what's up everyone
Today we will address one common issue with the Yamaha yfz450r. That is the updated clutch basket from 2011+ these 3 rivet basket with the spring loaded Cush drive system have been known to fail causing catastrophic engine damage. Yamaha will not warranty this either I have seen these go in hours in a brand new quad while others last many years. If you're a racer or plan to ride your quad aggresivly and add power mods this is a must do mod. Don't let this happen to you.

I would not ride it till you get it fixed . I couldn't get the basket for my son's during Covid and it grenade . You walk out of the shop at anywhere between $ 3600 to $ 4000 .

It can be hit or miss like this quad had some time on it and now it was starting to go. Probably minutes away from grenading. Its very easy if you have any more questions feel free to ask and i can help.

Does the clutch assembly of the YFZ 450R 2024 fit perfectly on the YFZ 450R 2009? without adaptations?
Everything is interchangeable. Just change the basket, washer and you can re use everything else.
hey i did this upgrade a few days ago step by step and when i starter the quad the clutch was making a loud whirring noise only when in netrual with the clutch out, and also sound loud when i was moving in gear. any idea what it could be?
Hard to say without hearing it. Id double check it all.

Your videos are truly amazing. Good, congrats. I have a 2016 yfz450r, it's happening to me that after riding around with my quad for a bit and I turn off the engine for about ten minutes, after that the clutch lever finds it stuck and it unlocks if I help the fork with my hand. What could be the cause of this, do you think this upgrade can solve the problem. Thank you
Usually when it’s hard to shift it can be because of grooving in the clutch basket. You may want to open up the clutch and inspect it all.

@@ononewheel7 I removed the clutch. Everything ok, but a few days ago I changed the cable because it was broken, but the cable was resting on the muffler. When I turned off the bike the heat caused the sheath and the cable to stick together... Now I passed the cable through the cable gland... All solved.

I have a 2005 yfz not the r and just put a kit on and now time for my clutch work. Will this still work?
This is for the efi clutches only. As far as i know i have never heard any issues with the carbed clutches
When I go to pull the hub out on my 2020 it comes out about half a inch an stops like it’s hitting something
Try rotating it then pulling it out. Also make sure you remove the washer in front of it.

just bought a 2018. already ordered and received new basket, lock washer, and thrust plate. ain't taking no chances with my investment
edit: my best guess is Yamaha changed it to profit more off of parts after selling the bike. planned obsolescence is a bitch, benefits companies while screwing the consumer
Ya i can’t believe it has not been a recall its been a known issue for many years and can even happen with brand new stock machines. Sweet man congrats on your new ride 😎
Do you know which way the jutter spring goes in? I can’t remember
My manual is showing the 2009/2010 basket which has no judder springs but looking at rocky mountain part#16 goes in first then 15 second then the clutch pack they kind of sit against each other acting as a spring hope this helps
@@ononewheel7 yeah one is a spring that has flat side and the other has a flat side and a like a rounded side, I put in new clutch plates and fibers and I have tension when I pull the clutch in but when I put it in gear and let out on the clutch is doesn’t move
i have a 2024 yfz 450r only had it for a week havent put a dent into the break in... rode it only 4-6 hours so far they require 15 hours break in time.... anyway from the day i got it i noticed it wasnt downshifting smoothly like id have to rock it back and forth until i hear a click to move it down each gear when at a complete stop....i was wondering what the problem could be the dealer said it sounded like a bent shift fork but people told me its hard to bend them and theyve been riding for years.... anyway another person told me it could be the clutch plates and another said it sounds like a pressure plate problem i was wondering what your take on this situation would be.....
on a side note the dealer said my machine has a 6 month warranty so its covered through them up til that time but a month before my warranty is up im going to swap it out like you mentioned here but the engine is covered for 3 years minus the clutch go figure.

Thats weird for sure. If it has a warranty id get it to the dealer asap and have them dig into it. It could be something going on with the clutch. I have never really heard of shift fork issues before

at first i thought it just need broke in
@@ononewheel7 my son in law came and took a ride on it he found the problem the clutch wasnt engaging or disengaging right so all he had to do was adjust the clutch lever and its been shifting real good
i forgot what he said was the problem thats why i said engaging or disengaging anyway the problem was fixed

Yup there are a few options vs the stock basket.

Hey so i just did this to my 2018 with all part numbers you provided. I followed your video step by step along with other homework. When idling i can hear a slight sound from clutch area and when clutch lever is pressed sound goes away. Comes back when letting go of lever. Took it all back apart to double check everything. Everything looked good. Is it normal to have slight sound? I cant remember hearing anything before. But then again my dasa full exhaust is loud lol.
Is the clutch working as it should? The only thing that can happen is the basket sometimes will not fully seat on to the shaft but you would have no clutch pull if that were the case. If you looked it over then id imagine its ok usually it only makes sounds when the basket is coming apart.

Question. I just bought my yfz in september and maybe have 40 hours on it with no clutch problems. Is it possible to just swap only the basket? Id like to go the most reliable but cheapest way possible. Any recommendations?
Yup thats the only issue. Swap it out for a 2009/2010 OEM clutch basket and washer.

My clutch on my 19 makes noise when I let it out. Been like that awhile , is that normal ?
Without hearing it it’s hard to say. I’d open it up and pull the whole clutch out and inspect everything. If you can send me a video on facebook/instagram or email.

Idk man I have the rubber bushing clutch and it's noisy AF.
They maybe noisy but won’t ever explode.
