best flowering succulents, for sure. My experience with Lampranthus is that it starts looking unattractive after several years at which point it's better to pull it out and start over again with fresh cuttings. I made the mistake of planting Delosperma 'Firespinner' around smaller cacti. I had to remove the it because it was getting bigger than the cacti. The Delosperma grew to twice, nearly three times, the advertised maximum height! I opted for Ruschia nana, which does stay smaller (2-3" max height) and you can walk on it unlike any other ice plant. The downside is the flowers are rather small. Ice plants around cacti are helpful around xeric cacti in that they suck up any excess water.
Hi Jorge -- Where are you located? Interesting that the delosperma did so well for you. Thanks for the comment!
What varieties should do well on a south facing slope in portland? Zone 8a
Portland may be problematical. Best to check with your local garden center.
Hello I have planted a flower bed and used ice plants as ground cover would it be OK to plant flowers of other species buy it or will it kill the flower? ( I have marigold and zinnia flowers behind them)
Hi Rianna -- Yes, go ahead. It'll take a while for newly planted ice plants to engulf other plants. Those you mentioned are annuals, so they'll be long gone before the ice plant takes over. Sounds like a lovely combo!

Beautiful plants, and such an array of colors.
Can I plant ice plants next to my geraniums or will they choke them out and the other plants near by.
They look stunning together. Ivy geraniums blend well with ice plants, and don't seem to get smothered.
Sadly, mine was a cutting from Australia brought back to the Philippines, it didn't survive and take root from the cutting. 😔
Thank you for the upload Debra!🌻✨🌵✨
Thanks, JD. Bummer about the cutting.
Can you grow it in the low desert?
It's difficult to grow in the desert.
I have some and I live in the low desert they need partial shade in summer, full sun is way too intense for them out here.
@@Daniquas.Art. Thank you! It's a balancing act, to give them enough sun to bloom, but not so much that they scorch.
are ice plants perineals.
Hi Gary, Yes ice plants are perennials.
It’s a shame carpobrotus is problematic, I like the way they look, especially by the beach. All the others are very nice too
I know. I do grow it because it's so ornamental. But there's no way it'll jump fences or tear down cliffs where I live. Where that does happen, residents are understandably dismayed.
