I was at the Usyk Vs. Dubois fight, about 250 yards away from the front row, it was an open air event with a downpour, the ring was somewhat covered but it was still soaking wet. Both of them weren't able to plant their feet properly.
yeah, I could hear the boots squeaking when watching it on TV, and Usyk still dominated him every round, and not only that, after the low-blow in the 5th he forced the heavier, bigger, and supposedly stronger man to go on the back foot, people don't realize how strong Usyk really is, and how much pressure he applies.
Anyone remember the Jirov vs Norris fight on ESPN years ago? Not many do, an who would remember a boring Draw.
The fight was outside in the blazing heat, the ring had a metal frame setup above it with posts at the corners.
It was like fighting under a radiator outside during a heatwave.
The little stories and context can more interesting than the fights sometimes.

@@Velosirraton I don't think anyone predicted the weather, we certainly didn't since it was blazing sunshine the two days we were there before the fight, even on fight day. Everyone got absolutely drenched. There was definitely gabs on the cover because both of them were wet, you could tell when both of them landed/blocked on each other rain was splashing off of them both.
What I noticed with Usyk, where it's difficult to spot on screen, is his power. He's very, very conservative with his power, looks like he has a switch where he just turns it off and on when needed, I noticed it twice Vs. Dubois, the first in the 5th after the low blow, Dubois was on the back foot on an angle rearwards to the words, Usyk threw a backhand left & it snapped back Dubois' head like it was on a slinky, landed flush but Usyk was extending & Dubois was in retreat so it took the sting out of it somewhat, still it looked like it hurt.
The second was the jab that finished off Dubois. The audible thud that made could be heard through the ring's condenser mics/PA, that "jab" was a power shot.
I think both of them looked really good in this fight, Usyk looked like he did Vs. Joshua I, at least with his upper body movement & output, but the weather & ring setup hindered them both with regards to their footwork.

Fury is NOT 6’9”. He’s closer to 6’7.5”. Look at him next to Magic Johnson. I’m sick of everyone always saying he’s 6’9” when he’s not. It’s just because he wanted to be the tallest in Britain and David Price is 6’8”. Even look at them two standing next to one another.

Fury is shot. Legs are gone, punch resistance gone.
Usyk at 37 isn't quiet what he was a few years ago - but still has that formidable boxing brain.
I don't think it will be a pretty fight to watch as I can see Fury doing his 'jab and grab' routine as much as he can, lean all over Usyk, exactly what he usually does.
Everything will hinge on how Usyk deals with Fury up close, If Usyk can keep mobile, turning Fury constantly and making Fury work at a high tempo to tire him then Usyk wins comfortably.
If Usyk hasn't a plan for dealing with mr blobby up close the it'll be a lot closer.
I won't be surprised at a draw even if Usyk dominates as a rematch is already signed and we will have to go through it again, so forcing this to be a draw will be the promoters way of justifying a rematch. We all know the sport is as straight as a 3 pound note so i don't see Usyk getting many favours on the cards.
Fury loves to be the underdog, on top he's not stupid so I bet he used his last fight as a wake up call to be in perfect shape for the Usyk fight. For Usyk I think he will have an awesome gameplan to counter Furys physical advantages. But I just hope it will be a big fight and not just both playing the points game. And why you think they would favour Fury when they didn't gave him his victory by points in Fury vs Wilder 1 ?
Until the first punch lands I won't believe this fight is on. Fury is about as reliable as Conor Benn's egg man.
And to answer your question regarding slowing down. Usyk was carrying an injury vs Dubois, however, due to poor organisers they stuffed up and never covered the ring overnight so it was damp resulting in a slippery canvas. This is a fact you can read about it. Fury getting schooled! Can't wait!

I think in the Dubious fight (lol), Usyk was a little less willing to use his normal angles due to the wet conditions of the ring. You could hear their sneakers squeaking every time they moved their feet quickly.

Fury signed the undisputed fight within a year of Usyk beating AJ. Anthony Joshua ducked undisputed with Wilder 3 times in 2018 and ducked Usyk for 2 years.
Joshua only agreed to fight Usyk after watching him struggle against Chisora. In 2020, he petitioned IBF to move Pulev mandatory forward instead of defending his WBO belt against Usyk, kept talking about dropping the belt if Usyk took the fight to purse bid or didn't accept a One Way Rematch clause etc
Undisputed Champion Usyk signed up with Matchroom in September 2018 and expressed his desire to fight Joshua at heavyweight. He was officially made Joshua's WBO mandatory in June 2019 but Joshua didn't fight him until 25 September 2021.

They both deserve it, as they are both excellent boxers in their own right. They have different styles but are superb in their own way. Being a Brit if course I want the last 2 unified champs to be British, but Usyk is a good ambassador for the sport, see how it goes.

I would also say on the size front Tyson Fury has always said he struggles with boxers that are on the smaller size, (due to them finding it easier to get on the inside) the quickest Tyson Fury has been knocked down was in round 2 against Cunnigham his shortest opponent and the one that weighed the least as well and Cunnigham was never known for his power either. So in terms of size it is not the kind of fighter Tyson Fury likes to fight although at the same time, I would not say Usyk is a top class inside or pressure boxer compared to the past, which again gives Tyson Fury a bit of rest bite.

IF the Usyk vs Fury fight goes off....we are blessed as fight fans. 2 of the best heavyweights of our time are fighting for the undisputed title of HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMP. First time in 25 years. That's a very big deal. I hope both fighters come into the ring at the top of their game. If so, we could be in for a very rare treat. I can't call a winner on this fight other than the fans and the fighters bank accounts.

Regarding the slide.... I think the reason Usyk wasn't moving so well against DD was because the ring was basically flooded. It had been raining all evening and the canvas was soaking wet. For a fighter who likes to dance around a lot and employs a lot of quick directional shifts and pivots, the slippery canvas isn't ideal.
I hope Fury wins, but my belief is Usyk will prevail, very good fighter who is tactically very sound! Think Fury knows deep down this man is the real deal! Will be hell of a fight!
